Titanfall sells 10 million copies

it physically pains people to see Titanfall do well so they have to find some way to discredit it

So apparently, asking for clarification equals the desire to discredit a product... For the record, even if it's 10 million unique users, that's still very impressive.

It's something called comparing and contrasting. One tweet specifies what the number refers to while the other just gives out a number.

no no I get that, I just think you're assigning more value to the difference than it merits. but ya know whatever, I'm over this now. Its probably players, so you can rest easy. :)

What are you talking about?

We're just making sure it's accurate, no one here has any beef against Titanfall, and I challenge you to prove that they would have any reason to.

If anything, you come across as a zealous fan defending this game against any "alleged" slight.

They didn't sell 10 million. It's 10 million unique players, it always is when these type of announcements. The game might still have sold like 7 million, which is still impressive, but I guess they went for the more hype-y announcement (it builds more momentum for the announcement of a potential sequel).

Props to them anyway.

The amount of salt on GAF lately has been absurd. And it's always the same token users that keep popping up.

LOL! Some of you are way too emotionally attached to Titanfall, they can't stand the idea of someone questioning the info in the OP.

Do you have a source on this policy?

I do remember reading something like this but would like clarification if you would be so kind.

No. It's just that, starting this gen, whenever they released a big budget game, EA has refused to provide sales figures. Whenever journalists ask them they give them the usual line "EA doesn't release sales figures" or they would cite the NPD. We don't know how well Plants vs Zombies did, no idea on how well Dragon Age did and no numbers for Titanfall (other than NPD). EA used to provide sales figures so this is a very striking change and very annoying.

I searched and can't find any article on it. I think they just quietly introduced it last year.

Good. It is by far the best game I have played of this gen. I have put over 500 hours into it and still come back to it again and again. I really don't get when people say it needs more weapons or abilities. I will take a small amount of perfectly balanced stuff like Titanfall versus CoD or BF's heaping selection of shit any day of the week.

It definitely needed more modes at launch, and imho they never should have charged for map packs. But the core gameplay is just so so good. I can't imagine anything topping Last Titan Standing in the FPS for me for a long time, if ever. It's MW1/WaW SnD tier good.

I know the game is dead on PC apparently, but there's still four thousand plus playing at odd hours of the morning whenever I hop on. My only issue with the game is there's no lone wolf matchmaking. It sucks to be shot into a LTS match against a full squad on the other side, you stand no chance and are just fodder.

Great numbers, but does it really need a single player campaign? Why can't people just love a game for what it is designed to be? I don't play an epic single player adventure and ask for multiplayer. If you want single player then you're looking in the wrong place. Personally, I want all the focus and resources to be spent on giving us more content and a better multiplayer experience because that is what Titanfall is.

Thanks mate, appreciate the response.

I found this quote from an article.

I reached out to EA to see if I could at least get a sense for how Dragon Age: Inquisition is faring in terms of digital sales on both console and PC, but was told, predictably, that EA doesn’t release sales figures.

I know they don't reveal sales during their earnings but I am aware that they have revealed sales at random times for some titles this gen.

I wonder what the concurrent players looks like these days.

Also if they had released it on PS4 instead of PC this game would have sold a metric fuckton. It's just not the kind of FPS that PC gamers wanna play.

Or, you know, people just want some clarification before jumping to conclusions.

It bombed on PC.

You guys should probably learn to read.

I mean...that's not very hard to believe when they've practically given the game away multiple times. I mean, the game has been $5 on both PC and Xbox One many times from what I remember, and they made the season pass free.

This doesn't even imply wanting clarification. If you need a TLDR

"Not impressive, game is dirt cheap even season pass is free"

and nah, I don't care about game sales. I play games, not console wars. However, Titanfall being successful is bad because everyone wants to spread this nonsense that "games need shitty 5 hour single player to sell!"

deserved, great game
better than any cod ive played, esp in the netcode department
just need to get rid of autoaim pistol and add more stuff and sequel should be gold

I got the game for like $5 with all extensions from the official Xbox store.

No wonder they hit 10 million that way.

Definitely not sales. They recently reported 8 million users. A jump to 10 million sales would be ridiculous from just reporting 8 million users.

but at the same time EA is worth more than ever before. Their stock value more than double within 1 year.

Most of that might be star wars though.

Would love to know the following (on top of sales vs players, obviously):

1) The platform breakdown.
2) The average retail price.
3) Percentage of digital sales / Number of physical units.
4) "Free" sales.

Not that this isn't worth celebrating (anything not F2P reaching this number is extremely rare--and even then it's few F2P games!), but it's an interesting case study in how much you can run up numbers if you sell games for next to nothing, plus how well you can sell things under the radar digitally thus bypassing NPD. Actually, because of the number boasting, it's now the new poster child for NPD desperately needing to be able to track digital sales.

The net result is that it ended up bringing in a ton of revenue and what that means for the industry. Even at theoretical $5 sales that's still money that wouldn't have come in otherwise, and perhaps more games will be bold with this sort of thing in the future to try to keep populations going. It's quite a good thing for us as players!
