Where are those charts comparing profit and market share when you need them.

It all depends on whether you look at PS3 from a perspective of business/economics or general public interest.

Inarguably Sony really lost a lot of money as a result of the sheer cost of R+D and manufacture with PS3, but in terms of how many units have been shipped to the public and how sales have stabilized in recent years despite the huge successes of the Wii and 360... as a product its been pretty damn successful.

Point is, all these years from its launch, PS3 still a very viable platform - which is not something you can say about any other "failed" consoles.

Nope. It's all about third console arrogance. Far more than a curse because you do it to yourself and no one else.
I completely agree with this guy. There is no such thing as 3rd console curse but 3rd console arrogance because "My last console was successful so I'm confident enough that my next one will surpass my last one."

Let's not forget the original 3rd console curse guys...

Pong
2600
5200

5200 to Coleco shares many similarities to XBONE to PS4.
Was going to bring this one up as it does sort of get overlooked, goes back further then the N64.

I think its just an arrogance thing, console maker has a hit system, makes follow up that does everything the consumers wants and is just as loved f not more so. Thinks they can get away with whatever they want but it all backfires on them.

Kinda surprised it hasn't effected Nintendo on the portable scene, I imagine had there been a viable competitor to the Advance it may have happened (depending on if you count the GBC as a separate system to the original GB).

Ok...I don't actually mean curse in the voodoo, black magic sense. I mean it in a statistical and historical sense.

Thanks for correcting me on Drive Club not being a simulation. Sounds like Forza Horizon. Which then poses the question on who will buy the game. If you're a racing game enthusiast you either want arcade or simulation. A mix of the two is always iffy as you then have a clash in design philosophy to balance.

For example I'm driving a Koenigsegg in Drive Club, have they designed the cars physics and handling to be like the Koenigsegg? Or is it just car porn for me to look at? Because if Drive Club is just car porn why would someone buy Drive Club over GT6 where you get car porn plus if I use my logitech wheel I get the motion and feel too? Drive Club wants to have masses and masses of DLC from the sounds of it...but I bet GT6 has more cars, courses and game modes and all in a single game purchase as opposes to Drive Club where I'm assuming they're going down the Forza route where you have several car packs.

Maybe I'm looking at this too black and white.
