The Witcher showrunner addresses backlash to Netflix show

The backlash is because:
  • The show sucked after season 1
  • Geralt was barely in his own show, and Henry Cavill playing him was the main draw
  • Yennefer and Ciri relationship is just trash in the show
  • Former writer on the show claimed other writers in the writers' room mocked the source material and the games.
  • The Witcher - Blood Origin they were actually open to take more liberties, and it was even worse
  • Probably also the Nilfgaard ballsack armor

Having a limited amount of screentime each season doesn't mean you shit all over the source material, rewrite characters entirely out of line with their characterization in the books, make up completely new storylines, deliberately raceswap a bunch of characters for DEI points, and drive out the leading actor that's trying his best to keep the show aligned with the original works ... you dumbass.

You're a hack and a failure. Fuck off already.

I hope he has better luck adapting 40K

Typical SJW/woke answer in this situation, they try to deflect, act like the problem is made up, etc.

As if they weren't the ones that caused the agression and acted on hate.

I feel sad for Henry Cavill. Dude was a big fan of the source material and got shoved away by people that cope about the quality of their own work with "well the source material is still there, so whatever".

Makes me wonder. What audience did they choose then? If you can't adapt the book faithfully nor the videogames, then what are you doing?
Why, they are appealing to the MODERN audience! Look how they prosper. Look how many there are. Such a great plan.

People gave the show a shot but the writers really decided that they were better than the sources that prompted the show's funding and built their own, poorer narrative.

People could get by on the limited budget, poor cg dragon, and props.

They can't get by when you change entire characters, key plot arcs, and shrink the role of the title character.

I still don't know how it's still going. Who is watching this? I got sick of them ruining characters and not enough Geralt after season 2.

Quite possibly one of the greatest fumbles in TV history.

You had millions of people in the palm of your hand a number of years back, and you've lost most of them because you decided you knew better than the fans and author of the books by taking creative liberties with the property. So much so that even a superfan like Cavill had had enough.

Authors need to do more to protect their properties when these parasites come knocking, because that's what they are. They take popular existing IPs, strip them of everything that made them great, inject their meaningless ideological drivel into them and turn them to shit.

"No one is taking the books away. No one is taking the video games away. I think everyone can have their version of The Witcher and this is this version."

Yeah, it's probably a good idea to verify if you're still in possession of your Witcher books and video games.

I also think that there have to be changes that you make for adaptation just to make this story keep going forward. Season 1's the perfect example. Obviously we leaned into the two books of short stories, but you can't just tell unrelated adventures in a season of television.
Legitimately we know that Lauren Hissrich hasn't read the Witcher books or played the Witcher games, but has she ever watched television before? Because most television prior to the early 2000s were seasons of unrelated adventures. And it's not like they stopped doing that entirely. Black Mirror is entirely unrelated stories and it's extremely popular.

They scammed poor Henry and a ton of other people who love the original material.

And I wonder if the show would even pick up and gain the initial popularity if they clearly stated from the beginning that they're doing their own version of The Witcher.

Wasn't it Sapkowski himself that said that the problem with TV or movie adaptations is that everyone tries to "make it their own". Nobody is ever satisfied with bringing the source material to a different medium exactly as it was, there is always hubris of making changes.

Jesus F. Christ she is so fucking dumb and talentless.

FANS OF THE BOOKS AND GAMES WERE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE SHOW THE MOST

And you fucked it up!

A good answer.

It's really not. She's straw manning all of the criticism of the show by the fans of the games and books (including Henry Cavil who stepped away for the same reasons).

The arguments have never been about the show leaving out material from the books. The criticisms have all been about casting decisions and changes to the content of the books that are ostensibly designed to push an agenda.

No-body ever had an issue with creative license. Game of Thrones was at its peak the biggest most popular show on TV while taking creative liberties to adapt the course material. The difference is that the GoT show respected the source material, while the Netflix Witcher show shits on the source material.

But you see - the fans are taken for granted, whereas you need to change things to attract new viewers.

The show sucked after season 1
since the very first episode in my opinion, stopped watching during episode 3 if i recall

don't understand the appeal, whether you know The Witcher or not, i'm not the biggest fan of Game of Thrones but it feels insulting for GoT to be compared to that

If only they use that line for the producers when they pitch their vision for the show. "You guys know how popular the Dragon Ball Z Anime and Manga were? Well how about you hire me to write/direct the Dragonball Evolution of the Witcherverse."

Always the same rethoric when they ruin a franchine... 'yesss but this is just our take on it and maybe it just isn't for you'.

A good answer.

A good answer if they didnt butcher the original story. Witcher games also changed some things, but for the better. The show changed things only for the worse and it kept getting worse as Henry could no longer tell them to fucking stop being retarded.

There were those rumors the talks weren't going so well, but they seem to have come around.

There was a leak of requirements Amazon makes for their shows, equal number of women.

Game Workshop won't let us do female Space Marines, but we do have these bad ass Sisters of Battle.

Woman must have an equal number of lines... The Sisters of Battle took a vow of silence.

Are those requirements for real? If so, damn that's fucking dumb even for Amazon.
