I'm just glad that we'll soon be seeing/hearing somehting new about White Knight Chronicles. And of course of The Last Remnant also.

The fact they are struggling with the Wii. not the game itself.

I don't think their struggles with the game have anything to do with the hardware itself...
Hopefully they're struggling because they're trying to design a good game for once.

How far off do we think this game is?

not this year definitely. knowing SE i'd say about late 2009/early 2010. FFXIII is going to be SE main focus next year so they wouldnt release any other big RPGs around its release
date.

so if FFXIII comes out early 2009 they might put out SO4 the second half of 2009.

there's something damaged about wanting to follow these games ages before they're released in Japan, or even announced for NA. anticipating something like Fragile, which we heard about a long time ago and is now 30% done with no announced localization yet?

really. it's not a problem. i can stop whenever i want.

c'mon king story!

Yeah, possible SE release schedules are getting to be hard to guess at. They're beginning to really bunch up on themselves in terms of proposed releases with all of the push-backs, yet none of the titles seem ready to begin a full marketing pitch, so I can't quite figure out what's occupying the early portions.

Option 1
Summer 08 - Infinite Undiscovery
Fall 08 - Last Remnant
Winter 08 - Dragon Quest IX
Spring 09 - Final Fantasy XIII
Summer 09 - Kingdom Hearts Portables
Fall 09 - Star Ocean 4

Option 2
Fall 08 - Infinite Undiscovery
Winter 08 - Dragon Quest IX
Spring 09 - Last Remnant
Summer 09 - Kingdom Hearts Portables
Fall 09 - Final Fantasy XIII
Spring 10 - Star Ocean 4

Option 2 is probably more realistic.

Of course, DQIX might also get pushed. Hard to say.

FFXIII is not coming out early 2009, if anything Q3 2009 the earliest, but I think it will be sometime in Q4 2009.

Errrrr, I hope those are guesses at the US releases. Because otherwise.... lol.

Hm. Nope. They were guesses at Japan.

What would you estimate the schedule as?

edit: btw - I'm talking calendar year, not fiscal (just to be clear)

More Star Ocean 4 details:

This comes despite a bunch of new details being disclosed in the magazine, including the first two cast members. Star Ocean 4 features a hero named Edge Maverick and a heroine named Reimi Saionji. From what we gather, these two have been friends since childhood.

We don't have too many story details at the point, but fans of the series should take note of one important fact. Star Ocean 4 is actually a prequel. It takes place before Star Ocean 1 as warp drives first come into being and humans take their first steps into space. Speaking with the magazine, the game's developers actually admitted wanting to originally call the game "Star Ocean 0."

Fans can expect to note a few connections with part 1 in the series. The developers suggested that players play through that game. If you find a certain person who makes you think he'll make an appearance in Star Ocean 4, he probably will.

The magazine also gave a few hints at some of the gameplay aspects of the title. Expectedly, you will have a party. The number of characters you can make into allies is at the level as in Star Ocean 3. The game's battle system will be similar to past titles, offering players real time control over one character while the computer AI operates other party members.

Outside of this, it seems that there may be some sort of network functionality included. Nothing is set, but the developers are currently considering a few things.

your option 2 would be my guess as well.

that's why i said if :)

it would really surprise me if SO4 came out before FFXIII but I dont know about SE these days.

"Infinite Undiscovery? ... What the fuck does that even mean?!"

to me infinite means forever or always and undiscovery mean not finding or losing something so "never discovering"?

Fragile (Wii)

- The direction the game is aiming for is a mix of light novels and tense horror
- 30% complete

BLAZING HOT

In the United States? That seems reasonable.

No. I'm talking about Japan here, last we heard on the progress of the game they said it was "13% complete" (not sure how well they've progressed since then), even if Square Enix go hardcore on this, this year at the most they'll get 60% done. Thats why i feel late 2009 is appropriate. Beside if Yoichi Wada is an honest man, he'll see through a world wide simultaneous release :)

that's why i said if :)

I was just generally noting.

SO4 looks great. Nice character art too.

I'm beginning to doubt tri-Ace has much to do with VP DS actually. :/

Why? They're developing it. How much more can they have to do with it?

I really don't get why it's called Valkyrie Profile when it seems to be isometric. It just seems weird that there's still no Profile view in sight.

- Interview with Katou, the coproducer of VP Lenneth and SO1 PSP
This part also bothers me. Is this a tri-Ace staff member? I thought tri-Ace had nothing to do with the PSP games?

And the game still hasn't shown up on their products page.

-- IU coverage is quite disappointing. :(

You don't play as a Valkyrie either. Hey money > logic!

I love how this is a prequel, hopefully they retcon the stupid SO3 plot :lol And hopefully it will be more sci-fi than medieval, but we'll see. The trailer already looks wonderful and I'm a hardcore tri-Ace fanboy so this should be one to watch... even if it's PS3 exclusive I'll be buying one just for SO4, just like I bought a PS2 when SO3 was announced for it.

Right, so my point was that given that timeframe chances are very good development has already started and that platform has been decided.

These are business; there not going to throw away time and money spent in development based on small changes in userbase.

If they've begun development, they've chosen the platform(s) and are simply withholding the information.

I think that Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is the name of VP1 now, since 2 was called Silmeria. Don't think means the psp version.

Star Ocean 4 is soooo coming out before FFXIII. :P
If Star Ocean 4 is on the PS3 I don't see why they would release it before FFXIII provides the PS3 with a decent sized JRPG userbase. Releasing it before FFXIII on the PS3 will have an effect on the sales, imo.

If it's for the Xbox 360 then I can see it being released before FFXIII.

Either way, the Star Ocean 4 scans look nice but I care more for Valkyrie Profile DS. :D

I wouldn't get carried away by the Vanillaware's Wii title statement, most (all?) developers come to a point where they are having a hard time developing the game, in most cases they overcome it and slove it

Because Valkyrie Profile sounds better than Valkyrie Isometric?

No, I'm pretty sure he's Enix. Incidentally, the co-producer in question, Wataru Katou, is also credited under "special thanks" for Radiata Stories and Valkyrie Profile 2.

Meanwhile, the producer he served under for VP:L and the Star Ocean remakes was Yoshinori Yamagishi, who also served as producer for the original Star Ocean, for Star Ocean 2, Blue Sphere, Star Ocean 3, Valkyrie Profile, Valkyrie Profile 2, and Radiata Stories. He handled a few DQ games as well.

They're both Enix people who are responsible for overseeing work by outside developers in general, but have mostly done production work for tri-Ace games. I don't know how much one can really gauge from Katou's involvement since whether tri-Ace is making the game or whether someone else is making it under tri-Ace's supervision, there are still going to be Enix producers involved.

Some news on other titles:

Last Ramnent - There will be news on this soon

White Knight Story - The next news blow out will reveal a ton about the game contents

Vanillaware's Wii title - Struggling in development

The three games I actually want news on :(. Vanillaware's title is struggling, NOOOOOOOOOO!

well, I never got the Final Fantasy name either. there are 13 FFs :o, so much for Final.

Very nice, though I'm still fishing around for some of the remaining scans. I really like the prequel premise.

Final Fantasy XIII? I think right now we have absolutely no idea when we should expect it coming out. Until we get some actual new indication, it could be coming out in 2008, it could be coming out in 2010.

Lame post is lame

and wrong

EDIT: I wonder if they will move it to a different platform if they have too much trouble or cancel it altogether.

(Not so) Final (After All) Fantasy XIII.

If they have problems on Wii, they're gonna spit blood on PS360. ._.

I'm assuming that you actually know the story and that you're just making fun of the poster above you :lol

I propose we call VP DS: Vakyrie Isometric from now on >.>
