Eh, I dunno about that. LP3 was alright. They killed and buried the franchise when they released LP2.
By kill I mean it reviewed very poorly and never got a sequel, killing the franchise. Not saying it's explicitly their flaw - but the numbers suggest that game bombed.

a little OT but LP2 was a fun game to play in co-op. Still playing it with friends.
A developer can only work on what they're given (assuming they can't publish their own stuff.)
If Activision tells them they want a Tony Hawk game that uses this new half assed skateboard peripheral, theres only so much they can do.
If Activision tells them they want an HD Tony Hawk game that will be a downloadable discounted title that gets announced December 10th and released the next year in July, theres only so much they can do.
Basically, the biggest gripes about the game are the bugs. Bugs are the type of thing that take time to fix. Nobody just naturally develops a game without introducing any bugs at all in the process. A developer needs to be given time to fix them.
Another big gripe is the poor challenge design. There are a lot of cut and paste type challenges very similar to one another, and very simple. Again, this is the sort of thing that comes about when not given enough time to implement new ideas. We see this happen all the time with games trying to pad out their length.
When I played Tony Hawk HD it was certainly a flawed product but there was something there. It was far from perfect but there was a solid base to work from that a true, great Tony Hawk game could be birthed from.
I think if Tony Hawk 5 was coming out September 29th, 2016 we could have seen a true great sequel to the franchise, but Activision giving the game such a short dev cycle forced it to being this PoS we see today.

Apparently they later admitted they were talking about Assassin's Creed, but all I've actually seen bad with the AC game is some random framerate issues, so that whole thing got blown out of proportion.
The fact they were trying to be all "Hollywood cool" by admitting they knew a big secret, making AC:S sound worse than it was, and completely fucking missed this atrocity, shows how little they're connected to what's going on.
At the same time you have to admit they already had something of a codebase from before, given that they've made THPS HD. THAT CODE EXISTS. So the core of their work would be focused around making new levels and characters while updating a handful of engine issues. None of that happened.

This was sent to die, they don't give a shit. They just have to be happy their stupid contract with Tony Hawk is finally over.
They're too busy trying to launch Guitar Hero and Call of Duty.
I don't think that THHD was a strong enough base that to make a final product all they needed to do was add on top of it. It was solid, but there were bugs and issues that needed ironing out. They still needed the time to clean those out, while introducing new content, implementing their online multiplayer (which probably took a lot of time as online portions of games typically do), and cleaning up the new bugs that get introduced throughout this entire process.
There is the possibility that they've been working on THPS5 every since THHD launched, but thats highly unlikely. Especially given how close the leaked (emphasis: leaked) announcement was to the final release.
They were given a short amount of time to build upon an already half baked game and the end result is a quarter baked product. I don't think all of the responsibility for a poor product should be laid at Robomodos feet, and I think Activision is responsible for a large part of the games failings by not giving the project the proper time needed to let it become what fans would actually want out of it.

Is the game really that broken? Who cares if the ragdolls physics are messed up. Hell, messed up ragdoll physics are fun.

What did the player do to cause the character to do that? They're just playing the game normally and the physics are so busted that it caused that to happen.
Look at the picture again, HOW IS THAT NOT GAMEPLAY?
The guy can't even complete a simple stunt without shit getting messy.

Umm, he was landing a simple kick flip and the game shot him across the map. Wiping out for no reason and it taking longer than normal to recover affect my gameplay.

It looked like he was executing a second kickflip as he lands, which caused him to bail like it should, the only problem is his bail animation is silly looking, but I don't think that matters so much.
Do you not know what ragdolling is? Because I'm pretty sure in every single post I said the ragdolling is screwy.
I don't really care what happens after a bail, I care if the bail itself was fair, and it's hard to tell from videos and gifs if that's the case.

Yep, Slam mechanic is 100% broken. I try to grind, game decides to slam, and then trick failed. It is hard to string combos because of the stupid Slam mechanic.

All the modes have time limits, so having an extended bail like that playout is just taking up time. Here's a better example of the player doing nothing that should really cause the game to glitch, but it does

Well, since you dont mind flying through levels for nearly no reason. There is also a lot of clipping through the environments and bugs that dont let you launch challenges.
Seriously watch some videos and you will see the game is plagued with issues.
There are loads of game breaking bugs, which arent to do with physics. For example, after each event (which starts and ends with a loading screen) you are thrown back into the online lobby but you can only start about 50% of events from the online lobby due to a bug, so you have to restart the game.

It seems like the time is the same every time. They respawn long before the ragdoll hits the ground on a lot of these videos.
And isn't doing a flat jump and landing on a near vertical slope always a bail in past tony hawk games?
I can't be the only one that doesn't mind messed up ragdoll physics. I remember people thoroughly enjoying the ragdoll physics of Skyrim which the developers said they intentionally kept messed up because it was fun.

Robomodo have made multiple Tony Hawk games up to that point, and they apparently couldn't even get a HD remaster right during their tenure, you're right that it's Activision's fault for even giving Robomodo another chance after so many chances and falling short, they could have built up to this point with their previous games and iterated on it but didn't, this is just like when somehow 10 years after Spiderman 2, the Amazing Spiderman 2 game is boasting a Web slinging off buildings feature that never should have disappeared in the first place.
Doesn't help that they tried to shoehorn in cell shaded graphics only a month or two ago.

- Starting challenges can sometimes be impossible. you're supposed to "Trick into" a challenge to star it, but it very rarely works
- There is only full speed or stopped speed. Your character never gets up to speed, so if you're stuck in an area that you need a small amount of speed to get out of, tough shit, just bail and start over.
- Online is completely fucked up

Considering that the Tony Hawks license expires this year it was either ship it this year or any money Activision bothered to (laughably) spend goes down the toilet, guess which one Activision prefers.

I wanted this game to be good, but that couldn't even happen. If we were just given a remastered THUG with Trophies/Achievements and expanded online play, it would have been golden.

I'm actually having a great time watching the numerous gifs and gameplay videos. I'll admit: I'm sorely tempted to pick this up on the cheap and play it drunk with a group of friends.

I played 2 hours last night and did not see a single glitch. Not a one.
Yes, i saw lag from the horribly integrated online.
Yes, so far I saw uninspired missions like the Ballon Balls.
And yes, I saw pretty clunky controls, although honestly they pretty much feel very similar to THPS 1 & 2 to me, I think people tend to remember those games with nostalgia than for what they actually were.
But not a single glitch.
PS4. Patch installed.
Is it worth $60? Nope, probably note, however I personally never saw any of these issues others are seeing. So yeah, I guess I am the luckiest man on earth. Either that or perhaps, just perhaps, the glitches are exaggerated and people are trying to make them happen as well.

Do you grind a lot?
Many glitches relate to Slam. You can make one happen via Slam + trying a grab move. Will always trigger something.
That being said, I found no game breaking glitches, but bails when I had no reason to was annoying.
I thought the same thing about not seeing any glitches. Until you know, they just started happening while normally playing the game. Just admit it, this game is a giant turd.
