TheSameCoin Rumor: DriveClub delayed till 2014

Thats insane, buying any console for one launch title is just plain nuts.
I was considering preordering a PS4, but not *just* because of Driveclub. Sure, it was a large part of the justification, but without it the other things I was getting it for can wait.

Say DC was, um, maybe 50%, and the other stuff (Pinball Arcade, that shmup, maybe another title or two) was 50% as well. I could still get one and be mostly happy with it if there was no DC at launch, but I'd be better off waiting and getting the thing a few months down the road when the price inevitably drops $100 (or an equivalent value pack-in is included).

I'm not sure about FM5 though. The game is barely any different from it's predecessor (other than graphics and maybe slightly improved handling), there's fuck-all media been released about it and there honestly aren't that many other games that could factor in a solid justification for buying a One. I honestly don't get it.

I did just that for the Gamecube and Rogue Leader. I also did that for the Wii and Wii Sports. Sure... there were other titles out there in their respective launch libraries, but none that interested me at that time.

I don't really regret the Gamecube purchase, as Rogue Leader did blow my mind back then. The Death Star Trench Run, to me, never got old. I don't regret the Wii purchase, either. Bowling in Wii Sports kept my attention for weeks. I literally didn't need another game for a month.

That said, it's really a personal preference kind of situation. To some, one title might be enough. To others, there needs to be more bang for the buck when considering parting with $400+. I understand both sides of the discussion.

From my gamer point of view, I don't really mind... if I get a better game in a few months + some other freebie in the meantime, that's fine by me. There's a lot of stuff to be played between now and Xmas.

But I would feel sorry for Evo. It would only increase the pressure on them to deliver a successful title for Sony. And if it didn't become that success, after a delay from launch...I don't know, it seems very all or nothing to me for Evo. After the reception of the last Motorstorm I think they need a successful title and this is just racheting up the pressure. As a launch title it was at least guaranteed a certain extra cachet/interest.

As much as it adds pressure to them, I'm sure they also appreciate the added development time. It must be like a breath of fresh air after a probably very stressful period. I only hope it won't ruin their holidays this winter (many of them probably hoped to have some rest in December)

People really want Driveclub to be released no matter what?
There's a reason for the delay. I would cry if they let loose a sub par racer on the public due to pressure..

I guess the fallout is that it was so close to release and there hadn't been any rumours whatsoever of development issues.

Should just release it at sub 720p, sub 30fps and then get these DLCs on the road:

60fps stable DLC - $9.99
5 additional cars DLC - $4,99
1080p DLC (might add framedrop so it is recommended to buy the 60fps stable DLC with this) - $9.99
60fps stable DLC + 1080p DLC combo - $16.99

I don't think you can expect a $100 price drop a few months down the line. Unless MS does something knee-jerk and sony has to respond.

Geez the moment a company does anything even close to releasing a performance upgrade as dlc will be my worst gaming enemy... Idc who it is , seriously.

(Option 4 is a good deal)

next gen DLC and SeasonPass confirmed :)

You should expect a job offer from EA soon

I don't want it no matter what. I do wonder if pressure will affect the decisions involved though.

I buy a console for the games over a consoles life and not just it's launch titles. PS4 day one for me. Still got battlefield and Cod available for launch so still good. Driveclub delay is disappointing but I'm sure they'll replace it with something else on PS+. Probably wasn't going to buy the full game anyway.

Same. Only reason I would ever have played DC in the first place was because it was a launch title and was on PS+. I can say with all certainty that I wont even look at it when it is finally released.

Just to say: I'd rather them release DriveClub when it's ready than get it rushed to meet the PS4 launch date.

Sim City is a good example what happens when you release a half-baked game.

all good and valid reasons, but I think we will spiral down to what I wrote above..

thread title is not "why you buy consoles", its about whether driveclub will be out day1 or not.

somebody might say that he's got the fps's locked on pc, where they will play better, someone else might say "I really dont care for mainstream shooters at all" etc etc.
again these are valid reasons, just like your reasons are valid.

so lets try top stay on topic here and not judge people that seem disappointed by this rumor.....

I don't see this as a blow to their launch line up. Killzone and Knack will both see an uptick in sales. I think Killzone has a chance of having the highest attach rate out of any game launching on either the PS4 or One. They could also stack their releases by having Infamous in February and releasing Drive Club maybe in April with The Order following several months after that.

Losing one of three first party games at launch isn't a blow to their line up? That's just ridiculous

Hardware launches are always carried by third party software. This has been the case forever. Neither Sony nor Microsoft have their major studios working on a first party launch title for either console. Guerilla would be arguable, but outside of that no.

The price point is solid in retrospect of the market so I can't see a price drop inside the next 2 years.

Killzone and Knack

Oh my god, Krazy Ken is still there somewhere !
yeah sorry, it's silly... I just never noticed the alliteration before now.

They did have Studio Liverpool working on one though... I remember some guy saying they'd been the only team confident of hitting the deadline.

My point is if you pre-ordered one, I find it strange if you are cancelling over Drive Club. Sony most likely will find another replacement for ps plus game.

We don't know how long games are going to be on PS Plus for the PS4. But you potentially missing out on Resogun and a few other games for free. Granted games will drop in price. But next gen games tend to hold their prices for atleast a year before dropping.

But like I said, very strange people are cancelling over a glorified demo.

Well i'll be disappointed if true, was really looking forward to grabbing at launch. But if it means a better experience later down the line then add me to the "i can wait" category. KZSF and Resogun and i guess one of the 3rd party title will suffice until Infamous in Feb.

It was pretty obvious to anyone following the game. I was expecting and hoping for a delay.

How so? It seemed like it was shaping up nicely with the latest videos; great looking, much cleaner, and ran smoothly from what I could tell. I guess the lack of head-to-head racing is the only clue to this mess

How was he judging? He simply said why it doesn't affect his preorder, he made no comment attacking other peoples' decisions.

Well.. Sucks for people looking forward to it but if its replaced with Knack that's good for me since I was looking forward to Knack more than DC since DC videos didn't instill much confidence in me.

Seems entirely possible.

Well, Japan are getting it bundled with every launch PS4, so looks extremely likely to me, however they could delay the PS Plus version too and maybe give us another PSN style game for 'free' instead.

Not overly happy about this news and am seriously thinking of waiting until next spring/ summer and complete the current gen titles in the meantime.

Oh God this is going to sound like total fanboy spin but it could work in Sonys favour.

PS4 is going to sell out regardless if DriveClub is there at launch or not, if it gets delayed it means they have another game 3-4 months down the line to fill in what is usually a barren spell.

At least is an interesting situation; japanese console exclusives AAA first line is only one first person shooter (not historically a console genre) and a platformer (knack) while an american console (usual shooter platform) AAA first line has every other genre but shooters (arcade racing in forza, beat'em up in ryse, fighting game in killer instinct, shoot'm up in crimson and open world in dead rising).

Resogun is in my opinion a more interesting game than crimson dragoon but can have indie look for most people.

It's amusing how history is going to repeat for me. My PS3 was a Super Stardust HD to TV adapter, and now my PS4 will be a Resogun to TV adapter.

I sort of agree. Launch is guarantee a sell out now. Pushing back drive club and marketing it correctly can be a smart move to hold it as a big cartrige for 2014.

It still suck hard for launch user. I was looking forward that PS Plus edition :(

This is the first negative Sony news then? I was looking forward to DC. Wasnt my favourite launch game but on my buying list. Regardless of a delay, the launch line up is solid enough for 2 or 3 months.

Just read the opening post. Althought it will be disappointing if it were delayed, receiving more dev time will definitely polish up the game and possibly hit the 60fps mark. I'm sure they'll add and refine many other features too. So it ain't so bad after all! ;p

The silence is deafening.

I've been on Twitter most of the morning following #DriveClub and there are countless people asking official sources for a response and there is absolutely nothing.
