The Zelda TP pre-launch NON-SPOILER thread (READ BEFORE YOU POSTTTT)

For about half a second I thou ght that was a Zelda screenshot causing my blood pressure to rise to dangerous levels and the death of one innocent kitten!

DO YOU WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATH OF A KITTEN??? I THINK NOT!

Then I woke up.

That's Zelda on the Wii-2.

Hmm... well, I just got back from the Canadian pre-Wii launch event at Ontario Place and I have some impressions that are non-spoilerific.

Of the 15 minutes I've played of Zelda, I will have to agree with Amirox so far on the superior GC controls.

Playing Zelda with the Wii-mote was just too unintuitive. I kept messing up my commands and couldn't get a hang of the sword fighting in the 15 minutes of play.

Of course, this was also the first time I've handled a Wii-mote so that has a lot to factor into it as well. Also the controls aren't the type that you want to give up on in frustration... Instead, it feels like the type where I would want to improve my control in. I can't wait until I get my hands on my own copy so that I can master playing with the Wii controller.

On another note... there were over 200 people lined up for this event... And I thought it would be small. It was a mix of mostly male teens and young adults with a few hints of girls and elderly.

The females faired pretty well in Zelda and Wii sports. However, the guys did as well.

Also before the official opening of 1:30 PM (and even before 11am), a bunch of press and media were allowed to go in first (one was Global News).

It seems very apparent now that Nintendo is actually putting that $200 million in use by forcing the media to try a hands-on experience of the Wii.

P.S. Everyone who attended received a free DVD filled with Wii advertisements and game trailers. Ironically enough, the DVD is labelled not for use in Wii console... How unfortunate.

That's where I stopped reading.

EDIT: Ironically, I continued reading after posting that initial reaction, and saw how you addressed yourself my observation. My excuses and kudos for that. :lol

My virgin eyes... must keep them pure! I've done amazingly well so far with fighting off the temptation to know WTF is going on in the spoiler thread. Just a few more days....

Same here.

When TWW came out, I had the last battle (but not the ending itself) spoiled for me months ahead of time. When OoT came out, I had the Sheik=Zelda thing revealed AS I WAS PLAYING THE GAME, but before I got to that point in that game (even though I had my suspicions).

Thank god Yoshi's Island DS is here to save me from this. My only fear now is that some asshat will ruin the twists and turns sometime next week, and that I'll be forced to kill again.

Aw, I gave in and watched the cutscene. While it's the BEST ZELDA CUTSCENE EVER, and doesn't really contain HUGE spoilers, I kinda regret watching it.

That's how it starts. You see one screenshot. You watch one video. You read the ending. You cry :lol

Heh, I was so pissed when WW came out. I imported it day one when released in Japan and right when I get it I found out that Tetra was Zelda. So now I'm playing bubble boy and ain't trying to spoil shit.(basically no videogame thread besides GAF I trust now. And I aint giong back to that ****ing spoiler thread)

I do know a good amount up to the first dungeon but that's enough for me. I want to be surprised this time.

ps. Also, say if there were pictures of lets say, a super super well known boss in Zelda, from TP, don't you think that would be a spoiler to look at them?

I mean Nintendo hasn't allowed people to see it themselves and he is usually one of the last bosses.

My friends say "if" there was a picture of "this boss" it wouldn't be considered a spoiler at all since they know what he looks like. But then I just say "Then why did you look at the picture?"

Also, I'd like to thank sp0rsk and all the other mods for keeping all this shit clean for all of us that really want to have a "pure" Zelda experience. It's really nice knowing I can still post without having the ending ruined in the title of a thread.

I must have been a really stupid kid in 1998 because I absolutely did not see this coming at all. Looking back, it's so blatantly obvious, I feel sorry for my '98 self. (Almost as much as falling for "Your dog is on a farm now, where he can run around all day long")

It's very early but honestly it's the best cutscene I've seen in a Zelda game, by far and wide.

*sobs quietly*

I was more or less pure for Wind Waker and pretty happy about it. Seeing Ganondorf in that game for the first time was quite the experience.

Also, going down beneath the ocean was the biggest OMG moment I've had in gaming. Too bad the area couldn't have been bigger. I remember praying that there would at least be some sort of mini-overworld down there to explore.

I'm really glad I'm staying spoiler-free for Twilight Princess. I really can't wait to see where the story goes and what new items and areas await.

Yes, those pictures would be spoilers, because from what I heard (haven't seen them myself), Nintendo told the site to take them down.

And, really, spoilers vary from person to person. Me, I went on my embargo after the two videos posted several weeks ago. Seeing the intro was enough of a spoiler.

It's funny that you should mention it. Usually everyone says "Oh I already knew that Shiek was Princess Zelda". Im not sure if that's just a denial on their part but after the girlish scream in Kakariko village when Shiek went flying, that's when I knew.

I dont remember any big TWW spoilers, but I do know some people linking pictures of the game(including official art where clearly showed Ganon), I just didnt stick around to see for myself.

For Nintendo's part looking back at the two games now, they didnt do too well hiding who Princess Zelda was in either game.

If you stayed away from forums, your problems would be solved. Every single aspect and event in both OoT and WW were completely new to me the second I witnessed them. Especially the Tetra thing- would have really lessened the impact if I knew. Truth be told, I followed the industry alot less back then.

As long as we are telling sob stories about having Zelda stuff spoiled, I have a terrible one. When I was picking something else up (I can't remember what) from Gamestop, the clerk noticed I was buying something for the Gamecube and asked if I had been playing Wind Waker. When I said yes the first thing out of his mouth was "how awesome is it that Hyrule was under water." Before I could even open my mouth to say I wasn't there yet, he then was like "AND HOW ABOUT THAT SWORD RIGHT IN GANON'S HEAD."

His body now lies six feet under a mall parking lot.

I managed to stay relatively spoiler free, although I couldn't resist visiting the spoiler thread on some occasions. I avoid it completely now, since I've read something there that I really wish I didn't read :(

Seriously, I've had way too many games spoiled by me through GAF - most recent being Shadow of the Colossus.
Poor Agro.
At the same time, though, I managed to go in not knowing hardly anything of FFXII.

That said, I'm steering clear of GAF unless they keep this thread or equivalent of open. I really want to be totally new to this game.

One last thought I've had recently: Ocarina of Time was a revolution for me. It was so fresh and fantastically immersive. I'd never played anything like it before (nor have I played anything that's given me that same enjoyment since). Just today I figured out why I wanted a new TV for Zelda: I want that same fresh experience. I think, if the controls are that much of a change, are that much more welcome a dynamic, then it should help provide as fresh and exciting a first go as Ocarina of Time did.

That said, I'm still going to buy and play the Gamecube game with the traditional controller, for old time's sake. And also because I'll be on such a high that the need to play it again will be that strong.

If the Gamecube controls are, like most game journalists have now said, inferior to the Wii controls, then I'm not so sure that second time through is going to be as fun.

I thought Aryll was Zelda, because she was kidnapped. Tetra was too much of a character to be Zelda.

That was a possiblity but after seeing how big of a role Tetra(Zelda) played in the game, that really eliminated Aryll from that. It became obvious after the 2nd Forbidden Fortress raid and the scene with Ganon that Aryll wasnt Princess Zelda. Especially the emphasis on Tetra's pendant.

I had all of these possiblities running through my brain on Friday. Even obssessing over released pictures to see what I could make out of it. But somewhere along the line, I just had a mental wash. That's the point where you cease to think and just want to play the game.

You should have said "HOW ABOUT THIS DISC THROUGH YOUR HEAD???"

The spoiler level on FF12 has been surprisingly low. I could only imagine what would have happened if FF7 was released today. "_____ dies!"

Many stores have gotten their copies, so a few people already have theirs (Just not a Wii to play it on.)

If anyone here gets one, take some pics of the instruction manual. :D

What do you guys think about turning this into the official zelda non spoiler post launch thread? For people who are playing the game and still want to talk about it in a spoiler free zone?

That would be great, certainly for us europeans who want to ask how mindnumbingly awesome the game really is to people playing

Wooh. I say "Edit that shit". Damn, how many times have I came so close

Man. I was expecting scans so I could have made the contents page into a wallpaper or something.

Any chance of EB/Gamestops breaking the street date on the Wii, like they are with Zelda?
