We should all be monumentally ashamed.
San Juan mayor is literally begging for assistance now.

"We have no time for patience anymore...So I am asking the President of the United States to make sure somebody is in charge that is up to the task of saving lives. They were up to the task in Africa when Ebola came over. They were up to the task in Haiti...I will do what I never thought I was going to do. I am begging, begging anyone that can hear us to save us from dying. If anybody out there is listening to us, we are dying. And you are killing us with the inefficiency."

Have we had a single thread on this forum about PR that went more than 3 pages? You tune into CNN right now after this mayor made this dire warning and they're spending an hour talking about how rich asshole Tom Price resigned. The sheer apathy towards people who are SUPPOSED to be our fellow citizens is making me livid.

The media, the government, and Americans in general have failed, and are still failing, Puerto Rico and I doubt anyone will care.

America or Americans have never given a fuck about Puerto Rico so this isn't really surprising.

TEXAS (state & local debt): $469 billion
FLORIDA (state & local debt): $125 billion
PUERTO RICO (all debt): $73 billion

Yes, why does he keep bringing it up... I wonder.

in fairness those states are like ten times the size of puerto rico. It's a crippling amount of debt for the size of the economy and the population.

Even if he personally is a completely callous individual, even if his administration is full of selfish and thoughtless fools, you would think that someone, somewhere in that building, understands the value of at least appearing to have some compassion instead of talking only about debts at this time.

You think Trump cares what his aides tell him to do? We already know he's gone against the advice of his staff frequently.

After this Puerto Rico and Dems need to push super hard for statehood. Puerto Rico needs congressional representation beyond just a delegate. They have no one fighting for millions of American citizens directly in the US. It’s shameful.

In all fairness. If Trump still had his golf resorts in PR and didn't send them to bankruptcy.. ( his fav hobby) am sure he would be working harder in PR.

I’m never gonna doubt myself again if this guy can be leader of the free world well anything is possible

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
I'm fully expecting a future Civ game to have Trump replace Dan Quayle as the lowest ranked leader. The only real question is which infamous quote they'll leave beside his name.

"No puppet! No puppet! You're the puppet."
It works on so many levels.

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Jesus, you can just track his thought process. "Google, where is Puerto Rico? Google, what is Puerto Rico? Google, what is an island? Google...what is ocean?"

I have to hand it to him, I don't think I have ever used the term "Big Water" to describe anything since I was 5 years old.

Honest question..

Is Trump smart??

Or was he a lucky no one that got a kick start in life with his daddy's money?

Seriously? He seems almost retarded when he tweets and am sure I just offended real handicapped people in comparison.

He is exceedingly stupid.

Only the biggest water, probably the biggest ever that anyone has ever seen. Tremendous water, very wet and salty.

"The response and recovery effort probably has never been seen for something like this"

I'm finding it very hard to parse this sentence

In the wake of this disaster that affects so many people, I'm glad he was able to drop some wisdom and help constituents differentiate Puerto Rico from the multitude of islands that are

  • located in small to medium bodies of fresh water, such as ponds or lakes
  • suspended in the air
  • surrounded by lava
  • rendered inaccessible by eternally burning fires

Clearly Trump was waiting for the mayor to drop to his knees and humiliate himself before he would send help. Dat fourth dimensional golf game in action. /s.

Trump's victim blaming game is absolutely abhorrent, and hopefully Puerto Rico can get the aid it desperately needs, whether it be with or without the US.

The media are barely talking about PR. Just did a search on CBC's main page, nothing.

It takes 2 hrs only to fly to PR from FL, it's not that far away. There is tons of rescue and aide teams standing by now for almost 10 days who can't get the go ahead to go. Supplies, and help is there, it's ready, but they aren't being allowed on the island.

Teams that did get in early to help, are sitting around doing nothing, because they can't get anyone in the government, fema, or military to point to or get them where they need to go. Doctors, drivers, rescuers, firefighters, all sitting around waiting for transportation.

And there is help waiting to go, it's a quick trip to PR, we have magical devices called air planes, yet air travel is being still heavily restricted. The airforce and navy need to take over and perform heavy air traffic control and get the supplies and aide to the island NOW

I'm about as pissed as anyone at this moment given the amount of family I have on the island, but the Military isn't the White House.

Air travel is restricted because the Military isn't yet finished(at least to a satisfactory degree anyway) clearing airfields around the island. The Air force in particularly, can't operate much in the way of equipment without airfields to operate them on.

The Navy and USMC have 2 Amphibious Assault ships(USS Wasp and Kearsarge) and an Amphibious Dock Ship(USS Oak hill) who had been attending to the Island of Dominica previously and could only spare limited support but are now able to fully commit to PR.

The USNS Comfort, one of only 2 dedicated hospital ships in the USN's inventory is en route to the island.

There are 52 Helicopters of differing types(Blackhawks, Seahawks, Stallions ect..) currently operating in the area performing Med-evac, Search and Rescue, Supply delivery ect...

The Army has deployed a 3 star general alongside a Brigadier General and some logistical specialist units from Ft. Bragg and Carson recently to coordinate the land clearings and supply delivery efforts more efficiently. The Army Corps of Engineers has also currently working with the government to address infrastructure issues.

Rest assured, the military is doing plenty in ways the white house is not.
