top ten favorite ps2 games?

what are your top 10 favorite ps2 games?

edit: dunno where the quote went(bout the garbage thread lol)

I'm just curious about what people on this forum list as their top favorites most people come here for a reason, recommendations from like minded people being one

I think it's good to continually sample a forum that's interested in gaming/game collecting culture

best and favorite game discussion threads are basically all gaming forums are made of(that and informative threads about game releases and guides for games)

so I think a thread asking what a gaming culture forum lists as their top 10 favorite ps2 games is appropriate right?

Kingdom Hearts
Silent Hill 2
God of War
SSX
GTA Vice City
Devil May Cry
ICO
Jak & Daxter
Final Fantasy X
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X

You know despite that gen having alot of good games I just wasn't a big fan overall. I think its because xbox/ps2/gamecube/wii were like in the middle of the early 3D games (ps1/n64) which are great and the flashy new age HD games that are like blockbuster movies.

Yeah.

Anyway ... MGS3 and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory come to mind.

metal gear solid 2 & 3 : two of the most amazing games ever, obviously, wacky stories and characters and awesome and deep mechanics, the best of last gen no doubt

Time Splitters 2
best FPS of last gen, so much personality with a kickass co-op campaign and a feature packed MP mode

NFL2K5
best sports game ever, the last NFL2K before it was executed by EA's money

I did not care for GTA3 or the expansions at all, but Bully had a unique setting and it was easily R*'s best game of last gen

Sly Cooper 1 & 2
a couple of the best non-nintendo 3D platformers

Tony Hawk 3
Probably the best skateboarding game, still had a great core as well as great tracks

I feel bad having Persona 4, Zone of the Enders 2, and Xenosaga ep.3 in my to-play pile. Plan on doing all three as soon as my summer vacation starts though, so hopefully those end up on my list after all the good things I have heard about them.

Did not get into RPGs all that much until this generation, so this could change a bit if I ever catch up on things. Never finished Ico or SotC but I'll just wait for the PS3 remake to finish those and then rank accordingly. REZ gets an honor mention since PS2 is where it was "officially" released at retail in the West, but I played it on Dreamcast.

Was more of a nintendo boy so I didn't play a massive amount of psx...

Wip3out
GT2

are probably the only two amazing psx games that I sunk countless hours into

Duh, it´s a difficult choice, let´s see...

-Disgaea Hour Of Darkness
-God Hand
-Devil May Cry
-Silent Hill 2
-Shin Megami Tensei Digital Devil Saga
-Guilty Gear XX Accent core +
-Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons of Liberty
-Final Fantasy X
-Tekken 5
-God Of War 2

But i could go on forever, amazing game library

Edit: Damn, how could i forgot Onimusha 3? it´s one of my most played games :/

Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner
I feel the biggest compliment I can give the title is that it's pacing is built atop of a needle. It's only a 5-6 hour title, but nothing felt wasteful. The old school enemy design of learning patterns and weak points, mixed in extremely well with the modernized action mechanics. Learning the ins and outs to the enemies, while having a variety of attacks and sub weapons kept the gameplay fresh throughout. Add on to some strong level design, where the mechanics were not forced to the point of being repetitive. It made for an extremely tight and well done 5-6.

Always add in how gorgeous the title was.

Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition

Once again, another gameplay focused title. Best way to describe it was it being like water. Choosing between the 4 styles, allowed them to develop each one fully, instead of just being a cliff note like most titles do. It never felt like I forced into employing cheap tactics, but instead was being directed to create my own flow of battle. Do I want to lean heavy towards countering or create a continuous flow of attacks? Both would be as effective as the other.

Final Fantasy X2
Honestly, the light hearted tale worked out much better than another doom, end of the world. Add on top of the most addictive version of the ATB system yet. It's a shame they put out this gem as a side-story, instead of a proper entry.

GTA:VC/SA

I'll admit it right now, SA is a better game. The mechanics are much more refined and actually bearable compared to III/VC. Yet, SA overextended too much. The story dragged out too long and the scope of the map ended up being too large for it's own good. I ended up wasting more time running back to retry missions than I hoped too. VC while having inferior mechanics, the small scale worked out better for me. So I don't really want to choose since I do prefer one, but the other is clearly better.

Bit tried now, so I'll update the other 6 later.

ICO
MGS3
Shadow of the Colossus
Silent Hill 2
Zone of Enders 2
GTA SA
God of War 2
Kingdom Hearts

Indigo Prophecy

Still need to play a bunch of RPGs. I also might be forgetting a few games that might replace some of the ones I listed.

Not going to put a lot of thought into this, but here you go:

GTA: Vice City
War of the Monsters
FFX
Shadow of the Colossus
Onimusha
Devil May Cry 3
Timesplitters 2

OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

King of Colosseum 2
Devil May Cry 3

PS2 exclusive? Either way I have no idea. Well I do, but I'd probably end up posting 50 and maybe getting it down to 25. Top 10 would take all weekend.

The new Sticky says no list threads, but seeing as it's here:

Mad Maestro!
SOS survival (or whatever the Disaster games are called in your region)
The Parappa games incl. Um Jammer Lammy (Ps1 versions and PS2)

All other games have been bettered since that I know of, yeah I enjoyed them at the time but only those above are yet to be truly surpassed. Mad Maestro is probably still the best genuine music game that allows expressive playing which really is a shame.
