Today in DCEU: Affleck reportedly wants out as Batman

See this is what happens when everyone loses their minds and start giving out historically poor reviews and razzies to a movie that isn't really that bad. Ben Affleck was the best thing about the movie and yet any praise of his performance was overshadowed by poor reviews, stupid memes, and a fucking razzie nomination.

If this thread is any indication, people actually liked him as Batman. So did I. But now he's leaving it all behind. hope you are all happy.

Don't . . .

. . . hire . . .

. . . Snyder

Although I've posted that myself, honestly the deaths in Nolan's movies are a bit different than Batffleck literally blowing people away with machine guns on his batwing.

I remember when that scene showed up in the trailer everybody thought it was just edited weirdly, no way Batman kills! But nope, that's exactly what happens, heh.

I really don't care for Snyder's brand of Batman. They've really missed the point of all of these characters. Batman's supposed to be a hero. There's not an ounce of heroism on display in BvS.

I've notice DCEU fans keep trying to drag down Nolan's Batman and Reeves' Superman in an attempt to defend some of the missteps Snyder has made with these characters and I don't understand it.

Wow, this would be absolutely nuts. Dead on arrival if it happens.

As someone who loves BvS, hates MoS, and is pretty meh on Suicide Squad, if Ben leaves the DCEU theres no reason to keep it around. Ben's Batman/Bruce Wayne is the best we've gotten on live action film. Without him theres no reason to keep the mediocre to flat out bad films we've gotten/will get into order to flesh out the DCEU. Scrap it, FOR GOD SAKE LEARN FROM IT, and start over.

Are you me? I also totally agree with everything here.

Lol I’m guessing this is the last time Campea mentions any scoop for all of the flack that he’s getting, disclaimer and all.

What's funny is that he said back in 2015 they were done with this stupid game when they ate fistfuls of shit on their stupid SNOKE rumormongering before the Force Awakens.

Fast forward just over one year later...

Does Affleck have a three-picture deal?

If he's informed WB that he will not be renewing his contract, maybe they decide not to do a stand-alone Batman movie and decide to close out the DCEU with the big JL movie against Darkseid?

That is way we should get to work on our enthusiast news company. To be fair and balance alternative to what is out there

Shame if this is true. I liked the actors portraying a lot of these roles just needed better directors, vision, and material to work with and now we are gonna have to deal with a reboot once again and lose these guys and gals :(

If Affleck does walk before JL even releases, then I think it doesn't really matter what that movie does, the DCEU experiment gets paused and reformulated.

(not to mention Affleck bailing before that movie opens seriously hurts that movie as it is)

It really does seem like the studio (which is, again, probably going to undergo a massive shakeup, period, not just on the superhero side) is increasingly tired of throwing all this time and money at something that just stays broken no matter what, and is looking at a way to reset and regain some sort of positive word of mouth. Might as well slow everything up now, since whoever will come in (Tsujihara is probably going to get kicked here soon - look at the studio's output since he's been in charge) will make sure their stamp gets put on everything really speedily.

The biggest problem here isn't even if the movies turn out to be good. It's that even if one or two of these movies ARE good (Wonder Woman, basically) they're still attached to all this horseshit that has more or less become, in the public narrative, negative examples of how you do this shit.

I hope this is true if only because then we can finally put the last nail in the coffin of this Zach Snyder fuck up of a universe.

Yikes.

DC should just stick to cartoons.

They shouldn't just stick to them. They should hire the best possible talent on the writing side, and pour over 100+ million into their budgets, and release those cartoons theatrically with the help of a great marketing campaign.

You don't need Dini/Timm in control. But you DO need someone who understands why that universe worked, and then have that someone put together a team that can adapt those stories and most importantly, that tone to their future animated films.

Big Budget Family Friendly Animated Superhero Epics.

DO IT.

Scrap all of it. Start with Shazaam and Batman Beyond movie as your reboots.

Go on to introduce either Teen Titans or Young Justice. Retool Suicide Squad, and decide if you are keeping Margo and Smith or not. Everyone else should be gone.

Introduce Flash and Green Lantern later. 5 to 8 years from now, you can reintroduce superman and Batman.

One final piece of advice, NO MORE trilogies. Some heroes only need one standalone film, some need two, and some like Batman can be ongoing. You can see them cameo in other movies and or a Justice League movie.

2018:
Shazaam
2019: Batman Beyond
2020: summer: Teen Titans. Holiday: Suicide Squad 2
2021: Green Arrow
2022: Flash and Green Lantern

A lot of words, and not one about their tentpole. Cyborg

You know, if you give a good script to Snyder, his movies would be good :/ . He has a lot of talent as director.

I will always defend 300. It's a gorgeous movie with a mostly good "script" (which, in this case; was the graphic novel itself). The subplot with Cersei and McNulty was a dud, but that's because it wasn't in the book and they needed to stretch the movie's runtime or something.

The first Sin City is another great example. Snyder works well as a director when he religiously sticks to the source material.

He should get out if he can. I love DC stuff so my standards are pretty low--I just want to watch movies with my favorite characters, but DCEU can't even hit that low bar.

Snyder's unearned, overblown seriousness has chased all charm out of these characters, and the quality of writing is basically insulting.

shit costs a kajillion dollars and they can't hire competent writers, smh

Run, Ben, run

Burn it all down

Yeah, if it is announced before JL is released, it is going to impact that movie's promotion cycle incredibly negatively. I can't imagine them continuing the DCEU without Affleck but at the same time, Aquaman is ready to go and cancelling the Suicide Squad sequels and spin-offs would probably be a bad move despite the poor quality of that movie. Talk about being stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Aside from any fanboy wankery, Flashpoint might really be their best option at this point, because a clean break would mean no more Margot Robbie, Will Smith and co. But with Flashpoint, you can recast Batman, the Joker, Luthor and keep the elements that work.

This year's San Diego comic-con is going to be interesting I bet.

Do you work for Warner Brothers? You post as if you have insider info and a financial interest in the company.

I think he has some sort of history with Paramount?

There's a couple people here on the board who have worked in VFX, I think there's a few that have (or might still) worked at a trailer house or two.

Couple writers' room denizens, I think?

Considering how dirty this board did Whitta, though, I wouldn't be surprised if people who do know what the fuck they're talking about aren't forthcoming with explaining HOW they know what they're talking about, because that's about the point angry, insecure motherfuckers start coming for their ankles with teeth bared and fingernails filed to points.

Its still pretty cool to me that you and that other GAF-er broke the story about Snoke's appearance.

I dont ask for another feige, but how is possible that wb still hasnt hired Someone competent to lead the dceu?

Because they think Geoff Johns = "Someone competent."

What's funny is that when they first thought they were going to start their DCEU, it was w/ Green Lantern. They had Berlanti in charge.

And then they fucking smothered him and essentially shunted him back to television. Ruined his screenplay, which ruined the movie.

Then he went off and basically created a cinematic universe spread over multiple seasons of television for going on 5 straight years.

Another one, this time from Ben Holliday of Den of Geek.

I have no clue on his track record.

I'm wondering if the rumours of Affleck's personal issues are bouncing back and forth and everyone is just jumping to wild speculation. I don't see how Affleck steps down from playing Batman BEFORE Justice League comes out unless he's caught with a nuclear warhead in the boot of his car.

I absolutely despised BvS. Hated it. One of the worst super hero movies I've ever seen (that had a real chance at at least being decent).

But Ben was a damn good Batman and a good Bruce Wayne. At the very least, he LOOKED great in the suit.
This is possibly the hands down, stupidest version of batman ever made. He does less than do no detective work.
Terrible Bruce Wayne terrible Bateman.

Ha ha ha ho he he hah

I didn't know that about Whitta; must have been before my time here. Creators should mostly stay off of social media. Busty's posts are always pro-WB/anti-other studios, which is unusual even for super fans. That's why I was curious.

They basically need to fast track a flashpoint movie for release next year.

Nah.

Keep Johns and his shitty, continuity-choked fetishes away from these films.

Let Shazam be its own thing over at New Line for a couple movies. Let Harry Potter's Dumbledore Prequels carry some of that weight. Let the Lego line bear some of that blockbuster burden.

Give yourself 3 or 4 years to seriously plan out a general idea as to what tone you want all these movies to have, what stories you want to tell with these characters, and get some quality scripts LOCKED before you start moving forward.

THEN announce the return of the DC Universe to the big screen.

(make them big-budget family friendly animated epics. Sidestep all of the negatives of live-action adaptation while keeping every single positive of superhero storytelling)

I can't see him leaving before Justice League either. My guess is he probably has cold feet, but I'm unsure if that does lead to him departing.

They could salvage a DCEU where Affleck leaves. Kill Batman in Justice League. Yeah, I know they just 'killed' Superman, but whatever. Hell, if they want to steal another iconic DC Comics scene and do it a disservice in a movie they could have Batman shoot Darkseid and die in the process. The portrayal of the character doesn't leave much room for a good Batman movie anyway.

Then bring Nightwing in. Make Batman's movie 'Battle for the Cowl'. There's something to work with.
