Imo Minecraft RTX is the holy grail. Cyberpunk PC is also super impressive. Metro is... ok.But what about Metro?
Thought that was the holy grail?

'Twas the holy grail on here by VFX and the like when it hitImo Minecraft RTX is the holy grail. Cyberpunk PC is also super impressive. Metro is... ok.
Yes you are mistaken. Maybe you means Watch Dogs Legion on console. Nsomniac games is an another level and probably the best raytracing reflections implementation on console. If I'm not mistaken Insomniac are mostly just doing low resolution ultra low LOD reflections and even then are having to pare back density and render resolution to get it running. That doesn't really say or mean anything for developers wanting to use multiple or more costly effects. Metro is probably the best example of console RT, but it's a last gen port and runs near 1080p most of the time to pull it off. Games targeting any semblance of next-gen asset or density aren't going to have the overhead to use much if any RT without significant sacrifices to resolution and frame rate. Which is a trade off (rightly so) that most developers aren't going to take.
Say console are not capable to have better raytracing than Far Cry 6 is definitely an huge bullshit. Fact my balls, it's pure trolling if I can say.I mean... I have a PS5 & PC but he's not lying, these consoles are weaker than a RTX 30 series.

Not sure what you mean for true raytracing (if you mean full raytracing well it's literally impossible on pc too cause it's too expensive there also) anyway I would bet whatever you want console are definitely more capable than what Far Cry 6 shows on pc. Otherwise game like RE8 wouldn't exist on console. Sure reflections are very low resolution (though neither on pc raytracing effects are full resolution most of the times) but achieve lightings and raytracing reflections at the same time at the first tries with such fps, it's encouraging. You are blind. Join us, brother.
Get an RTX 3070/3080 and you will become a living god. No fanboy of xbox or ps will stand against the true might of PC GAMING.
/s
lmao anyway, it's still true. true raytracing at 60fps will become standard when PS5 pro and Xbox Series Z release. Until then, they are gonna have to sacrifice a lot of stuff, unfortunately.
Tom's hardware has not been a thing since the days of the TNT 2 or something.Yeah because Far Cry 6 on pc is full raytraced, right "Tom"? Jesus Christ what a nonsense article.
I got chills down my spine. No fanboy of xbox or ps will stand against the true might of PC GAMING.
Well that's where I don't agree at all. I think we haven't already seen what's the limits of console in raytracing. If I'm not wrong Direct X are quite substandard to achieve optimal raytracing performance cause virtual coding. Probably for now only ps5 can push more raytracing thanks to the low API access but seems no one is capable to push it without using the unfortunate virtual code approach outside a particular Sony studios. Can we just agree on three things and move on?
1) The best PC GPUs have better RT capabilities than XSX and PS5 with a large margin
2) The RT in FC6 that have been shown so far can clearly be done on consoles (with proper coding)
3) The largest gap in RT implementation is on software optimisation and not hardware - the software algorithms in current engines are plain poor and RT is often simply brute forced

You must be young or new to the internet.
Is it though? GT7 will not have any RT too on gameplay. Or FH5. Both cross gen...Say console are not capable to have better raytracing than Far Cry 6 is definitely an huge bullshit. Fact my balls, it's pure trolling if I can say.
FYI, raytracing denoise pass is processed on compute shaders on all GPUs including Ampere. RTX 3080 (the lowest GA102 SKU) has around 30 TFLOPS compute for DX12U's raytracing denoise pass and PC DX12U's DirectStorage decompression functions.Far Cry 6 Proves Consoles Aren't Powerful Enough for Ray Tracing
Ubisoft is right to save the effects for PCs only.www.tomshardware.com
Knew it.
Doom Eternal has raytracing on XSX, PS5 and PC Vulkan. XSX's Doom Eternal RT beats PS5's.Well that's where I don't agree at all. Pardon me good sir... 25 Teraflops!
Xbox Series X early tests indicate NVIDIA RTX 2080 performance, taps 25 teraflops while ray tracing
These are just early Xbox Series X results!www.windowscentral.com
Nah Ubisoft devs are fine, but not all devs are the same.I believed this nonsense until I saw R&C Rift Apart.... an experience that sounds like quite a few people had.
It absolutely can be done incredibly well.... if the right people are doing it.
Ubisoft are not those people.
Don't say bullshit now. You take the worst scenario possible. There are some reflections in the building which have impressive level of geometry in the long distance. It doesn't look like I am, they they got the Vita version running in the mirror world.
Watch Dogs uses on consoles only "short range" RT. Everything in the distance is more or less a mix of SSR & cubemaps. Only reflections near you are RT based.Nah Ubisoft devs are fine, but not all devs are the same.
Watch Dogs launched last year with RT reflections and looked stunning on consoles.
Avatar is using RT everywhere. Even for foliage. It's just a matter of effort. Some devs just dont have the time or resources to add RT to every game.
Yeah, Metro Exodus showed that it is possible.Or they would not be fucked to implement it.
And the journalism
Also Ubisoft just can't keep up with superior Slavic technology
So tell me more
Also let's wait how the RDNA 2 card will perform at this title, because without DLSS...
Well, WD Legions raytracing is awful on console. The LOD is ridicolous low, ps2 level I'm not joke.Nah Ubisoft devs are fine, but not all devs are the same.

They normally are full resolution on pc, it's why dlss improves performance so much in RT. It's actually something we need to see as an option on pc become standard, being able to set RT effects to 1/2 and 1/4 resolution would be very useful.Sure reflections are very low resolution (though neither on pc raytracing effects are full resolution most of the times)
Gives “Tom Hardware” a whole new meaningIt's no longer a tryst worthy tech site
Better. I need 60 fps and no RT bullshit☺
Yah thats why the PC version is going to be better since the PC will also have DXR Reflections & Shadows, Fidelity FX (FSR, CAS), unlocked FPS, ultrawide screen, and adjustable FOV
And you're still playing console games. Lol. I was a fan when there was a reason for staying: RTS, point & click adventures, first mmorpgs. I don't need all that to end up playing another ugly but bumped up Sony game on it. Give me a nice game at 60 fps on ps5 or xboxseriesx and you have me happy. For proper RT I go on pornhub anyway, if you know what I mean... it always comes down to what you like to fap on in the end.
Who the fuck cares if they can or not. Developers are very good in faking these things without wasting lots of resources on raytracing. I‘m sure 90% of gamers can’t even differentiate raytraced reflections from SSR, a lot of times proved here on gaf as well.
Not always. Doom with RT looks great and runs great. While you always can get a more powerful pc than a console, no one can deny that Ray tracing technology is at a point where the performance drop aren't worth the setting.
Yes it looks very good but the trade off in performance is too great to make it worth it.
