This is why people don't do good deeds anymore

I fear this will happen to me eventually on one of my regular neighborhood walks with my PS3.
Lawl!

Good luck, CowboyAstronaut. Hopefully it'll work out and we'll all learn a little something from the experience.

I learned that from The Sims. The burgler would come into my house and grab my TV. Then the police would snag him in the living room.

And my TV would be gone forever... ;_;

:lol :lol Post of the thread!!!!

I would think if I knew all the kids involved, I would just have gotten the PS3 and taken it back to the kid who got his ass kicked. I wouldn't have gotten the cops involved at all. It just seems like a simple matter that the cops didn't need to get involved in at all.

Kids have fights, it happens and always will happen. No need to get the cops involved in something like that, unless someone stabbed or shot someone.

I feel sorry for the OP if the story is actually as he says it is. But wherever he lives, his police operate alot differently than where I live.

Please.

True story-
but totally off topic for gaming.

When I was 13 my friends bike got stolen from my apt while we were upstairs using the phone. We searched and searched and searched and finally called the cops. Cop takes report, leaves.

Later that week at school, we saw a kid riding the bike (this was a custom bmx job my friends uncle had assembled piece by piece). We called my friends mom and she told us to talk to one of the cops in the substation in the school. The kid ditched school before lunch but we knew who he was. We went to his house (a block away from my friends place) after school and the kids dad said he was gone. We split up and went to all the places we knew him to frequent and I stumbled upon the bike, in the process of the kids stripping it. I took everything back and went back home.

We met back up and called my friends parents, his dad showed up and we called the cops so they could go and question the kids stripping the bike. I got a citation for receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit burglary. It was straight bullshit. The county attorney dropped the charges and told me to "let the police do their jobs". The cops wouldn't have found, or done shit - as we did ALL the work.

Moral of the story?

Don't ever call the fucking cops
, unless you are a woman and your husband is beating the shit out of you...

It sounds like typical gaf off-topic discussion (which I try to avoid at all costs). Great way to slip the usual junk off-topic stuff into the gaming section, though.

And, yes, I believe it's made up. I suppose the original kid could have stolen the PS3 from one of the four. They told him to return it or get his ass kicked. So he did and they still kicked it. That would explain why the kid didn't wanna finger the original four since all five would then be in hot water. But the story has more holes than swiss cheese.

EDIT: Why am I such a prick about this? Who walks around with a PS3 in their hands?

Yeah, I don't know what the cops were thinking. They should've assigned at least 2 detectives to your case and sent out a BOLO to all their units for a 13-year-old kids bike.

Yeah the fact that you got cited is a bit bullshit - but seriously - you sound bitter that the cops didn't think finding your bike was the most important thing to them. Are you really ignorant enough to believe that the police should prioritize a stolen bike over the other crap they have to do? Contrary to popular belief - cops usually tend to do a lot more than just hand out speeding tickets all day.

You're probably right though. Had you not done something yourself to get your bike back - they probably wouldn't have found your bike. But to imply that the police are worthless is stupid.

Fishy? If you say so, but parents ftw!?

I think so.

3 out of the 4 kid's parents came to my defense regarding the matter and are supporting my side of the story. They all brought their kids down to the precinct willingly and from there called me up and by the time I had got up there each kid was made to tell the truth about who was actually involved and why it happened in the first place. The one kid's father I was telling you guys about called up the other parents for me telling them what his son and their kids were involved in and that I was the one wrongfully receiving the blame for something their kids did. He pretty much told them plain and simple, if they don't come forward about it and bring their kids up there to tell the truth about what happened, he's bringing his son up there regardless and he will tell the truth and give names. Although he told them that it wasn't really necessary since they planned to bring their kids down there to tell the truth anyway.

So now the cops know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, I wasn't the one involved and oh there is also now a tiny matter of dealing with the prick who knowingly made a false accusation since the 3 kids that beat him up told the cops the kid knew exactly who did it to him and if he was accusing someone else he was lying.

Oh and one more very important detail and this is where the whole thing gets even better. The PS3 doesn't belong to any of the 5 kids involved, including the kid that got beat up. They stole it earlier in the day from somewhere else. Who the hell knows where cause I didn't get those details and I don't care to know, but I'm in the clear because I simply thought I was returning the PS3 to the person who originally had it stolen from them. Meaning this kid made 2 false police reports in a single day.

The initial one where he went to the precinct claiming the PS3 was his and it was stolen from him and obviously the lie about me being one of people that beat him up.

Revenge is a dish best served cold :lol I would just love to see the look on the kid's face and his parents right about now, but no such luck ;)

I'm glad to see everything worked out in your favor. I'm sorry for what you had to put up with. You're a good man and you will sleep better at nights knowing that. Fuck everyone here that doubts your story, your actions or your morals. You did more than 90% of this world would do and I salute you for that.

Seriously, you let kids rough the little twat for his PS3 and you don't even help him out, but you turn into more of a wuss and go to a police station. Now who the hell goes to a police station nowadays??? Then that lilttle twat frames your ass as one of the suspects and you end up getting arrested.

Now, you decide to sue them, but you're insecure and then decide to tell on one of the suspect's dad. Addtionally, you glorify the suspects father as some godly figure that'll help your ass out.

You know what will be funny if the father accuses you for the incident and the cops take you to jail.

Honestly, grow some balls, man.

You've seriously got to be kidding me. 1. I don't know too many people outside of The Goddamn Batman who can take on 3 assailants by themselves and he was doing the right thing, there's no need for him to risk personal injury. He did more than you probably ever would have. 2. In today's day and age, getting into a physical altercation in the US will more than likely get you shot. Go fuck yourself and your moronic ways.

If you feel that strongly, why the fuck are you even here in the post? Stick to posts you care about. PS3 involved. Sounds gaming related to me.

Anyway, the question on my mind after its all been resolved. How can the parents not know their son doesn't own a $400 gaming system? I'm a parent of 2 and know everything my kids have. If one of my children came to me and said we need to go to the police station because someone has my PS3 that was stolen from me, I'd be questioning where the hell he got a system like that.

Being a junior member I am obliged to be mildly upset at the lack of funny cat pictures in the thread so far.

Also, being a nerd (with cable), I am all excited about seeing the new Galactica episode tonight. I can hardly wait to see how it will annoy and disappoint me!

I didn't just call the cops I was likely the very first person to call the cops. I went to the kid personally and was asking him if he was alight after it all happened. I didn't stay there to meet the cops though because I had other things I had to attend to.

You couldn't wait around for the cops to show up at the scene because you had things to do, yet you had the time to find out which of their houses they took the PS3 to, talk to one of the kid's cousin, retrieve the PS3, and take it to the police station? Makes perfect sense.

Its this mentality that has made today's world fucked up. No one wants to be a good samaritan anymore because they're too afraid of puss out consequences and how they'll look in the public eye. Additionally, people dont do anything because now everyone sues over the smallest most inconsequential bullshit and THEY WIN. Why put your neck out there when some judge with a fucked up interpretation of the law awards the rest of your natural born life to a fuckjob that was in the wrong?

Its way too late for anything to change, but if a few people here and there started doing good things for other people, the world would be a better place as a whole. And I'm not talking swooping in and saving the day, I'm talking simple things for example. Get rid of road rage in traffic and let someone merge in front of you. And to the fucknut that just got let in, throw a simple fucking wave back in thanks at the person who was kind enough to do it. Too many people feel entitled to things just because they exist and it just perpetuates the hate and attitude.

And actually, I'm gonna stop right now because with everything in my mind right now, I can feel this could grow into an epic post about things wrong with society and we all know that we as a people fail miserably, so no sense in beating a dead horse.

It took about 2 and a half hours maybe 3 at best out of my day for today, but it was well worth it.

Schwowsers if I was busy at the time and had something I needed to take care of isn't it perfectly understandable I didn't have the time to stay there until the cops arrived? This incident did happen in broad daylight with other people around so my presence wasn't exactly required there especially since I had explained everything to the cops when I called them on the phone.

It wasn't until later that I decided it would be wrong for me to not do something about the situation especially when I knew as much as I did about the people involved. It didn't immediately occur to me that I would go that far, but later on I decided if there was anything I could do to help then I should do just that. I would probably feel like shit leaving it as is.

All things considered, I feel I did the right thing.

Joe, you are wrong for thinking that that is how police procedure would work. You dont divulge anything over the phone. you call up, ask for a meeting and if the person (in this case the dad) resists then there are other measure such as warrants to make them come for questioning.

You watch too many cartoons and play too many video games if you really think your script is accurate.

I don't believe this story at all. Especially the last part about the PS3 not even being his. Parents know what shit their kids have, if the PS3 wasn't his, his mom would've said something when they got there. Parents know what kind of shit their kids have. That combined with the cops just handing the PS3 back and all the other holes that have probably been brought up. Grade A Bullshit.

edit: In before, "Oh, and the story gets even BETTER! He already had a PS3 and he had to hide it from his parents so they would think IT WAS STOLEN!!! BELIEVE ME! PAY ME ATTENTION!"

edit #2: And the inadvertent, "SWEET, the Police Station couldn't find the original owner so they just called me and decided that I should be the one to get it because of my good deed."

Not every parent is responsible and every family is run the way your family is run. I live near a trailer park and have heard of much more fucked up shit, some parents just don't step up and ask questions until the police are involved.

I really don't see what the TC would gain from fabricating a story like this, infact that sounds about as senseless as how you feel about the original story.
