Thief on PS4 looks 'almost identical' to PC version, runs on Unreal Engine 3

There's no way Uncharteds look better than Tomb Raider on pc.

Except for character models and cutscenes (which are pre-rendered anyway).

But it's a stupid comparison; at console settings Uncharted is better, of course.

Honestly, this sounds more and more like bullshit everyday. No way a 7850 can't run a UE3 game at 60fps. It's probably like the PS3 situation where they had a 7800GTX but cut the bandwidth in half from 256 bit to 128 bit. Yet here we are, 8 GB of GDDR5 later and we don't get a UE3 game at 60 fps.

The UE4 demo was also embarrassingly bad, and the original PC demo wasn't all that impressive to begin with aside from the particle effects.

You may want to read up on the UE4 situation as it stands right now.

Also FYI, the memory bus width is 256 bit for PS4.

As it stands now, I'd say it has to do with tools.

Unless the game has a dedicated texture pack for PC (like Sleeping Dogs), the differance is usually very minimal between the console version and the PC one imo. The Image on PC always looks sharper and cleaner too becuase of AA and the higher rezs of course but that pretty much it.

So if I am understanding this correctly, the game will only look "almost identical" to the PC version? Even though it is a UE3 game that apparently began development on 360/PS3? What is the reason in getting a PS4 at launch then? It doesn't look they have any launch exclusives that will move systems for people that already have gaming PCs, so if the graphics aren't even better than current gaming PCs then that is really too bad. I'd like to be excited about the next generation but geeze...

What did you expect?

Has there been a single launch title that's had a PC release that's ever looked better on console? The title looking almost as good as the PC version maxed is a best case scenario- see COD2, which still impressed on 360 despite being not quite as good.

The first party titles are the ones that will bring the real graphical wow for PS4.

i predict these new consoles are going to have a bad first year. i cant see a compelling reason to own one day one ar present. i have a nice pc tho

What compelling reasons were there to own a 360 or PS3 in their first year? Sure, there were games, but not too many exclusive "killer apps".

They really don't. 720p and average AA does not a good looking game make. Oh, and throw in 30fps too.

They're better games, but not better looking games.

By this logic, if a PC ran Half life 1 at 240 frames per second with x16AA at some ridiculous resolution it would it would look way better then let's say Killzone 3?

No. These more to graphics then Frames per second and AA.

i had quiet a few. cod 2. graw, oblivion, gears, dead or alive 4. These games felt fresh and brand new experiences for a console environment, bar dead or alive. I have this awful feeling that the first year, minimum, of new consoles is going to be the exact same games we have played in the last few years but prettier. that is going to really make the market suffer

I am afraid of this too, and not even thaaaaaaat prettier :(

It certainly looks decent upgrade from last thief.
Now I just hope that it's still possible to turn off all lights and that they have not made it a tunnel run with scripted events.

I didn't own a PS3 in its first year, but the first year of 360 games weren't too bad. And graphically they blew the last generation out of the water, and were even better than my PC at the time. The next generation of consoles though, at least from what I've seen on the PS4, has been kind of underwhelming. Seems like there is more of a focus on the services rather than on the games themselves.

So is it the PC BFG version that looks worse than the 2004 PC version? Because they talk about the PC version here. However, the Beshada guy still say the game uses the same resolution textures as the 2004 version. Anyway, we have games like Battlefield 3 on xbox360 that look so much better than Doom3. I am still amazed when I see how great B3 looks and runs on the Xbox360.

Same resolution. Worse compression. = Worse looking than the 2004 version.

Yeah but I don't really think that this is the case. All reviews said the opposite. And, it's not like the Xbox360 would have any problem running a 2004 PC game like Doom3.

LOL, "reviews". The reviewers didn't even notice the missing shadows from the projectiles!

Really? Aside from PGR, I didn't think there was much impressive in the 360 launch from a visual perspective. Although, Kameo was doing some nice things, sadly hampered by what was a rather atrocious art direction.

On PS3, I think HS was the first game to really impress me. There is no doubt though that the pc versions of multiplat games performed better even at the beginning of the generation. Certainly Oblivion looked better on PC than 360. It was the exclusives initially where PS3 and 360 shone. HS initially for PS3, Gears was really the first that impressed me on 360.

I was just responding to the usual PC gamer shite of "The PC version looks 1000 times better than the console version", it doesn't and Uncharted looks better anyway.

But Tomb Raider on PC looks much better than Uncharted. You must be talking about Uncharted console vs Tomb Raider console.

You're not making much sense when there will be reasons to own at least a PS4.

Having a 6 core SLI PC won't stop me from wanting to buy some of them PS4 games coming to retail and PSN.

Let's not get too crazy as we know PC is king and I don't think there is anyone here disputing that.

I also think it's rather short sighted to dismiss a next gen platform like PS4 when we are only in the infancy of the platform but so far, everything about it sounds very compelling and that's not just from a HW but the most important thing, games.
