Apart from all the usual sightseeing stuff, what tourist-friendly (I only know the most basic cantonese picked up from movies) places would you guys recommend? I'm going for 4 nights with a couple of friends, if that helps.

Thanks!

1. Go to the Mong Kok markets. Regular retail outlets don't open till 1pm; street markets are open from late in the evening and disappear at around midnight. If you want to challenge people on fighting/soccer games and remain relatively unharmed by any triad presence, go to Cyber City.

2. Games/hardware, go to Sham Shui Po and keep your wallet in your front pocket.

3. For good retail shopping, go to Causeway Bay - lots of big department stores there.

4. Go to the Tsim Sha Tsui wharf to see Lei Wu Long's level from Tekken (look towards Central). Don't buy anything there, though.

There's supposed to be really good food in Hong Kong. Really cheap too, says my parents.

eat, eat and eat...make sure you eat the stinky tofu that's sold on the street. I love it. It's really stinky tho...you will know from a mile away.

Thanks for the replies :)

My friend has a couple of questions:
1. Does anyone know where to find street level mapping for PC/PDA that is compatible with GPS?
2. Has anyone stayed at The Ritz in kowloon? (we got a cheap deal)

PORN FIX TOO!

Hahaha yeah that 4th? floor had porn coming out of the walls! I got some wonderful stories about that place...

I remember going up there the first time to look around, all the vendors would try and be really friendly, get you to come in and buy their porn. But if a girl walked by, they were bashful and looked anywhere but in their direction. I was in Hong Kong for a class, and one of my classmates was a girl who was...open...about sexuality. So she grabbed the only guy she knew who could speak chinese and dragged him up to sino center. It was great...she kept asking for hentai anime that had 'more tentacles' and then she wanted to watch it in the store to see if she liked it. And then she haggled with the guy for the price. He said something like 20 HKD and she looked him right in the eye and said "FIVE DOLLARS!"

Another time I was there, my friend was looking at some DVDs and then suddenly, a guy ran up the escalator and shouted 'hurry and close! hurry and close!' in chinese. Literally less than 5 minutes later, the entire place was closed. I was funny to witness a crackdown on a firsthand basis :)
