I'm not sure if the proportions are bad or if the perspective makes them look bad. Regardless that happens, being a good artist doesn't mean you're good at everything art-wise. Furthermore I don't have a problem with the nipple as it was probably added to further emphasize the breast to make it abundantly clear that the character was a woman, I know if I were drawing the picture I'd worry about making her too androgynous, or it's sex appeal regardless it's art and doesn't really matter.
Finally, I actually don't like the way Samus looks in Prime, I don't really care for ultra-realistic characters rendered in a game as they come out looking ugly and the younger softer, sometimes anime, complexion works better overall with all of Nintendo's characters. Also I'm playing through the Prime games right now and I love them, Samus is so cool.

Just look at this badass pic of Samus about to fight Thardus, she is so FUCKING BADASS she even waits for Thardus to pick himself up, even then she is not impressed, she just raises her armcannon at him, no self dialogue needed, bitch got in my way, bitch is gonna fucking regret it.
I loved the mistery sorrounding her, and what little we knew about her was enough, I didn't need to know about her daddy issues and her caring for a fucking baby metroid.

Ditto. The bending is slight and more or less natural with some room for stylish exaggeration. In Samus's case from SMB and that retro-style pic, it's bent at a completely ridiculous and unnatural angle. It's very common in comic book pose, but then so is the spine twisting... just a pet peeve of mine. You can see many more of these here:

Though to be fair, it's hardly the most problematic thing about their pose/anatomy... XD And at least I suppose I should be glad her legs aren't Subway-sandwiched, haha.

This thread honestly contains some of the worst fan art I have ever seen. Why many of you seem to like these atrocious depictions of Samus is beyond me. All I can say is thank God none of you nor the artists behind these pictures will ever have any effect on how Samus will look in the actual games.

Did a really quick mock-up using your proportions, I think it shows an obvious improvement:
Not to take away from this artist's talent, as he does good work in other areas, he just needs to brush up on anatomy. And also, there's a difference between exaggerated anatomy and incorrect anatomy.

The shitty/creepy/sick/disturbing stuff far outweighs the artistic stuff.
Aside from the awkward looking boob with the rock hard nipple i like the art.
The boob immediately stuck out to me and looked extremely awkward and now the arm does to.
Still, aside from this it's still exceptional work. I couldn't draw anything 1/1000000000000000000th as good as this.

the dog represents fertility, and the combination of the nude courtesan's pose, wetnurse and dog is meant to illustrate a wife's marital duties, both sexual and child-bearing, to her husband. it was a gift from the duke of urbino to his wife, who was about 14-15 years old, with whom he had been married to for a few years.

Haha, cool! Yeah the artist is really talented and I don't mean to disrespect his work. But the anatomy can be very distracting sometimes and it's just such a shame when everything else looks so fantastic.
For fun I did a quick re-edit of your mockup and resized her head, arm cannon and shoulders so they're a bit more proportional. I think it looks much more natural now. But as you said, the artist clearly has a distinct style so he might've went for that exaggerated look on purpose.

This isn't some Rob Liefield shit yet everyone is trying to rip it apart for something that doesn't detract from the artwork in my opinion. Also I didn't use "then do it yourself", I simply meant if you don't like it then go draw one that you will like, instead of trying to tear this one apart with hyperbolic arguments (not saying you made any personally) for no apparent reason. Sure you think the proportions (or pose?) look awkward, but the dude I quoted specifically said the head was two times larger than it should be, that's just straight up silly.
I'm not knocking your argument but I do disagree with it, the guy that did the piece didn't do some outlandish looking weird proportions/pose. At the same time I find the quick mock up you did to look rather sterile and bland (given the pose) and it's not like you have armor to go with yours like the one in the OP. Besides not everything has to have perfect lifelike proportions to be considered good artwork. Do you nitpick all of the shots of Samus in her armor given that she'd have to have awkward proportions there? For example her shoulders being broader than any males or the incredibly V shaped torso? I mean look at that screencap from one of the Prime games posted above.
