TheSameCoin Rumor: DriveClub delayed till 2014

More amazed this thread has gotten way more posts then the actual DC thread.

Crazy!!
There have been alot of people waiting for bad news for Sony.

I was looking forward to playing it but can wait if it means a better product.
Killzone is my main Day 1 game.

No... DRIVECLUB PS+ version is the full game minus a few tracks and cars. You can platinum the game with the PS+ version.
I wonder why I keep seeing people call it a "glorified demo". I never saw a demo that let you play the entire game with less cars and tracks and still platinum the game. It sounds like they try to downplay it for some odd reason.

I have 3 games on pre-order and Forza5 comes with the console. The rest I will rent or get in the following month or so. I play a LOT of games. They will last me a few months. Nowhere near the 2 years you suggest. Online will be the only reason I will still be playing longer than that.

I wasn't getting a PS4 for DC, I pre-ordered before the launch titles were announced.

So you preordered before any title was announced, and now that one exclusive slipped, you're cancelling it? Makes total sense. Imagine if it they didn't have any launch game!

How one earth can you platinum the game on a limited set of tracks? Bizarre.

How on earth can you platinum certain games without completing every single mission/quest?!

- When you upgrade from the PS+ Edition you get the full digital edition which doesn't require a PS+ subscription.
- You can earn the platinum trophy in the PS+ Edition, remember its the full game minus a few cars/tracks.
- Rear-view mirrors as you've seen in the latest direct feed footage just show the environment - you'd be surprised how limited the visibility in the mirrors are for a lot of these cars and for gameplay purposes we want to give the best visibility.
- We are working on a photo mode, but that's all I can say about it right now.
- You guys wanted uncompressed footage and obviously the PS4 capture utilises some form of video compression to ensure the videos aren't ridiculously large (the raw direct feed videos we captured are 6GB for 2 minutes of footage).
- We're working on alternative solutions for trying to get the highest quality vids up online quickly by ourselves.

I've been following this thread and honestly I'm shocked so many people cared about Driveclub. The ONLY reason I was going to play it was because it was going to be free with Plus. Even then I'd have played it a couple times and then probably never touch it again. Apparently it is Sony's most anticipated launch game on GAF though...

The "apparently it was the most major PS4 game for you guys" posts are funny.

What if someone was getting a PS4 for Watchdogs, Driveclub, and a few multiplats?

All they have now are multiplats and some will (& have) made the decision to just stick with the system(s) they currently have when it comes to multiplats due to it being cheaper.

So yeah, Driveclub is a big game -- racing game fans were looking forward to it on their PS4.

Now that we cant have it, we want it, badly. When they were giving it away for free...we hated it and wanted GT7P.

I expected to play it and maybe buy it, but was not a sure thing (being a launch game would improve its chances).

Maybe sony will just credit eveyone 10 dollars of psn currency and let us buy what we want??

I've preordered DriveClub, hope they'll sort out otherwise I'll be getting Killzone and Battlefield (one of them is already on my wishlist) in the meantime and buy it later.

ok this is getting worrying, no word from @yosp too?

There won't be a final word until they have the details worked out. They will need to announce a new game for PS+ (or at least weigh their options about NOT offering a game and the fallout from it). You have to remember this is a Corporation and while Sony has done a good job "seeming approachable", there is still tons of red tape to cut and many factors for them to consider.

I still see Driveclub in the Playstation store under the perfect day ad. I still see it on the greatness awaits website. Still see it's for pre-order. Idk but if I was Sony I would be laughing and wondering why I needed to acknowledge this rumor, especially over twitter.

I'm sure there are some people that were buying a PS4 to play Driveclub. That being said, the game was very rarely talked about around here. As someone in this thread mentioned, there's more people talking about the game here than in the game's actual threads. I just find it kind of amusing.

With no word yet specifically stating it isn't delayed kinda means confirmation that is delayed right? I mean surely by now they would have said something. Seems like they are still trying to come up with the best way to break the news.

Racing-game aficionados: If this delay is true, does it change your day one purchase? ie. Would you now buy an Xbox One for Forza (or no console at all)? I can't answer, as I rarely play racing games that don't contain Mario.

I understand that. I just think that many who aren't interested in Driveclub can see why others wanted it.

They still have the multiplats, and the better versions of them at that.

Haha, Ok.

Were some people looking forward to playing DriveClub on the PS4? Yes

Did anybody pre-order a PS4 strictly for DriveClub? Not a chance

It was a new, unproven franchise by a developer whose last game sold fairly poorly.

Nobody bought a PS4 strictly for DriveClub. You buy a console at launch knowing that over the life of the console it will have games you'll enjoy.

Lol @ canceling pre-orders.
Someone who wants a PS4 just might be able to get one now.
I love how people are acting like the launch games were just announced yesterday.

mhh, I don't really have any interest in Knack...
DC was the perfect first PS+ game for me, KZ I have preorded via the big PS4 bundle.

If they choose another PS+ title and delay DC, do you guys think they will introduce the PS+ edition again when DC releases? I could preorder DC for 20€ with that amazon offer when you preorder a PS4. Just didn't do it because of the PS+ edition.

Still, it's so weird that they would delay it just a month shy of release. That's usually when games gone gold so they should have known this well in advance.

They could release the game with the PS4 and offer a day one patch, that would give them another month. They anyway said it would be constantly updated, I was thinking this will be the next Burnout Paradise.
Or release a PS+/beta version for PS+ and preorders.
But I'm not sure if this brings more harm (reviews etc.) than releasing a better product. I hope it's not just to keep that 60 fps "promise" :P

DriveClub is a big launch title. I'm cancelling my non-existent pre-order.

I like the whole incessant "confirm or deny" watch, it's mildly amusing. No update yet. No update yet. No update yet. Lotion at the ready.

Why don't they announce the delay, what the fuck are they waiting for?

I need to move on to the acceptance stage of grief, and I can't.

This is strange.

Maybe they don't want to announce the delay so close to the Watch_Dogs delay? That's a one-two punch of disappointment for the PS4 launch.
The problem is- the further away they get from Ubi announcing WD's delay, the closer they get to the actual PS4 launch. :/

On the other hand, maybe there really isn't a delay and they just don't want to comment on the rumors?
Sony has been weird about that. On some things you have Yoshida coming right out denying rumors. On others, they are more silent. Remember when many assumed PS4 would have DRM simply because Sony didn't comment on rumors that it would have it post-Adam Orth? "They are not commenting! It must be true!"

Either way, they should confirm or deny this ASAP.

I think it's because people are now starting to come to their senses and are now realizing that they simply got caught up in all the hype of a new console. News like this certainly sobers the mind quite a bit.

THIS. I think for most people, pre-ordering has no cost so there is no reason NOT to pre-order a console. Its really just taking a ticket at the deli counter to hold your place in line. Then the fever wears off, or you look at cash on hand at the time, or the games and realize it may not be best for you at launch. Its not like this is a binary option. Get it at launch, or never get it at all. It can easily be, dont spend the money at launch and spend the money in 1 month, 3, months, 3 years, etc.

Haha, Ok.

I don't understand what's funny about that. Do you think PS4 won't have any exclusives down the road, or that people don't buy new consoles for multiplatform games? Or are you laughing at my statement about the PS4 mutliplats being the superior versions? (not counting PC obviously).

That is your opinion. In my opinion, people buy a console at launch because there are games they want to play right then and there (except for the few blind early adopters). I will buy a console when there is a game I really want to play, and THEN I will be happy knowing there will be more games coming during the life of the console. If there is no game you want, why buy it now?

Isn't Friday usually a good bad news day since the weekend softens the blow? Or something like that? I'd imagine it would be then.

They'll still be getting a PS4 for a few multiplats an improved Driveclub a few months later and an improved Watchdogs a month or two after that.

I wasn't aware the topic had shifted to an outright cancellation of the game.

It was unnecessary imo. PS4 possibly having better looking multiplats at launch just takes the discussion into console war territory and tries to cover up the impact that Driveclub not being there at launch can have on racing game fans that were getting a PS4.

On the other hand, maybe there really isn't a delay and they just don't want to comment on the rumors?

The thing is, if you don't want to comment on rumors you do it by (ironically) commenting to simply say "We do not comment on rumor or speculation", and say that for everything so we have no way of knowing if its a good or a bad response.

Simple reasons is that silence is the recognized games industries way of trying to hide its bad news. Its done by all the companies, not just Sony. So much so that RockPaperShotgun have even done a couple of pieces on it in the past.

Most people (myself included) see silence as a "yes" with regards to this sort of thing, but I'm a cynical git so that may have something to do with it.

amazon.de changed the release date to february 21st a couple of minutes ago, but switched back to november 29th less then five minutes later. another coincidence? :(

Yep, stock markets close. It gives investors the time to 'absorb' bad news and by the time it is Monday, the impact on the stock won't be as big.
