This E3 showed me how great GameTrailers is.

I love GT crew, but they seems don't have much connection within the industry like the other big outlet.
They didn't book any big name for interview is the only lacking.

Ehhhh. A lot of E3 interviews are people reading off of PR approved stuff. I don't miss it, and I can get that everywhere else.

It's funny, until recently what with their Keighley association, I'd have called you crazy for saying that. I haven't been following, did they get downsized or something?

I used to watch GT. I used to watch every invisible walls the week they came out. But slowly the site lost my interest. And it should have happened sooner since they covered almost 0 PC content at the time (maybe more now, I dunno). After IW stopped, I really had zero reason to go to the site.

Now I mostly watch twitter for news. I have about 4-5 outlets followed so I generally get enough when I want it. And I'll find some things on neogaf I guess.

Just want to say, not to take part of this weird GT vs GB war going on, but it is very easy to not be enthusiastic about the ff7 remake or shemnue 3 when they never cared about either franchise.

Not that they've made it a secret either.

I like them, and their Game of the Year week is like an event for me now, but god damn are some of them WAY too fucking jaded. If you can't even bring yourself to be enthusiastic about a press conference announcing TLG is alive, FF7 remake, and Shenmue 3, maybe it's time to take a break from the hobby for a bit.

The sheer enthusiasm that the GT crew had will be the stuff of legend and I loved it.

How about if you aren't a fan of any of those games/series? Giant Bomb sold me on VR, Mario Maker and Horizon this E3. Seriously, take a look at Dan describing his Oculus demo and tell me they're jaded. Maybe they're just not blindly in love with re-releases and throwbacks to games/franchises they played over a decade ago and didn't care much for then?

Yeah, they were owned by Viacom and after last E3, they were sold to Defy and lost 2/3rds of their staff.

People were talking mad shit about the GT guys for their reaction to the announcements in the Giantbomb thread. I thought it was pretty refreshing to see the press not being completely jaded.

Love the Giantbomb guys but they are not impressed by anything anymore.

Unfortunately, I agree with you on this. I started listening to the Giant Bombcast a few years back and I used to enjoy it. I honestly wonder if some of them enjoy video games at all.

Yeah last year they got significantly downsized.

I think GT has piss poor technology - their streaming and ad-injecting system always gives me issues and unnecessary interruptions. I see lower res videos, more ads and random errors when compared to youtube. I like the people and would visit and support their site more, but their technology is frozen in time from 3 years ago (it feels like). I will use them more if they fix their crap.

Fair point, I have been a VR skeptic and that interview convinced me I at least need to try it before I write it off (no idea how to get ahold of one to try, and lots of tech can impress with a 5 minute demo, I wanna see if it's cool AND I can play it for an hour or two at a time comfortably).

Not everyone shares your taste. I personally don't care about TLG and Shenmue 3. I mean cool. Shenmue 3, I am a tiny bit interested cause I played the past games. TLG... couldn't care less. That doesn't make me jaded. That is quite obnoxious.

Jeff Gertsmann and crew seemed really unimpressed. I saw their pre and post conference talks, and none of them seemed very excited. :(

please be excited giant bomb!

I'm glad GT is getting so much love! The podcast GT Time and live show GT Live are both good places to start watching if your new.

they post all of their videos on youtube now, so you don't have to worry about problems on their website

I haven't played Shenmue 1 or 2. I probably won't play Shenmue 3, unless perhaps I get a future HD re-release of 1 and 2 and like them.

But I was still fucking stoked when they announced that because I was so happy for the many people in the gaming community that have been asking for this for 15 years. I dunno, it wasn't JUST this one time with GB, I've noticed for a while now that they seem more and more jaded about a lot of games.

Hey, I'm still listening and still a fan. Just my personal observation.

I watched the E3 live stream all week. I had a fantastic time and they are like family to me now. I am now a huge fan and will be watching most of their shows and listening to their podcasts. If anybody reads this from GameTrailers, you guys are amazing, the stream was awesome, I am now a huge fan!

Brandon is the voice of their Top 10 lists correct? I liked him a lot more before i had to suffer through their "No Man's Sky: Just Played" segment where he was a fucking dolt the entire time.

Dude sits and says he loves Minecraft and then in the same instance says "But what do you DO in No Man's Sky???!!"

Fuckin hell.

Other than that one thing.. their entire E3 coverage was godamned amazing. The elation and fun and genuine excitement was ... just a breath of fresh air. I wasn't huge on Huber until i watched he and Kyle do the Final bets segment and then all the livestream stuff... dude is straight PASSIONATE and i love it. Both those guys.. i wanna hang out with em.

they post most of their content on youtube now as well as their own site. go there.

Same.

I read OP's post with a little irony. I used to love GT but then all my favorites left it, like Marcus Beer and Mike Damiani. But the big one for me was easily Ryan Stevens. I loved that guy, and he was the reason why everyone there loves the Souls games so much. Fuck, I just went through his twitter and his dry humor is still pretty great. His goodbye video was pretty sick too.

Anyway it's weird to see this new GT. It's basically a whole new staff now then it was a little over a year ago.

I was still reeling from Sony's conference when I tuned in to Giant Bomb to see their commentary. It looked and sounded like someone just died. They would go on and on about their concern and about how "PS4 has no games".

It's alright that they don't care at all for any of the things being announced (or games in general, but I digress), I'm no big fan of Shenmue for instance. But to be fully cynical and snarky about it, and be unable to recognize why these announcements mean great deal to your presumably fellow gamers then that's not very endearing.

I'd rather watch unprofessional people who are still fans of the field they cover and feel enthusiasm for it, than watch unprofessional people (and don't fool yourself believing otherwise) who are snarky, cynical, pessimistic and dismissive of anything that doesn't directly appeal to them.

In defense of Brandon being a "dolt" in the NMS Just Played - it was at the end of like the third day in a row of working for 16+ hours straight and they just weren't on the same page of what they were trying to talk about/express. Brandon's a lot more collected usually and he made some clarifications on it the next day.

And he's the voice of all their reviews btw and pretty much everything else that isn't them sitting and talking together.

For those with Video Player Issues - they said they have a completely new one in the works and in the meantime they upload pretty much everything to youtube. Videos often even go up on Youtube before they do the main website, so I go there a lot anyways.

Yes, Damiani and Ryan are what I miss most, both of them have incredible knowledge in games.

I do not think most are arguing what someone likes and does not like, but to go as far and make comments that "we (as in gamers) do not need another Uncharted", and "FF7 (Squares best game of all time) is a waste of resources" ...

(Where nobody on the 'panel' rebutted those comments, they just nodded like a hive mind.)

Those are jaded comments. Just because I do not care for Mario Maker or Fable, does not mean I would say they should not exist.

Those comments are just a disservice to gamers in general.

For the record, the only one I was pumped for was The Last Guardian. The other two I may not play (never was into Final Fantasy so never played 7 on my PlayStation), nor really interested in, however they should exist for those who love them.

I like how Huber from GT describes his experiences. Reminds me of why we all play games.

Couldn't stand the old GameTrailers with Shane, Marcus, Damiani etc. I really really like Bosman and the rest of the group are pretty great too now. They seem SUPER low budget though, and pale in comparison to GB in terms of production value.

To be fair, those are all comments made by Brad, and he loves making generalizations like that.

The little side crap slinging show between those who watched GT and those who watched Giantbomb E3 that's risen up over the past week is silly imo. This is what I say to those people;

You can like the eccentricity and enthusiasm of the GT guys without having to pan the GB guys and say that they are jaded, grumpy, or not passionate about games, and you can like the laid-back, coolheaded hang out style of the GB guys without having to call GT people crybabies or immature. You can like both! And you can do it for whatever reason, not just the reasons I listed that I like them.

And it's your opinion, so you can dislike either or both for whatever reasons as well, but both outlets have something to offer and it's pretty obvious some people are just shitting on one or the other out of preference like it's a middle school war.

I'm bringing it up because I sure wouldn't like to be called passionless and jaded over and over again if I just spent a week tirelessly playing, talking, and interviewing everything about games. Same thing goes if I get excited and cry over something dear to me in the midst of friends and I get tons of people ridiculing me for it.

Just a thought, but I really like the GT guys and the GB guys.

They were sold by Viacom to Defy Media and over half the staff was laid off. Their budget was slashed substantially. This was their first year at E3 under this new ownership. Also the first year the site has been up since they were sold. So their budget and how they are trying to function is still trying to be situated.

I think they did the best they could, all things considered. But I hope on a technical level they can clean these things up.

Also the same Brad who was fawning over the Uncharted 4 closed door demo he saw the next day? I have the same mindset, Uncharted is tired to me now, but the fact that Brad was excited for it made me excited for it. When you go in hype-mode over everything is gets really one-note.

Hey look, another thread shitting on Giantbomb for no reason. Great...
Well the reasons are pretty simple. They're boring, little charisma and seem like people who don't like games. Every time I've seen the main guy talk about any game, he's been shitting on them.

Never listened to GT guys much, but loved their passion. The way they reacted to some of the games losing their minds was hilarious. I'll try and give them a listen and see how they are on a regular basis, that's a proper barometer to see how they are.

Also, the air con gets shut off at 6 apparently and the room Ian is sitting in is even hotter. Shows how close they are that there was only one of these moments each day with the MGS Trailer Score too. Needed to cool off!

Not to drag this issue, because it shouldn't even be discussed in here, at least for me it's not about them not getting excited. I just defended Elyse in this thread because someone said she wasn't that stoked.

It's about how dismissive they were about the whole thing. I'm not even that excited to either of those games but I know how big they are for people. They just dismissed as not a big deal and Brad said something along the lines of FF7 being a waste of resources...

Still love their content but I switched to gt stream during the rest of the conferences.

GB seem plenty impressed by the oculus demos going by what im hearing on the beastcast.

i'm just sayin.

Heh, yeah, they kept going each night for 4+ more hours with no AC in a hot LA office. They worked crazy hard to do all of that E3 coverage.

To be fair, those are all comments made by Brad, and he loves making generalizations like that.

Jeff said we did not need another Uncharted I believe.

Regardless, is the panel a hive mind? Do they not have their own opinions, or they allow stupid comments to be made with no conjecture?

I would have been at least, "whoa, whoa, I would not go that far."

Like many others I used to watch GT about four years ago. I stopped because the UI in the webpage (suddenly became really bad), Patch (seriously, I hated that guy with all my humanity and guts), and region locked jokes or appreciation about some topics. Since I'm from Chile it's no easy job to find impartial or games-only-focussed commentaries, I mean technically, without things that I don't understand simply because I'm not living there (US o EU).

Found IGN and it was quite suitable for be. But yes, after all the people who left the company in the recent time... never was the same place.

As always, I returned to you gaffers, with the tail between my legs.
Maybe I will give it a shoot.

Exactly....It used to be my fav podcast, but i really cant take how negative it is now.

I subbed too GT right away after this E3. So refreshing seeing people being genuine hyped about games, instead of this constant cynical pessimism and complaining we've seen so much of lately.

Wow, super awesome to see all the love GT is getting. I've been following them since the Shane and Marcus days, through the shift with Ryan Stevens, Justin and Rivas etc. to the current regime. They're definitely at their best now, their personalities blend so well together and their content is so much fun. Their Twitch streams feel like you're just hanging out with some down to earth friends who are passionate about games which is all you can ask for really. Hopefully the fan base grows a lot after such a positive E3, it'd be awesome for them as they're all such lovely people. I only really visit them and Kinda Funny these days as they're always positive and happy about what they're doing.

Oh and for the love of god, can we keep the GB crap out of Gametrailers threads? It's just bringing down the good vibes.

To be fair, those are all comments made by Brad, and he loves making generalizations like that.

Brad's been a bit insufferable this week. I have no problem with anyone else at Giant Bomb. If they're not always respectful with their proclamations at least they're funny about it. Brad just can't help but shit in everybody's cereal.

On topic, GT has become a really great place and it's pretty clear that Kyle Bosman has been leading the charge. When his show premiered it was a breath of fresh air in the jaded and cynical world that is video game fandom. Yeah, they may not act with the utmost "professionalism" (lol) when they see something they like, but at least they're being honest about it. 90% of us wouldn't be on this site if, deep down, we weren't still children when it comes to video games.

I used to visit their site just for the final bossman. But this E3 I became addicted to their twitch stream. So great. Loved those just plays and the personalities. Their reactions seem genuine and a better mix of enthusiasm and love of gaming than other sites I've seen

I feel like after years of searching I finally found my 1Up.com replacement. Hell huber in his enthusiasm reminds me some of Shane.

Yeah the GT coverage was amazeballs.

I just don't understand how those cynical Giant Bummer guys can see stuff like Mario Maker, Just Cause 3, matured VR and Horizon and not be happy.

Dude sits and says he loves Minecraft and then in the same instance says "But what do you DO in No Man's Sky???!!"

I know that's the go-to joke with No Man's Sky, even on GAF but IMO it's not entirely unwarranted.

The appeal of Minecraft is virtual Lego. No Man's Sky seems to be mostly just about exploration and atmosphere. Honestly I think what you saw in that gameplay demo is most of what the actual game is.

Brad from Giant Bomb actually put it pretty well in that as long as that's what you're looking for it's great, but that a lot of people are expecting it to be a game in which you can do anything and most likely a lot of them are going to be disappointed when they find out that's pretty much all there is to it..
