There are currently no concrete plans for FFXV for Nintendo Switch.

It looks like they are trying, but it may just be way too much work, or even impossible, to port it. Unfortunate, but hopefully things turn out well.

I liked FFXV, but I don't need to play it again.

Switch owners dodged a bullet here.

I don't know man, with so many people wanting Switch versions of everything I'd expect people to want this in some capacity. The mobile version could work, and would be in line with Switch mode of play.

I never thought I would want FFXV to be honest, then they dropped the PC mod bomb on us and I'm slightly interested again. People that like the Switch for mobile gaming would most likely want FFXV even if they weren't that interested in the game I believe, that's the thing that drive people's interest in games on Switch from what I've observed anyway.

Certainly didn't make it appear that way. I think time is better spent on original SE content specifically for Switch (Octopath) and maybe 14 if we're lucky.

But let's be real, some classic FF ports would be great also!

They keep flip flopping on it, but honestly it's probably best just to move on to the rest of their catalog and try to get those on Switch on, or near, release.

14 would be amazing, portable mmo

I really don't think FFXV is a good fit for the system to be honest. I'd rather Square focus on future ports and exclusives, with the Switch in mind from square 1.

I never said they were.

Just looking at it from a technical standpoint, FF15 would be even worse performance wise on the Switch.

Sure.

Why do you keep saying this? Are you ruling out games ever releasing just because they haven't been announced yet or do you actually know something? Seems so strange that you're hammering down on everyone saying "game X is probably easier to bring than FFXV."

Being realistic. Nomura already pretty much ruled out KH3 for one, FFVIIR isn't coming out any time soon and will probably end up a PS5 game. FFXII came out after the Switch.

Q: Will a PC version be released?

A: If we had plans for a PC release, then we’d want to release it as closely as possible to the console versions. However, since we didn’t have any plans for it, there won’t be one releasing closely to the PC version. When we develop and research in the DirectX 11 generation, all the work goes into the console version. After release, we plan to do some research on a PC version while considering higher specs.
The next logical step for the Luminous Engine would seem to be 4K systems such as Microsoft's Scorpio and personal computers — though Tabata says the team has no firm plans in place for either at the moment, despite the growing fan demand for 15 on PC. "I don't have anything to announce about a PC version of the game," he says cautiously, "but we have been experimenting with different ideas for new applications of tech. If we find something we like, well, maybe we'll have news to announce."

At one point there were no plans for a PC version.

Didn't they do this sorta backpedaling with DQXI?

I mean I don't believe them, but I don't really care as I already own FFXV.

They even did the same back pedaling with FFXV on PC:

I don't want to say it's a lock for the Switch by any means, but using this as evidence that they are not even looking at Switch anymore is wrong as well imo.

Technologically, it was never really possible.

I don't necessarily think it means it's not coming, because even the original quote sounded like they were still in the process of considering it. Maybe they wouldn't have even talked about it unless it wasn't coming, since the questions wouldn't stop, but it did sound like the were still in the process.

That being said, I never got the sense they were saying it was confirmed, far from it, but the work they were doing wasn't the normal lengths a developer goes to when simply thinking of a potential port imo, so I've always thought that, regardless of whether FFXV comes to the Switch, it is a good sign for future of the console.

I mean, all along they've basically been saying "We're trying to see if we can figure out a way to make it work." Just because they're trying/testing doesn't necessarily mean that it's going to happen, just that they're looking into it.

"You want more games from us? Then buy our already released Switch games, like Dragon Quest Heroes 1&2. Oh, you didn't get DQ Heroes in west? Then... well... yeah..."

At least we're getting Lost Sphear. Could have been worse.

Not sure what to believe anymore. In any case I already traded in my PS4 copy and will only buy again if it comes to Switch.

He keeps saying it because he's almost certainly right. I'd give KH3 a slim chance of happening but I'd put money on FF7R never seeing the Switch.

In part because by the time FF7R is out Nintendo will have put out the Switch's successor.

We're just starting to see reality slip through for what is possible On Switch. If you can half the frame rate and downgrade the resolution, then on a well optimised engine you can. Otherwise the chances are much much slimmer.

I mean, the technical gurdles would be vast, the port would be take a lot of time a resources and it would come out looking like shit and probably still have performance problems.

It's okay, guys. Just play on another platform.

I think most people who really wanted to play FF15 already found a way. A lot of people excited for a Switch version are double-dippers.

Don't forget to lower textures and reduce post-processing effects.

FFXII came out 4 months after the Switch launched. It not having a Switch version doesn't rule out a Switch release entirely.

Most of us have been saying this for months though. A lot of Nintendo fans just got carried away thinking that development tools completely make up for major hardware deficits.

only scenario i see it happening is if they outsource it. and that's assuming they find a technical solution

tabata & co are probably about ready to move on

FFX & FFXII HD would be good fits, as would the new digital versions of FFVII & IX.

Definitely would like to see them all there.

It's been implied before that Sony holds some degree of perpetual console exclusivity over the PS1 and PS2 games, bar XI. Which is possibly why we also haven't seen any ports or remasters to Xbox.

Why do I feel like we get a topic about this every week. "We have no plans." "We are testing things out." "We have no plans." "We are doing testing." How many times will this man get asked this question and how many times will he reiterate?

There should be no doubt that SOMETHING FFXV is coming to the NS. They started this whole thing with their Twitch segment and have been backtracking since then. He probably opened his mouth when he shouldn't have and was told to lay off of it. Best thing to do now is to flat out deny it.

Thing is, no one would have even thought it was coming to the NS if he wouldn't have said something in the first place. I take this as just another way to quiet the discussion until they're ready to announce whatever they're going to announce.

That makes sense buy why not just come out and say it?

The moment he stops saying "we are looking into it" and "no plans" one after the other.

FFXV may not be coming but it's pretty obvious they're looking into what is going to work best for their company moving forward with Switch being successful and Luminous engine being what it is. I wouldn't doubt that they have some sort of FFXV running on Switch hardware to at least test performance and cut their teeth, even if they don't wind up releasing the game on it.
