It was banned for sexual violence!

The offending bits can be found in the following videos on YouTube (NSFW?)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgGXEGLkDGc

It insinuate that the girl might get rape, so this is a big no no! I guess Japanese reviewer found it was ok according to them (just watch anime or read manga that aim toward teens and you will see a lot of thing that wont be accepted in western culture), but the people at MS probably didnt like it or someone report it (probably none japanese).

I told James he probably deserves an award for longest vocal performance in a video game. Definitely worth trying for the music ;)

I love the I maed a gam3 w1th z0mb1es!!!1 press release:

Ska Studios LLC today announced a truly epic title in the true tradition of epicness with its latest video game entertainment product release, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1, set for release August 16, 2009 on the Xbox Live Indie Games for 80 Microsoft Points.

Presenting a familiarly themed, engrossing and stylized “game universe,” then adding zombies to that world, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!1 aims to completely revolutionize the videogames industry, destroy it in fire a thousand times, and resurrect it as a phoenix sitting on a unicorn atop a shiny city of golden gumdrops. As we say at Ska Studios LLC, “our games will pique your interest and defenestrate your cats.”

I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!1 represents a culmination of years of intensive psychological research, bleeding edge engineering, and artistic collaboration by over two dozen internationally recognized art houses that may or may not exist, using such technologies as the HYPERMAGIC 3.0 engine to power never-before-seen eye candy and the MEGACORE X parallelization processor for smooth-as-glass presentation.

“You can make a game,” said Ska Studios Lead Engineer Gato Maria Hernando Rodriguez-Rodriguez in an exclusive interview with Chairman Meow Magazine, “but what happens when you put zombies in it? Nobody knows, but they’ll find out soon. We’ll all find out soon.” And, with Xbox Live Indie Games interest flagging under reports of poor sales, difficulty locating the section in the Dashboard while inebriated, and super-smart people saying super-smart things on web forums, the game couldn’t be released at a better time.

“We were following trends and noticed that most people were buying Xbox360s for the DVD player, the Xbox Live Vision Camera, and the Calculator app on XBLIG, but not for games,” Gato continues, “I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MBIES!!1 will change that. You’ll be playing our game. It has zombies in it. Ok bye.”

I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1 will arrive on Xbox Live Indie Games on August 16, 2009. It will cost 80 Microsoft Points.

Just signed up for XNA yesterday and was going along with the XNA Game Creator's Guide 2nd Ed. book but its pretty bad because they don't explain the Xbox 360 file system stuff at all, in fact, the exercises in the 2nd Chapter walk you through saving a log file in windows and then tell you that you can just cut and paste the code into a 360 project. That turned out to be absolute bollocks.

I also found it interesting that with the latest version of XNA, if you only have one storage device, it shouldn't prompt you for one. I guess a lot of games (like Monkey Island Special Edition) are using an older version of XNA/XDK because they do prompt you even if you only have one storage device.

Made my first 'app' which was saving and loading a file on the 360 and then being able to pan/scale the text using the gamepad.

Hopefully the rest of this book isn't that bad when it comes to getting things going on the 360. I can't wait to start working on an actual game once I'm done with the book.
Tell me about it. The entire internet seems to treat save/load as trivial, but I had to do some modifications for thread-safety to make sure certain things weren't happening out of order. Ugh. Be sure to use the platform-specific compiler tags (#if (XBOX360) and so on)

Mirror's Edge also prompts if you only have one storage device. Lameeeee. = D

If you have any questions, let me know! I've been doing this stuff for over a year now. (Actually, shit, that's really sad. I need to hurry the fuck up and release my game already.)

Is anyone here interested in an attempt to make an arcade racer for xna? I can only do graphics and 3D but it would be nice to see a good arcade racing game on the service among all the other crap ( apart from a few great games of course :) )

Something like 1 car, 1 track and awesome gameplay.

Driving games are really easy to make. All you need is some graphics to reskin the driving demo that apparently comes as part of the toolset... and you're done!

Woohoo! My first game, BitStream, is now up! \o/

Think of it as Dotstream, with added funk. Adaptive synesthesia-based music system, local multiplayer for up to 8 people, music creation mode, and online leaderboards.

GAF opinions much appreciated :)

Really slimy, IMO. To not even credit skip for such a blatant rip, if dotstream had come out over here, I'd definitely think there could be a copyright case here, since you didn't just rip the mechanic, but the entire aesthetic. Regardless of whether it's legal or not, to not even mention the game that you cloned in the credits and claim credit for "concept" is pretty much the height of sleazeball behavior.

It's only a dollar!! :D Funny as hell! James Silva is genius! :D

I randomly downloaded it and now I'm sorely missing the "Mass recommend game to friends list" button. It's the best dollar I've spent in ages. When my demo time ran out I fuckin pressed the buttons and got right back to blasting random shit.

A complete relief after trying the demos for Trials and Battlefield and Monkey Island and being thoroughly disappointed.

What's this? Not seen this dotstream game.

Flower Post Mortem At GDC Europe Reveals XNA Used In Development

At GDC Europe thatgamecompany (TGC) president Kellee Santiago broke down the prototype process they went through in creating their PSN game Flower. She started by describing how the game embodies their company's goal of exploring more complex feeling and resolutions rather than the primal responses most games trigger.

To accomplish that, Flower started with the simple concept of a safe and peaceful experience, one that would motivate people to project their positive feelings onto the game. In practical terms they decided to create a sanctuary that the player could reach through their PS3, and that sanctuary took the form of a flower garden.

Once they had that part down, they moved directly to a prototyping process. At first this entailed little more than a rough representation of the garden and its flowers, along with the idea that you could blow the petals around and see where they land. As the design process continued through several prototypes, some separation formed between the design and programming teams.

On the one hand, the programming team worked in the PS3 development environment. This afforded them a good look into the practicalities of what could be done on the hardware and how the interface would work. The design team, though, worked primarily in Microsoft's XNA. Santiago called it a great tool for prototyping 3D games and offered that the logic behind the programming still translated helpfully over to writing for the PS3.

Bits and pieces from each of the ten prototypes shown in Santiago's presentation can be seen in the final version of Flower. She said this rapid process of iteration worked so well that they've stepped their playtests up to a weekly schedule for their current project. From how well it worked the first time, who can blame her?

Thought this was interesting. Didn't want a new thread, thought it might be more useful here.

I rather agree, I think a "recommend to friends" button would be nice - then a tab somewhere that says "Friends recommend these games". Friends could choose an option in a game menu to recommend and then select which (or all) friends.

Would be neat and helpful.

You wouldn't even need to actively recommend them for that. It could just show you games rated 5 stars by people on your friends list.

Nearly every XNA/Flash/iPhone game is a shameless ripoff of something. Companies like Popcap have become successful on the back of liberal "borrowing." Hell, most of gaming's mainstays basically started out with Space Invaders and Pac-Man romhacks. Ten years ago everyone had a Pokemon clone and now everyone's readying their Monster Hunter clones.

It's just the nature of the industry. His goal was probably just to put a cool game on a system that wouldn't otherwise receive it, not make a bunch of money on others' ideas (and if it wasn't, he's in for a rude awakening when he learns what kind of sales XNA games generate). There doesn't seem to be any malicious intent behind it, which is more than can be said for most of the examples above.

I wish I knew what it was saying in the text... or what the menu options meant, but I just played this and it's kinda fun in an old skool platformer way. Pretty too.

I actually think I might buy it. :D

The "Jump" game is pretty damn good for a dollar.

Just a warning, though...you can beat the entire game in trial mode pretty easily. It's only like four stages long. And you can use the continue and save features to bypass the time lockout as well.

I ended up chipping the dollar at the developer mostly out of respect for the effort.

From what I can figure, the menu is basically just:

Continue
New Game
Tutorial
Movie (plays the cutscenes in order uninterupted) *Unlocks after finishing the game*

Wacky Karts is hilariously inept. The price:quality ratio is the worst on the service by quite some margin, I'd say.

Ninja Train is quite fun, though very short. High score runs seem like they'll be fun, though!

:lol You obviously haven't played many Indie Games.

The game is by no means brilliant, but with some improvements it could be a competent Mario Kart clone. The core driving isn't bad, it's just not very well balanced and could use something to make it stand out. Online play or a course designer would go a long way.

My 360 RRoD'd last weekend (groan!) just as I was sitting down to play Megalopolis, which seems like it'd be right up my alleyway. Can anyone give me impressions to feed the flames of my hype?

I played that yesterday, and if I'm honest, it confused me... even after playing the tutorial. I started on one of the free levels and even though I had built houses there seemed to be slums appearing all over the place.

I was a little freaked out by the fact that there can be houses / slums in water too. :lol

It seems like a good game (which is why I didn't delete it), but I think I need more time with it.

I got sent the full version of Megalopolis for review but haven't spent much time with it yet. There seems to be a good amount of depth, though it takes a little while to get used to the systems.

I'll play it some more over the weekend so I'll post better impressions then.

I thought that was a great little game. Unfortunately it's let down a bit by its presentation which makes me think a lot of people will overlook it.

Yeah, it's too bad they couldn't make it look better. It did feel like I was playing a brand new NES game. With that mindset it kinda worked.

Gotta say, I think I'd have rather seen a pretty simple Crimsonlands-type clone than what the final product of "I MAED A GAM3" turned out as. I think it's better as something to watch/listen to on YouTube than it is as a game. I guess it's just a buck, but I was underwhelmed. Played it once on trial and figured I'd played enough that I didn't think I'd ever go back.

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the game is a lawsuit waiting to happen. If it doesn't already, it needs an epilepsy warning, because it wouldn't at all surprise me if it was seizure-inducing.

Stupid question time: do you need Xbox Live Gold to buy indie games or play the trial versions?

nope, you don't need to be gold to buy or get a demo/trial of a game (xbla, indie, game on demand, pre-release demo, etc..), it's been alway available to every member

A tower defense game where you have to set down game developers to eradicate game bugs :lol

That looks pretty fun, wonder if the its easy enough to play despite the language?

Zombies is utter shit.

Edit: oops.. thought you were talking about that new Zombies game that is up, not IMAGWZ. That's great and I bought it.
