Titanfall PC Performance Thread

AMD R9 270X
AMD FX 8320
8GB ram
Repost from the Titanfall thread, anyone having this problem?:

This game is horribly optimized for AMD hardware, FX 8320 with an R9 270X. I've tried different combinations, all low, medium or high, at 1080p and 720p and I STILL get fps drops to between 30-45 in some specific maps or when there's chaos, temps are fine btw. Doesn't make sense, for comparison this is the worst game in terms of fps drops I've run in my pc yeah I know it's not that bad if it only drops to 30 but WHY?
Does sound like you're CPU limited. The game is probably not particularly well parallelized, so the relatively low per-thread performance of your AMD CPU bytes you in the ass in challenging scenarios. Captain hindsight would say that you should have listened to our PC suggestions thread.

I put settings on high & have smooth framerate but I'm getting N64-quality textures on everything.

AMD Radeon APU 3.40 GHz
8GB RAM

I played 4 or 5 matches last night max settings 8xMSAA on the latest NVIDIA Titanfall ready drivers:

i7 4700K 4.5Ghz
GTX 780
16GB RAM

I didn't have any stuttering and the game was locked at 60fps in game - the only drops I saw was drops into the 50s as I first dropping into the game, I presume there's some loading going on there but it quickly gets to 60fps before I actually start playing and stays there.

Happy with the performance of the game.

I think that beta is better than final game. Triple buffering option is not there now and performance is a bit lower.

Titanfall needs a big patch to fix all performance/stutter/multigpu problems. Technically is 8 years old, so must run flawesly.

Word. SLI scaling seems borked in this game. Thankfully they're working in fixing it, my other titan is barely doing anything.

Try these nvidia inspector settings:

SLI compatibility bits (DX1x): 0x000000F5
Power managment mode: Prefer maximum performance
Vertical Sync: Force off
Number of GPUs to use on SLI rendering mode: SLI_GPU_COUNT_TWO
NVIDIA predefined number of GPUs to use on SLI rendering mode on DirectX 10: SLI_PREDEFINED_GPU_COUNT_DX10_TWO
NVIDIA predefined SLI mode on DirectX 10: SLI_PREDEFINED_MODE_DX10_FORCE_SFR
SLI rendering mode: SLI_RENDERING_MODE_FORCE_SFR

Atrocious performance on my hardware.

i5 2500k
GTX 570 (only 1.25 gigs of VRAM)

I tested this with FRAPS last night - even with every single setting turned to LOW, no MSAA, I cannot maintain 60 frames on most levels. Mission 2 in campaign (with the rain) is a good example of 45 FPS all the time. Jumping in a Titan regardless of level is a guaranteed 5-10 frame hit.

Very frustrating considering how hideous the game looks on low - I really don't recommend that. But even on medium I thought my rig would be able to get a smooth 60. When I do get to 60 frames on smaller levels, the game stutters out the ass, and I've tried using borderless fullscreen and forcing vsync/adaptive through the control panel. Drivers are also up to date.

Either my hardware is way out of date or this game is incredibly unoptimized.

This, I have similar issues. Although I understand its not the same thing, but I can play Tomb Raider on Max with TressFX with frame between 30-60 but Titanfall plays like ass. I will wait for a patch/driver updates.

I have my settings at 1080p, Very High textures (haven't tried insane but heard I can't because my card is only 2gb frame buffer), and 2xMSAA. Everything else set to highest settings.

I normally easily stay between 50-60fps, but occasionally especially on maps with more expansive open areas if there are lots of Titans on screen at once it can drop. Lowest such drop I've seen so far according to FRAPS is 38fps.

Curiously, adding more AA doesn't seem to hurt my framerate. I have it set to 2xMSAA because while I do notice that, I can't seem to tell the difference with more AA. 2x and 8x look identical to my eyes. Maybe my vision sucks or something, or maybe because I only have a 23 inch monitor the 1080p gives it high pixel density.

Anyway, just to test it for one match I put it at 8xMSAA and expected a drop into the thirties, but it still played almost exactly the way it did at 2x. Weird. I left it at 2x regardless because I saw no reason to make my card work harder for something that I didn't notice anyway.

Yep! Same setup here. Metro/BF4/Tomb Raider on High/Ultra, Titanfall on low still drops to 40 on some maps. Really frustrating, but I'm putting up with it as I'm really loving the game.

I don't think that profile can work. F5 is a compatibility value for AFR but you're forcing SFR mode. Can't be ok, mostly will work as single gpu.

Is there a way to get above 60fps without horrible tearing? :o

I've not noticed such bad tearing in games for a while, I usually play with VSync off due to running at 120hz and not having the performance to follow it up! But most games I may hit 80-100fps so it at least feels a little nicer than 60fps. Where as TitanFall seems to be stuck at 60 :D

I want to try this game for 2 reasons:
- To know how my computer will run it
- To know if I like it because I still didnt play it

Is there any kind of demo or something?

Hmmm, interesting. The profile seems to increase performance compared with no profile or single gpu for me (FRAPS), but I am no expert of the underlying mechanics at work here.

Mostly 120fps with short not GPU bottleneck drops from time to time to 100fps or so.

The Colony runs quite poorly though, prolonged drops to ~110-115fps with short drops to 80ish fps.

The Odyssey runs strangely too, when you are at either end of the map looking to another end it runs at about 80fps (gpu load 85%). Close to center of the map performance stabilises at usual 120 with drops.

By the way, do you know if there is any documentation on how to create sli compatibility bits out there?

Bizarre, as I have the same CPU, same amount of RAM and I'm on a 560ti and I haven't seen a drop yet. I'll run a frame counter at some point, but it doesn't drop when I get a Titan, it just never drops. I am running in 720p though as I'm streaming it to my TV with VSYNC off.

When you say updated drivers, you are using beta drivers, right?

Can someone please help me by recommending some settings. These frame drops(60-40 quite alot, then all the way to 20 or so in big fights) are making the game almost unplayable.

Much appreciated.

What are your video settings? I am running it at 720P as we'll with an i5 750, 8 GB, and a 560 Ti and I get slowdown on some of the maps still with just me running around. Probably 30-40s.

I am getting 60 FPS apart from when things get massively hectic. Some maps perform worse than others with some stuttering in places.

I have set everything to high; textures are set to high too; 2x anti-aliasing; 16x AF.

I have set adaptive vsync in the Nvidia control panel and switched off vsync in the game. Tearing isn't too bad most times.

I get the idea, but i dont want to take that kind of risk xD

That's actually really smart. Since I've been trying to refund my preorder(!) for a while now with no luck, and just gave up (if you wondering because I ended up with Russian only version).

Ended up with about 6 emails with this text :
It seems weÂ’ve hit a snag in our attempts to process your recent refund request. This is likely due to either an issue with your payment method, or an unexpected technical error on our end. Either way, weÂ’d like to help you get your money back.
Please contact Origin Help as soon as you have a moment, and one of our agents will make sure your request gets into the queue.

Apparently they dont think they have they have my money, my bank does not have them either e.t.c. All in all not worth the hassle, ended up with nofate's Outcome and some reg tweaks as the solution...

Thats from one single match, not even getting close to a steady 120. But if you want to lock it at 60, should be no problem I guess.

When I tried those settings my game was getting artifacting and lots of screen noise. No good. Will wait for the official patches/drivers.

Settings are maxed out at 1440p, solid 60fps. Has some dipping here and there, probably optimization issues.

Doesn't feel like I'm getting the performance I should with this rig, but this game does feel unoptimized.

Well you're definitely holding back two titans with your cpu only at 3.0 ghz..... that 920 should reach 3.6 easily (and beyond).

i5 2500K @ 4.8GHz

Pretty much 60fps locked with everything maxed out with very high textures. Had a really big drop into the 30s when someone did an execution on me while I was in a Titan. Other than that it's cool. Also the start of the Demeter mission with all the explosions. Once the actual match started it was back to 60.

Beta drivers yes, but i am running it at 1080p. I played last night for a good few hours, i've settled on medium textures with everything else set to the lowest setting possible. Still getting an inconsistent framerate. I've been monitoring it closely too, which i'm sure annoys the shit out of my team.

There is just no excuse why a game on the lowest settings should run this poorly. I get that my gpu isn't new but jesus. The second campaign mission is a great stress test - i'm almost always getting 45 fps there.

Such a shame such a good game is being held back by such a shite graphics engine.

I don't know what they thought they were making with this but it's fairly inadequate for a AAA game.

I can't get a solid 60 on maps and the tropical one especially plays really bad. Any suggestions?

you guys think I can run this at 1080p medium settings? or at least 720p? I'm ok as long as fps never drop below 30

Am I right in hearing the game is locked to 60 fps?

Yep. Zampella was asked about this on twitter (Mar 08 date stamp) and he says Respawn is working on a fix.

Ajay @AjayLikesGaming
@VinceZampella Is there a day one patch for pc to unlock the fps from 60 without vsync.

Vince Zampella @VinceZampella
@AjayLikesGaming no, but working on it

In-game VSync behaves weirdly for me (120 Hz Monitor)

VSync off = Locked 60 FPS with tearing
Double Buffered = Variable FPS with no tearing (jumps around from 60 to 120 wildly depending on the fights), lots of stuttering

I have not tried the nVidia VSync override, I'll try that when I get home.

So is vsync not broken for anyone? I mean it works, but the stuttering is awful.

The stuttering is a huge issue. Some people, myself included, have mitigated it by disabling in game vsync and forcing it in the control panel or other software. I've settled on vsync off in game with adaptive and triple buffering on in the nvidia control panel. It helps, but the game still performs like ass. At least it doesn't stutter as much though.

Either my hardware is way out of date or this game is incredibly unoptimized.

Both. After a couple of hours of more play time, I decided that I had to change the texture resolution to low, otherwise my GTX560 can't handle it. I really hope they'll release some optimization patches, the game's incredibly ugly right now.

It seems the shadow setting has a big impact on the game, I turn shadows off completely and my fps increased considerably. I think Digital Foundry noticed similar during their BETA analysis (don't have the link to hand). I went from 40-50fps to 60fps almost all of the time. Everything set to High.

...and I don't think the higher shadow settings seem to add much visually anyways. For me 60fps is king.

try it.

You know a game has engine problems when it looks like this, and runs like you guys are reporting (also, having to revert to SFR?! WHAT IS THIS?!)

They admitted in their most recent tech interview that they are not using texture streaming of any kind, hence why the game has ridiculous VRAM requirements for how poor it looks.

Just antiquated all round. Some of the LoD pop-in for various junk scattered around is really bad too.

The game has some of the nastiest aliasing I've seen in a while. It's actually making me want to force some FXAA/SMAA.

Has anyone managed to force FXAA or SMAA yet?
