The Witcher showrunner addresses backlash to Netflix show

It's really not. She's straw manning all of the criticism of the show by the fans of the games and books (including Henry Cavil who stepped away for the same reasons).

The arguments have never been about the show leaving out material from the books. The criticisms have all been about casting decisions and changes to the content of the books that are ostensibly designed to push an agenda.

No-body ever had an issue with creative license. Game of Thrones was at its peak the biggest most popular show on TV while taking creative liberties to adapt the course material. The difference is that the GoT show respected the source material, while the Netflix Witcher show shits on the source material.
Got gradually went into the absolute shitter after season 4 when they didn't had any more books to follow.

Respected the source material my ass, they ruined most of the characters.

I stopped after season 1. As someone who loves the books and games season 1 was already pretty bad. I didn't think it could get much worse but apparently I was wrong. Thinking we could have gotten a Fantasy show with the quality of GoT if they actually hired a talented director and sticked to the source material make me sad. The good thing is I barely remember anything about the show so I can just pretend it never existed.
I thought season 1 was passable, assuming they fixed the issues. Season 2 killed my interest.

Looks like the end is nigh. Best case scenario is HBO pick up the rights and ask Cavill to come back for a fresh start. Not gonna happen though.

Based Henry Cavill. Look up interviews he did with the cast and Lauren (creator of the show) and Henry is the only one who knows what he´s talking about. He played the games. He read the novels. The others just sit there completely clueless and knows jack shit about their own show they are participating in. They are even side eyeing him, probably of jealousy because he is so knowledgeable of the world of Witcher.
It's so bizarre. If I were cast in a show I would read as much material as I could to understand the character and the world.

And it's not jealousy, it's entitlement. They're wondering why he even bothered when they're phoning it in as talentless hacks, acting like modern day people in a medieval fantasy setting.

I enjoyed the show, after 1st ep didn't even mind the cast change. Wish they would have reworked the Rats movie thing so it came out before the show, didn't give a shit about them but kinda liked them after the movie.

Never read the book and only play Witcher 2 and 3 so not married to that version of the universe so something loosely based in the same world is fine to me.

That's exactly where I stopped too and didn't bother with the animated version.
From S1 to S2, there seemed to be a big tonal shift to the show.

Almost like they saw the relative success of S1 and instead of giving us more of the Witcher, we got more of Ciri and Yennifer totally misreading the audience. As someone else here posted, it has only gone down since S1.

It's actually a well used trick across these adaptations that are co-opted by activist writers who think they can do better. They spend the first episode or season paying attention to the lore and doing some fan service, before they usher in the actual show they wanted to make in season 2.

That's not annoying. It's called passion for the material

I saw one episode. The new guy don't fit. Can't look grumpy in a believable way. Reminded me of the last Super-Man movie.

You know, I think most felt something was off from the get-go, but I tried to be open-minded, and it wasn't really a complete shit.

I agree, from S2 it started to have crap sprinkled throughout. But even so, I again tried to be positive about it.
And then S3 writing and also knowing Cavill is leaving turned the show into a crap sandwich.

I watched this season on someone else's account, I wasn't gonna be an imbecile again, I think 3 times is enough.
I'm going to do the same for the final season, curious how they're going to end this shitshow, but it's a damn shame it turned out like this.

Yeah, it's probably a good idea to verify if you're still in possession of your Witcher books and video games.
What these people normally do is:
- Rewrite the books to bend the story to their current thing, publish the new version in print, act like this is a sane/normal thing to do
- They could also patch some material they consider *ist out of some games, if given the chance
Here is an example, this is certainly not the only one: Rockstar cuts transphobic content from Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online
Amazon just changed the James Bond posters for all the movies.

So yes, hold on to your physical media.

I don't disagree and you're buttressing my point.

Up until Season 4, they stayed close to the source material and respected it; hence the success. Then when there was no more source material left and the hack TV show writers had to go it alone leaning on only their own creative talents they proved that they had no idea how to continue the story in a satisfying way.

Hence TV writers today are mostly <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< successful authors.

As a huge universe fan I kinda liked S1 but stopped watching this "show" after the disaster which was S2.
Nothing I've seen anywhere on S3 has changed my mind about that. And S4 is just insult onto injury.

It's amazing to me that Netflix got Henry Cavill to do one of their shows and instead of embracing that and running with it. They allow themselves to lose him in order to keep some showrunner who doesn't know WTF they are doing. I wish I could be there to see who gets fired for this massive mistake and mishandling of this show. They had a chance to really build something here and they just threw it all away.
Yep, all cause some nepo baby cunt decided she knew what the fans needed more than what the books did. I hate that bitch so much.
