Yeah it was beautiful to see they so truly eemotional and excited over the announcements, a real nice change from the constant snark and "shenmue fucking sucks sucks" and "videogames are all stupid" misery of other sites.

I'd been enjoying The Final Bosman for a long time because of that positivity already but I need to check out more of their stuff now

I was still reeling from Sony's conference when I tuned in to Giant Bomb to see their commentary. It looked and sounded like someone just died. They would go on and on about their concern and about how "PS4 has no games".

It's alright that they don't care at all for any of the things being announced (or games in general, but I digress), I'm no big fan of Shenmue for instance. But to be fully cynical and snarky about it, and be unable to recognize why these announcements mean great deal to your presumably fellow gamers then that's not very endearing.

I'd rather watch unprofessional people who are still fans of the field they cover and feel enthusiasm for it, than watch unprofessional people (and don't fool yourself believing otherwise) who are snarky, cynical, pessimistic and dismissive of anything that doesn't directly appeal to them.

My sentiments exactly.

The golden years of ign are way past them. Back during the ps2 era were probably the best years for the company imo. Man I loved Fran and Matt holding it down on cube ign. Douglass C. Perry and Jeremy on the ps2.

Brad's been a bit insufferable this week. I have no problem with anyone else at Giant Bomb. If they're not always respectful with their proclamations at least they're funny about it. Brad just can't help but shit in everybody's cereal.

On topic, GT has become a really great place and it's pretty clear that Kyle Bosman has been leading the charge. When his show premiered it was a breath of fresh air in the jaded and cynical world that is video game fandom. Yeah, they may not act with the utmost "professionalism" (lol) when they see something they like, but at least they're being honest about it. 90% of us wouldn't be on this site if, deep down, we weren't still children when it comes to video games.

Just don't listen, trust me its much more enjoyable. :)

Jeff said we did not need another Uncharted I believe.

Regardless, is the panel a hive mind? Do they not have their own opinions, or they allow stupid comments to be made with no conjecture?

I would have been at least, "whoa, whoa, I would not go that far."

No, as someone who have watched more giantbomb content than I care to admit, that was definitely a bradism. He did follow it up with "I still want to play it" I believe.

Also Dan did voice opposition to that view.

It's amazing that I was just thinking about making a topic about this today, GT made this E3 super special for me, I'm still catching up on everything they had it's been so fantastic.

But yeah Huber himself has a show called Huber Hype I seriously recommend you check it out, I can't wait to see the next episode and I hope he makes it all about Shenmue 3.

Yeah the GT coverage was amazeballs.

I just don't understand how those cynical Giant Bummer guys can see stuff like Mario Maker, Just Cause 3, matured VR and Horizon and not be happy.

your sarcasm might be a liiittle too subtle for people that aren't listening to the GB stuff.

It took me a minute to realize the sarcasm in this post.

Huh........ GT use to be my jam, but they lost me around the time I started lurking on gaf (pre membership). Might need to give them another look. Always thought the reviews were good, now it sounds like they've got s genuine cast of characters.

e3 showed me how unprofessional GT is. If I want to watch people talk over a conference, it's for their insight, not for them freaking out over every thing that's slightly exciting.

Glad to see I'm not the only one seeing the light on GB. FWIW i really like Dan, at least he doesn't seem hate EVERYTHING.

Also the same Brad who was fawning over the Uncharted 4 closed door demo he saw the next day? I have the same mindset, Uncharted is tired to me now, but the fact that Brad was excited for it made me excited for it. When you go in hype-mode over everything is gets really one-note.

"we dont need a new uncharted but god damn every time they show it it's something I want to play"

Is a very fuckin sane statement. that's not everyone being jaded, it's a realistic expectation of Naughty Dog making yet another one of those things they've already made 3 of but doing it at the high level you expect.

it's exactly how I felt about Uncharted 4. looks fucking awesome and ill get it one day. if it was never announced, I would have been 100% okay with that.

They obviously did like some of the stuff there, yeah, but even outside of E3 they've definitely been more jaded overall.

The VR talk was interesting, but it still all sounds pretty gimmicky and more of a this might be pretty cool 10 years from now thing. It also doesn't help that you have to use it firsthand before you realize it has any merit at all.

Glad to see I'm not the only one seeing the light on GB. FWIW i really like Dan, at least he doesn't seem hate EVERYTHING.

Kind of odd how low-key Dan was at E3. He barely talked, I was expecting him to be in Unprofessional Friday mode the entire time.

Their E3 coverage was great this year, the only thing I would advise them to look into/change for next time around is to find some way to get the conference audio into their streams while they're watching it. If you're not catching it live, it's a pain to synch them up. Also, having two streams running at the same time is not ideal.

It's because of this very reason I ended up making videos of their entire press conference coverage with the audio added in and uploaded it to youtube. And now I'm getting new subscriber notifications all the time, oddly making me feel like I've accomplished something and giving me stupid ideas about attempting to create a successful youtube channel.

Stop it.

I don't have the time nor the talent to do that.

Prevent this from happening next year please. LOL.

it's like someone lit the bat signal and the entire giantbomb community thread is coming here now. the op didn't even have the words "giant" or "bomb" in it.

Disclaimer: I am only able to speak on the perspective of Giant Bomb content. As a matter of fact, I didn't know GT existed until recently (much like how I didn't know GB existed until the Super Best Friends mentioned them on a podcast...).

I've noticed that a lot of these threads on GT are often turning into a GT/GB debate, and I think it's important to not let that sort of thing happen. Caricatures of both sides are being drawn, and it would be nice if we could clear the air and understand that one can enjoy the content being produced by these two groups without resorting to insults being hurled at strawmen.

GB generally has a more westernized view of games and largely doesn't fall into the JRPG area of interest. This isn't to say that they don't play those games (Brad, for example, has played a great deal of FF games), but it isn't something they're deeply involved with. Understanding this gives perspective, as well as the general attitude of the group, as to why they showed muted reactions to the announcement of these projects.

They are also a group who pays close attention to development histories of projects. While all three of the big announcements were certainly important to fans of those series, they were unfortunately just that. Yes, we did see gameplay of TLG, but it was a very short slice of some basic puzzles and more just confirmed the existence of the project. Shenmue 3 was an announcement of a kickstarter--there was no new gameplay footage, no real information, just a pitch. It's an exciting moment, but there wasn't really a whole lot there unless you were a fan of the previous two games. Finally, FF7, which was a CG trailer.

Exciting, but taken from a veteran's perspective (Jeff has been to every single E3), there is reason to restrain oneself.

People are so strongly focused on these three project reactions that they are choosing to ignore other moments of E3 coverage from GB. Jeff is extremely excited about Mario Maker and the VR games he played. Dan can't wait for VR to really be realized, and was fighting with anxiety during most of E3. Drew, Vinny, and Austin talked about how interesting Horizon looked, and I'm reasonably sure all of them are interesting in whatever the hell Wattam is going to be as well as Just Cause 3.

So perhaps their live reactions weren't amazing, but it's unfair to say that they're "jaded" or "uninterested" in the industry. Just like you and me, they have different tastes, interests, and things that get them giddy. They still have fun, and love the industry they cover.

I still love the site for its entertainment value. I treat it as a video-game-themed comedy show more than anything else. If I came to Giant Bomb seeking groundbreaking insight I would have left a long time ago.

e3 showed me how unprofessional GT is. If I want to watch people talk over a conference, it's for their insight, not for them freaking out over every thing that's slightly exciting.
I'm not sure why you'd say that unless you're discounting the rest of their coverage. Part of the fun of the conferences is reacting to the news. They had fun during the conference and spent plenty of time over the next day's giving insight and debating merits of the reveals.

I honestly prefer the GB format for the press conferences, but I'm not sure you can lambast another site for being Unprofessional. Arguably people could throw the same complaint at the GB after hours show. I think both are great.

That no Man Sky video was pretty good, gotta say thought... The comparison with Minecraft, I don't know... Say what you will about Minecraft, it has a pretty amazing crafting system plus the fact you can molde the world at your will

Not sure if you can't do the same about No Man Sky.... fine, you want to make sandbox, GIVE TOOLS, just like a giant level? that's meaningless.

I know right? We get it, you're fans of Giant Bomb. Why are they coming into every GT thread with a agend?

GT is great I am glad they are getting all this love. The only thing I dislike about GT is the player on their site it's way better to watch their content on youtube.

I've always liked GT, but before E3 I had no idea who Huber was. I now really like him because of his reaction to Snenmue III. I watched his Shenmue II play through last night on YouTube and yeah, he's awesome.

Yeah the GT v GB thing is probably the dumbest thing I've read. I've never been a fan, but dipped into GB here and there and I don't see anything wrong with any of their reactions. They don't gel with me so it's not my goto site, but every thread I read it feels like there's a bunch of people who are scorned lovers over what Giant Bomb did to them by not reacting.

It's been several days, get over it. I'm sure divorce court will handle the particulars.

Yeah, I'll echo the thoughts of what some others have been saying - this was refreshing. You don't have be cynical and pessimistic about every single thing that happens in the industry. Seeing raw and true emotions spill-over is awesome, and was a huge reason why these announcements were so exciting.

The only "freak outs" were about three of the BIGGEST MEGATONS EVER that they have all been dreaming of for the entire last decade. It was like finding 3 Unicorns! They certainly did not freak out over "every little thing that's slightly exciting" and I don't know how you could jump to that conclusion.

I learn how to temper my excitement so that I'm not disappointed when something comes out. I'm interested to see how FF7R and Shenmue 3 will be, but I'm not going to start jumping off the wall.

That's cool and reasonable, but surely you understand why others might react differently? I have no connection to Shenmue, but I can understand how happy and super excited someone might react to seeing that announcement.

How about if you aren't a fan of any of those games/series? Giant Bomb sold me on VR, Mario Maker and Horizon this E3. Seriously, take a look at Dan describing his Oculus demo and tell me they're jaded. Maybe they're just not blindly in love with re-releases and throwbacks to games/franchises they played over a decade ago and didn't care much for then?

They weren't excited about the thing!

Why would I watch your show if you aren't throwing candy and confetti at me when the thing comes on?!

I was introduced to these guys just days ago when I saw their reaction videos to the FF7 and Shenmue announcements. I started watching some of the their livestream coverage later and, yeah, I'm totally a fan of theirs now.

I do think the whole GT vs. GB thing is a little ridiculous though. I still like Giant Bomb just as much as I did before I started watching Game Trailers stuff. It isn't like everyone needs to pick one or the other and seeing all this trash talk makes me kind of sad. :(

Don't know why this had to turn into a GB vs GT thing, but I think its cool to see people have different opinions and reactions to things.

And this whole "jaded" thing needs to stop. People should understand the difference between jaded and skepticism. Considering people seem to have the biggest problem with their reactions to a game stuck in development hell, a remake by a company known for their extremely long dev cycles, and a KS for a sequel to a really old game, I don't think being skeptical of that and most of the sony conference should be taken negatively or "they're just jaded."

Heaven forbid someone be excited about a game they've been dreaming about for years. I *wish* I could be that excited for video games again.

They gave me douchechills, actually. I rarely get embarrassed for other people, but I literally had to switch to another stream when I saw how they were acting. I mean jesus, I'm sure they were hamming it up for the stream but it still felt corny as shit.
