The Witcher 3 probably not 1080P on consoles

You have a history of being very.....enthusiastic about the PS4, to put it nicely.

PS4 is not a weak machine by any means, but its probably not quite the 'beast' of a machine some people think it is, either.

I actually am not, I just roam a lot in PS4 threads because it's my only next gen platform currently, I've been very critical to the game offerings on the console.

I countered hyperbole with hyperbole, I don't exaggerate like that.

What the..

So, what changed between then and now? This is kind of weird.

Kinda like how the platform for Rise of the Tomb Raider changed from its announcement to Gamescom.

I don't freakin' know, but I will be very disappointed if The Witcher 3 doesn't make it to 1080p on PS4. I'm a big fan of full resolution gaming on my plasma.

I get that people want a sole killer app or something, but the game selection is insane for less than a year old.

They utilize Nvidia Gameworks. We know the game will utilize PhysX for at least hair simulation (Hairworks), as well as HBAO+ (this makes a bigger difference than you'd think, seriously), and I think TXAA.

The Hair physics in witcher 2 run on all cards (AMD or otherwise), the physX effects and TXAA are NV only.

Lol, but I manage to run games decenlty even today, all on low and with a lot of framedrops, but I can't buy a new PC.
I'm just saying, that card was absolute 50buck lowend 4 years ago. Can't be surprised when high end game doesn't run well on this. In any case, Witcher 2 is very well optimized for how it looks.

Yeah, it guarantees me buying the game on PC.

I can hear my 2x 680 SLI scream in agony.

You shouldn't have any trouble running the game. Especially at 1080p....now if you're talking at 4k with ubersampling...well yeah, it may melt them.

As I suspected it's your hardware. It puts your previous claim in perspective, The Witcher 2 is actually very well optimized.

I remember trying to run it on my old C2D+ATI 4670 back when it came out, I was really disappointed I couldn't get it to run above 20fps, no matter what settings I selected. I have no idea how that guy endured to play the whole thing, because I certainly couldn't.

No it's not.

My machine has frame dips once I go to 1440p at max settings (minus UberSampling)

Watching the VFX artist talk on the interview on youtube he seemed clueless for a lot of things. Maybe he is not the right guy to answer these kind of questions.

Didn't they make a claim on how they aren't going to take advantage of any console specific hardware features? Seems like they aren't diving as deep into PS4 as they could.

Hmm, I really wanted this on my PS4 due to being weary that my PC may not run it properly, but I may have to risk it. I feel a game like The Witcher 3 and all it's effects and beautiful scenery has to be viewed at the highest possible quality.

It was well optimized, I could play it on high with a... ati 4890 I had that year.
I finished The Witcher 2 the first time on a 9800 GT @ 1920x1200. The framerate was low 20s, but it was still very playable

The game ran really well considering how pretty it looked

People who have a capable PC should be getting it there anyways for mods. Plus there's sure to be a free update for an Enhanced Edition, just as in the past.

Good.

They should push for locked 30 fps rather than 1080p. Honestly I wouldn't even mind 720p as long as it means no framerate issues.

Ok, 200x200, basically a Gameboy :D
In before Witcher 3 Vita announced.

Because I loved the game so much. But even with 800x600 I hade frame drops, during the Kraken fight the game was unplayable, setting a lower resolution granted me to pass the QTE.

I have to say, I admire your dedication. The 5450 is a 4+ year old card that was pretty much bottom of the barrel when it released... at a price point of 50 dollars. If you like W2 as much as you seem to, I highly suggest you replay it on capable hardware at some point in the future -- it'll be like a whole new experience.

I think you should atleast wait after release, if the console versions are struggling I don't think the PC version will br any better. You will need the absolute best of hardware going by their history.

Not really. PC is almost always the best option, especially with a CD Projekt game.

I think once mark corny left Sony ran out of technical fellows to help give code updates to exploit to power of the ps4.

I believe them... I really doubt the consoles can handle that at max resolution.

They can, however it would have to come from a developer specifically making the game for just one platform. Exclusives could probably hit those levels, but multiplats with resources spread out.....yes, not going to happen.

I'm pretty sure Assassins Creed Unity will run at 720p for the ps4 and it looks amazing. Just get used to the possibility that not every game will run at 1080p and you won't be disappointed.

Um you really think Unity looks that good? There is almost no way this will be 720p I could see if it took place in the desert with lots of particles, heat blur effects and shifting sands but nothing about Unity screams demanding. This is of course my opinion but there are games coming out that look much more demanding than unity.

Unity supports 5000 NPCs on screen at once.

I'll happily take 900p on this one, the only time 1080p will be a minimum requirement personally will be when 4k TVs are mainstream.

If it means keeping all those settings ramped up to max no worries.

I highly doubt that more than 90% are more intelligent than this:

Probably but they also have decent cloth physics and quite a few different animations. I'm also rarely impressed hy Ubi's tech teams so I'm expecting that game to either fair poorly in framerate or resolution.

I call bullshit. I have a roughly equivalent system (Gtx770 instead of GTX 680) and if I deactivate Vsync the game runs close to constant 120 fps (which I don't make use of, since sadly so far I have just a 60hz monitor). Never EVER under 60 locked.
EDIT: Wait, on the other hand I don't play it at 1440p, so it's hard to tell.

Well hopefully it's not 720p either. It's easy to forget how many 1080p games so far have been cross gen and ports and forget that we are probably not going to get a stable game at 1080p at the graphical fidelity we expect for multiplatform games.

I'm hoping I can get a stable 30 on my 780. Though, I'd be very surprised if my 780 struggles with it. If it's not stable, I'll get it on whatever console it plays best.
