TITANFALL 2 | Single Player Vision Dev Diary - Seriously, where's the hype on GAF?

Is anyone going PC or is that likely not a worthwhile purchase (because of player base drying up)?

PC guy here.

yeah im not denying that

but some of these posts itt make it feel like a witch hunt.

must be the cool thing to shit on a game that hasn't even come out yet

Agreed. Not sure I get why anyone would almost rather root for a game to be bad. Seems like everyone would want every game to be as good as possible.

I'm super pumped. Loved the beta (minus so oddly placed walls that put you out of bounds unexpectedly) and it's more of everything I loved about 1. Some people seem salty about the rodeo change but I think it'll be good for the game.

I assume people would provide their perspective of the game in a thread specifically asking why there was a lack of hype.

Must just be a witch hunt though.

Pre-beta - TOTAL HYPE

Post-beta - ZERO hype

Pre-lauch - Cautiously optimistic because of the single player talk

Really wish this was part of the EA Access trial program. I'm willing to part with the $60, but not before reviews are out due to the beta.

I will say, since the multiplayer fell flat in the beta, pivoting and focusing on the singleplayer was a smart move. Doom showed that a great singleplayer campaign can overcome a mediocre multiplayer mode and still allow people to feel like they got their $60 of game.

Now they just need to deliver an amazing single player campaign. If it turns out it is, they have my money.

What if I told you that overall consumer spending on videogames is so overwhelmingly concentrated in Q4 that it by far outweighs any concern of an AAA release being "buried" by other big titles?

I'm not a big fan of this reason because a few games get the vast majority of sales. In 2015 it was GTA 5, Black Ops 3, Madden, Fallout 4, and Battlefront. All the other holiday release games were blips, like Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Tomb Raider, Need for Speed, and even Halo 5.

Witcher 3 released in May 2015 and went on to sell over 10m copies. Overwatch released in May 2016 and has sold over 20m copies. The Division launched in March 2016 and sold over 10m copies.

Sure, I can understand the strategic reason EA is pushing this out now, to offer something for everyone - BF1 for the more big battle, old school loadout crowd and Titanfall for the guns in space crowd, but I think once the dust settles we will see Titanfall 2 not even chart in top 5 for Nov NPD and thats a real shame.

As a reminder, Nov releases are:

Titanfall 2 (Oct 28th)
Skyrim SE (Oct 28th)
Infinite Warfare
Dishonored 2
Watch Dogs 2
Pokemon Sun & Moon
Final Fantasy 15
Assassins Creed Ezio Collection

christ, i was going to ask you to explain that one to me but ya know i won't even bother anymore. It seems if you aren't selling on all 3 platforms you're just a "blip" now.

And the worst part about if Titanfall doesn't chart like you expect is that we'll get tons and tons of posts about it "being a failure" and a bunch of people hooting and hollering about it as if it brings them joy no matter if the game is absolutely fucking amazing.

We're headed to some seriously dark times in gaming with these types of mentalities that are perpetuating all over the place.

agreed

it's sad and pathetic

i really hope mods can crack down on that type of behavior

wishing and taking pleasure in a game potentially failing? get out of here

They really should put it on EA/Origin Access. I want it. But I'm already busy with Forza, Gears, and soon Battlefield. Titanfall and CoD may lose out.

I never played the beta. I would love to be able to try it. The first one was excellent. I'll probably play a bunch of Battlefield and then try it out sometime later in the holiday season.

I think it is mostly a matter of poor timing. Having it come out right in between BF and COD is basically the worst release date you could pick for this game all year. Each game will be different enough, but nobody is going to have time for all three of them. Maybe it will exceed expectations, but even COD didn't really blow up until the fourth game, and that franchise had more logical platform releases from the get go.

A lot of good will was lost with the tech test.

I like the changes they've made since, but I still think it could've used a delay to iron out some the things that people disliked.

Also the Gears/Battlefield/Infinite Warfare/ Modern Warfare cluster its launching in the middle of doesn't help.

Still buying it, but might wait until the 10th, wanna play it on my PS4 Pro and I've got my hands more than full with like a dozen games and PSVR right now. Not to mention I haven't finished Deus Ex yet.

The technical test killed my hype while simultaneously rekindling my love for the first game. There were some things fixed in the second week, but a lot of changes from the original that I disliked were too far gone to be fixed in two months. I've never had a game go from Day 1 purchase to not ever considering it so fast.

It's got one shot left when I Redbox it at launch.

This is pretty much my sentiment as well.

All they had to to do was reskin the first game with some new weapons and Titans. Not tear everything down and start from scratch.

I dunno, difficult to get hyped for a game where the second iteration is selling me singleplayer while the first didn't. I'll reserve my hype for when it's out and the reviews are in.

Gotta say that vid doc hyped me up a little more.

The whole Bodies disappearing 5 seconds after you shoot them kind of breaks my immersion a bit though. And the boss intro dialogue from the last trailer seemed a bit out of pace. (Seemed right out of Starfox 64 or Armored Core 2)

Like many, the tech test dramatically lowered my hype (like from the game I was looking towards the most this year to a purchase that feels like an obligation just because of how much I liked the first one).

However, Titanfall 1 did earn this game a fair shake in my book, so hopefully everything comes together one way or another. Or at the very least, the single player is really good and makes up for the lost cohesion in multiplayer if my feelings for the tech test continue in the full game.

I'm still hyped for the sp as it looks like there trying some cool things with it. Multiplayer is heart breaking though. It felt so flat and boring compared to the original that it was like 2 was the first game and the original was a sequal. I don't understand how they got it so wrong.

The Tech Test sucked and the campaign isn't going to sell me on the game. Gears turning out so well did not do the games any favor either. I already have my great shoot bang for the holidays.

I don't mind being proved right, so if the game 'fails' because of a combination of Respawn's weird design decisions for the Tech Test (and presumably the final game, as they defended their decisions) and EA's horrendous release date I'll take pleasure in predicting it.

The tech test was a pretty big let down but it seems they have done quite a lot of changes. Hopefully we'll see more of that in the future. Me and my friends who played a ton of Titanfall 1 are gonna get 2 as well anyway. Also, I think the singleplayer looks great.

On why there isn't hype? The Tech test was lacklustre. The timing of this release is bad. The design choices went straight against what made Titanfall good in the first place. The changes sound good but how many will actually care? The mainstream crowd probably forgot after the tech test and is jumping on BF1 or CoD anyway.

I want this franchise to succeed but they've shot themselves in the foot here. I was silently hoping for a delay to Spring.

I like what I'm seeing in more recent builds and I'm sure they'll keep making the game better. They have made a bunch of changes, but the tech test left a bad impression. Not sure if it will remain active any longer than Titanfall.

The devs lost any good will with me. The way they responded to criticisms was mostly like "we listened to fans but we felt this was better"

I had more fun with BF1 then I did TF2 but more fun with TF2 then COD:IW.

BF1 is a for sure thing. I'll most likely get TF2 and if it turns out that COD has an incredible SP I might rent it.

TF2 is just so fast and I am so slow.

I feel like Battlefield 1 killed alot of my hype for TF2 - It just feels alot more fun compared to what i saw from the technical test.

Really looking forward to the single player now, in addition to the multiplayer. With Gears, Battlefield and this, I'm pretty well set on shooters for a bit!

what are you talking about? they adjusted a bunch of stuff lol.

people that probably barely played the first game complaining about a tech test that showed less than a third of what the game has to offer is pretty goddamn hilarious, seriously. it's the same type of jumping the gun we got when the first game came out. i'm sure this will be no different. a year or two after release this forum will be lit with how awesome titanfall 2 is and how people "didn't understand"

same old.

Dude I'm convinced you're a shill for Respawn so don't respond to me anymore. Every response you made in the beta thread was "ALL OF THE ELITE PLAYERS IN THE FIRST GAME DID THIS" and "NO ONE HERE PLAYED THE FIRST GAME FOR MORE THAN A FEW HOURS."

Just stop posting in TF2 threads. We get it.

Would probably have bought it if there wern't so many other games comeing around this time. Forza, Gears of war 4, Battlefield 1, Dark souls 3 DLC + university.

Get hyyyyyped!!!!!

Also, this game's lack of said on hype on GAF is really starting to concern me :(

Very much hyped. Lets go baymax!!!

It makes me sad that my copy is going to sit on my shelf for 12.5 days before I can play it (on the Pro). You all better not get too good to fight against!

I'm looking forward to it. The technical test damped my excitement a bit, as well as the fact that there's just too many MP games for me right now.

Curious to see what they do with the campaign.

I saw TitanFall.....and like most people forgot about it two months later.

The sequel would need to do something major to make me care.

Titanfall 1 amazed me with the reveal trailer and later cemented my day one purchase with the season pass with the beta.

This game's beta was not a good look for what I expected out of the game and with dev comments on how they are designing the multiplayer is worrisome. I'll wait for reviews on this one.

Is anyone going PC or is that likely not a worthwhile purchase (because of player base drying up)?

I honestly wanted to but no tech test and early origin access trail made me cancel my pre-order. I'll see what the general opinion about the game is before jumping in myself.

Terrible beta killed hype.

RIP Titanfall 2. Put down before it even rose.

You jump on that bandwagon you rebel you!

Someone more clever than me needs to come up with a funny and ironic OP title thread using this ridiculous "but the beta" bandwagon

It's a bummer but the Tech Test killed a lot of hype for people. I'm still pretty hyped (that pilot trailer got me going again) but I can understand why many just don't feel it anymore. Game has changed a lot of things people loved about the 1st.

Are you real? There are times when I'm just not sure anymore.

Would someone who doesn't like the fast death rate of twitch shooters like CoD enjoy Titanfall 2?

I guess not. Time to kill isn´t much higher in TF2 than it is in CoD.

You´d be better off playing something like Destiny, which has a very high time to kill in PvP.

I don't know how much this will affect the TTK in Titanfall 2, but in Titanfall the movement increased the effective TTK. And don't forget the titans. They have a high TTK.
