Disclaimer: I am only able to speak on the perspective of Giant Bomb content. As a matter of fact, I didn't know GT existed until recently (much like how I didn't know GB existed until the Super Best Friends mentioned them on a podcast...).
I've noticed that a lot of these threads on GT are often turning into a GT/GB debate, and I think it's important to not let that sort of thing happen. Caricatures of both sides are being drawn, and it would be nice if we could clear the air and understand that one can enjoy the content being produced by these two groups without resorting to insults being hurled at strawmen.
GB generally has a more westernized view of games and largely doesn't fall into the JRPG area of interest. This isn't to say that they don't play those games (Brad, for example, has played a great deal of FF games), but it isn't something they're deeply involved with. Understanding this gives perspective, as well as the general attitude of the group, as to why they showed muted reactions to the announcement of these projects.
They are also a group who pays close attention to development histories of projects. While all three of the big announcements were certainly important to fans of those series, they were unfortunately just that. Yes, we did see gameplay of TLG, but it was a very short slice of some basic puzzles and more just confirmed the existence of the project. Shenmue 3 was an announcement of a kickstarter--there was no new gameplay footage, no real information, just a pitch. It's an exciting moment, but there wasn't really a whole lot there unless you were a fan of the previous two games. Finally, FF7, which was a CG trailer.
Exciting, but taken from a veteran's perspective (Jeff has been to
every single E3), there is reason to restrain oneself.
People are so strongly focused on these three project reactions that they are choosing to ignore other moments of E3 coverage from GB. Jeff is extremely excited about Mario Maker and the VR games he played. Dan can't wait for VR to really be realized, and was fighting with anxiety during most of E3. Drew, Vinny, and Austin talked about how interesting Horizon looked, and I'm reasonably sure all of them are interesting in whatever the hell Wattam is going to be as well as Just Cause 3.
So perhaps their live reactions weren't amazing, but it's unfair to say that they're "jaded" or "uninterested" in the industry. Just like you and me, they have different tastes, interests, and things that get them giddy. They still have fun, and love the industry they cover.
