Things people HATE about gaming that you don't mind at all

60fps. My friend hates 60fps because it looks "less real and more robotic" to him, but I don't really mind 60fps, I actually prefer them infact.

When a game doesn't have HD towns or a big open world.

I don't care. Give me a good story and characters thats fun to play and linearity is fine with me. In fact I get kind of overwhelmed when things open up like crazy.

30fps

Doesn't bother me and i still find games highly playable at 30fps.

yeh, me too... 30, 60... whatever.

I have never had a problem with any certain controller. They all seem comfortable to me. Maybe I just have perfects hands or something.

perfect hands here, too.

Turn based combat.

still awesome.

yeah, no problem.

Trial and error gameplay.

yeah... BUT, depends on the "checkpoint" mechanics...

Lack of narrative.

agree. Actually, I prefer minimal or no narrative at all.

Backtracking, if done right. Metroidvanias are the best.

yeah!

Nintendo?

LOL, great answer.

Wah Wah sounds in NSMB

freezing a turtle in the middle of his dance it's awesome.

Traditional JRPGs.

Final Fantasy XIII series-beyond all the retarded nouns, I like the world and characters and the battle system.

Nintendo reusing IP. They innovate in gameplay even when using the same characters so idgaf.

Turn based Combat and leveling/loot mechanics are my preferred style of games. I actively seek those out.

Gameplay. Think about it. Some people hate it cause it gets in the way of what they really want... which I won't describe in detail.

Lack of quicksaves. I actually like when there's checkpoints and I know what the game has been balanced around, something like Dark Souls would be nowhere near as satisfying with quicksaves for example. And yet people always think its an automatic flaw if a game doesn't have it. I like it fine in stuff like Skyrim when I'm just dicking around, but I much prefer challenging games to forgo them most of the time.

(and yes I've heard the "just don't use them" argument a million times already, so don't say that and miss the point entirely)

People hate turn based gameplay? this is news to me and completely baffling, turn based stuff is fantastic (subjective opinion ofc). If done well, allows for some of the most tactical gameplay imaginable. If you need proof, chess is turn based, enough said.

Swapping between different controllers and games with weird controls has never bothered me. Everything's comfortable in my hands and after an hour or so any odd control scheme feels absolutely fine.

Also seconding "jank" or games that feel unpolished. Sometimes that is part of the overall charm and I think you're missing out on some real gems if you avoid games like that.

Sequels. I've absolutely no problem with continuing a franchise if I like it enough. I could take 100 more Assassins Creed games because the entire premise of exploring history and killing infamous people appeals to me.

Oversaturation is different. Keeping with the AC example, a lot of people have been turned off due to a sequel every year. Same with CoD.

Frames per second

It don't matter if all you want is a fun moment to play. Only pro players need it to be the highest and most steady possible.

I'm not a pro player, so Fps don't bugs me. Can be 60, 45, 30 or even 24 fps that my enjoyment will be the same.

I love linear games.
I love old school story telling through cutscenes, that doesn't bother me at all.
I love long and tedious boss fights.
I love unlocking super secret shit that you have to go through massive hurdles.
I love it when a game makes me play it to its fullest just to get something small done.
I love unexplained un-obvious shit that will probably make you pull your hair out in rage.

Finally, I love games that expect you to die before you can learn a fight properly. If you can walk into a room and beat a boss flawlessly on the first attempt or so that is unexciting as hell. You'll never get pumped over completing something if you don't find yourself screaming THIS IS FUCKING BULLSHIT at least twice.

It isn't even a too easy thing, it's a too forgiving thing. One example that comes to mind is the liquid snake vs solid snake fist fight at the end of MGS1 vs liquid ocelot vs old snake.

The liquid snake fight was so raw and in fact it was kind of bullshit, you probably didn't know you had to knock him off 3 times before he died and as soon as he got to 50% hp he starts bullrushing you for 30% of your health bar on top of the cumbersome. It was a hard fight for all the wrong reasons But it was 10 times more satisfying to finish that fight than the final fight of MGS4 because the MGS4 boss battle was just a glorified event scene, you couldn't lose that battle if you tried so as a result it had far less impact than I expected it to have upon beating it.

Anime designs and tropes.

I don't particularly like most anime designs but it bothers me when people dismiss games entirely because they're too animey.

More realistic or in-depth gameplay.

From GTA IV driving physics to proper recoil and spread in guns ( not many console games offer this anymore)

When people dislike games that have a weight to them or when games have different controls.

30fps
Nintendo reusing characters
CoD
QTEs
All-digital games
Anything trophy related - just don't care
Motion Controls
Backtracking
Linearity
GTA4

Kinect
Move

...and also pre-ordering. There's a reason retailers do this, and if I'm planning on spending the money anyway, I see no reason not to pre-order a title, especially from Amazon or some such place where no deposit is required. However, I do hate those retailer exclusive bonuses though, and with a passion.

Linearity, plain and simple. Most people hate games now-a-days that are linear, but I've realized that most of the games I have loved dearly over the years have been linear. Mega Man, Castlevania(pre SOTN), Mario, Sonic, Uncharted, Bioshock...all linear.

As someone with ADHD, I find a completely open world game to be VERY distracting, and typically, with few exceptions(Fallout 3, Saint's Row The Third), I play open world games for 10-20 hours, get nowhere due to always being distracted, and quit playing, frustrated.

I can always return to a linear game, though, and play through it. I know that I'm moving from point a to point b, but it doesn't matter to me. A focused game is one that will keep me interested.

I don't seem to notice the graphical problems like screen tearing that people grind their teeth about. 30fps also doesn't kill me.

motion controls/kinect
dual analog fps
dlc when done right

I also dont need every game to look realistic. It gets boring and repetitive.

Kinect
Move

oh man Kinect and Motion control in general really grinds my gear, but I respect your opinion

I don't mind about 30fps... I used to play games at 15-20fps all the time before I got a decent computer, guess I got used to it

QTEs, if they're well executed and engaging
Linearity
GTA IV seriousness, I seem to be the only one who prefered GTA IV over SA and VC

QTEs, I just don't give a fuck. They don't get in the way at all and they're just button prompts for these you'd otherwise see in a cutscene anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want every game to use it, but I do think it opens up some neat gameplay opportunities. I just wish Kinect worked better (either through more intelligent usage of it, or better hardware) and that the Move had gotten more support.

Lack of challenge. I often play games on easy when challenge isn't the reason I play the game in the first place.

On the other hand, I don't mind the game being totally unfair or even unplayable, if it's coherent with what the game tries to do. I'm totally okay with what people often say are the design choices of Far Cry 2, because it serves a purpose. (But then again there's a difference between acknowledging a game's quality and actually enjoying it.)

Also, yeah, 30 fps (or even 20), QTEs (when the game is aware of what it's doing - see Asura's Wrath), backtracking, linearity, and not having all the trophies (which I don't give a single fuck about and would disable if I could.)

Seems like you do have a reason not to preorder games...

Oversexualized Female characters.
I mean sure more human like female characters is the way to go, but I really don't mind or care if they are oversexualized.

XP
Grinding
First Person Shooters
Using the term "Campaign" for Single Player modes
Online gaming smack talk
Characters appearing so small on screen

Single player campaigns and The Elder Scrolls.

Any video game lore. (Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, etc.)

Video Game industry news.

*As an adult you realize your most prized hobby is ridiculed and hilariously talked bad about behind your back.

I don't mind having to pay money for cosmetic crap, I like giving my character a bit of extra cute or visual flair.

I don't mind DLC at all, especially since it's a very convenient way to deliver things like expansion packs.

I don't mind turn based combat when it's done unobtrusively enough; it's kind of relaxing honestly.

I don't mind gratuitious RPG mechanics, because they're my weak spot.
