Trunks is useless (DBZ Thread)

I'm probably the only DB/Z fan that enjoyed the series all the way through til completion (and enjoyed GT to an extent though if I wouldn't mind GT being remade with a new storyline. None of that Black Star Dragonball crap) or at least it feels like it when I see these threads.

I didn't realize until a year ago or so that Goku never really killed anyone in DBZ himself til Buu. Kinda funny thinking about that now lol.

I also hope Teamfourstar goes to the kid Buu Saga, wouldn't mind seeing how they handle it. :D

I actually enjoyed the whole series with the exception of GT. GT was garbage.

My only issue with Buu saga was the change of focus to Goku at the end. Like, I enjoyed the ending but it should have been Gohan and someone else who finished off Kid Buu.

The History of Trunks was damn good. Best version of Gohan, too

So true, one armed Gohan was too real. Also Trunks transformation scene was so sad and beastly at the same time.

Understandable and I agree to an extent however I did enjoy the stuff with Vegeta while Goku was fighting Buu. It was a fantastic scene imo for people who have watched it since the start of DBZ at least.

but you gotta admit that moment when he sliced freeza in half was pretty badass.

he also did cure goku's heart thing which is way better than most of the cast.

Where he finally accepts his homoerotic feelings?

Krillin only goes for chicks with major issues.

He was able to get her because every guy with half a brain was staying faaaaaaaaaar away from that.

A fembot who basically orchestrated the holocaust while in a bonnie/clyde relationship with her brother.

Nope, no issues there.

He did surpass Vegeta in raw power but Vegeta outclassed him in intelligence.

It was implied that Vegeta knows that Ultra SSJ form, but did not use it because it slows his body down. Trunks was a fool to use it. Vegeta said Trunks was slightly weaker than him.

He was still able to wife dat. Winner.

DBZ should have ended after the Frieza saga. All this SSJ 2, 3, and 4 bs watered down the series.

Well, 4 isn't really canonical (Super Saiyan God, on the other hand, is) but I really think the second Super Saiyan form (with Gohan's latent/hidden power) isn't so bad. it's the ones after that...

I dunno man, returning to the future was pretty awesome. "Oh hey, I see you lurking in the shadows. You're not going to the past Cell"

Cell: "whut"

Plus the history of Trunks is cool. It has the coolest Gohan.

Cell saga messed everything up when everyone and their mother became a super Saiyan. Then the buu saga made it worse.

Tokugawa should have died and gonna should have only turned supersaiyan near the end of the saga.

That's because the saga is a real mess. So inconsistent with power levels, and story focus. And yet so many people love it for some reason. I mean I get that it tells a lot of story post-Cell saga, but it's so inconsistent in it's focus and delivery. Let's spend all this time focusing on Gohan, let's have Goku decide not to kill Buu to give his sons a chance to carry the torch, and let's spend at least 15 episodes unlocking Gohan's hidden potential they always showed from the start, only to have him be absorbed quickly and then killed later with the Earth explosion so he can't even help in the final battle.

To me, the Saiyan, Namek and Frieza sagas were the best.

Cell was a better more fleshed out villain than Frieza.

True but I feel like the Frieza saga ended perfectly with the most powerful being in the universe being blown up and Goku emerging as the legendary super saiyan. The Cell saga had so much stupid nonsense. Why didn't Piccolo kill Cell when he had the chance? Or Vegeta? Why didn't the androids hide? So much nonsensical jobbing to pad out the story and the whole SSJ2 thing lost its impact after the Frieza arc. Oh wow his hair got spikier and there's electricity, tight.

Cell used Taiyoken (Solar Flare) on Piccolo and escaped.

Vegeta is pretty much Cell's ally in the arc if you think about it, he wants him to be powered up he can defeat him at his greatest power. He even tried to help find the androids (16 and 18 were in hiding, btw) so Cell could attain his perfect form. This is the same Vegeta that wanted Freeza to attain his final form because he thought he could beat him even then. Vegeta's hubris is always his downfall, in the Android/Cell arc his hubris was pretty much what propelled Cell's power ups.

No because broly

" but child wonder and adventure and..."

Thats neat, anime hulk.

Also sick ass fights, also fusion.

Dragon ball does have Arale Nomaki , so thats a plus.

Broly is shit and the King Piccolo and Piccolo Jr. arcs are better than most DBZ arcs.

That's what always got me. Sure. They could bring dead vegeta to the planet to help fight, but Goku never thought of getting Gohan instead, who was of course more powerful than useless Vegeta. The end of the Buu saga would have had a more light hearted feeling to it since ssj3 goku and mystic gohan could have played volleyball with buu for awhile and then just killed him whenever they felt like it.

Also I agree. Fuck trunks most of the time except for those shining moments where he was somewhat helpful. He was annoying.

So basically a bunch of trap card BS

All the thing you said that was wrong with the buu saga happens in every saga.

Trunks' big entrance is the highlight of his character, and also the highlight of his wasted potential. Other cool moments from him, most of which involve him not fighting or losing:

-Going ascended Super Saiyan. This moment makes him look dumb in comparison to Goku and Vegeta, who could also do this, but realized it was worthless. He is much younger than them, though, so he kind of gets a pass here.

-Attacking 18 to save Vegeta. His sword breaks and he gets wrecked. But this is also how we find out that these Androids are stronger than his Androids.

-Basically everything plot related in the Android arc and a good amount of plot related stuff in the Cell arc. What he doesn't do in battle, he kind of makes up for in story importance. Still upset he never had a real fight with an Android like Piccolo did, though.

-This was already mentioned, but his death is what made Vegeta go nuts on Cell, which was the first time we really saw Vegeta show concern for anyone but himself. It also let Gohan beat Cell.

-Him returning to his time and destroying the Androids and Cell with little effort was so immensely satisfying, and probably just as great as his fight against Frieza and King Cold. The beginning and the end of his screen time are the only two times where he really gets to shine.

-History of Trunks is the most interesting story in the entire series. I love how it shows the "real" timeline, has the best version of Gohan, and shows how Trunks was able to awaken his Super Saiyan transformation.

-His present day counterpart is fun to watch because you can see both a cozier life and Vegeta's influence on him. He's such a cocky, snarky little kid. Granted, he is only 8. I wish they had gone forward a few more years for the Buu arc and at least had him at the same age he was in History of Trunks.

But, yeah, he is mostly wasted potential. It's also a shame that he loses his sword so early on, too, because that's really what made him unique.

Everybody was useless except Goku, and maybe Gohan. Then they made Gohan useless.

That's why Vegeta vs Everybody was the peak of DBZ. Goku came back super strong, but it still took everybody who was still alive to take Vegeta down.

Trunks was crucial for the defeat of Cell, him being mortally wounded in front of Vegeta set him off and allowed for Vegeta to counter attack cell while he was fighting Gohan. If it wasn't for Trunks, Cell would have never been beaten.

Up until then, he didn't do much aside from crying, going ascended with Vegeta was cool and all but meh. History of Trunks was pretty damn good though.

Gohan would never have had to save Vegeta's ass if Vegeta didn't charge Cell after Cell attacked Trunks.

Gohan lost the use of an arm because Trunks and Vegeta were there. A fresh SSJ2 Gohan would have taken Ultra Perfect Cell just fine.

Trunks was pretty rad. I wish I had one of those jackets. Though it would look less cool on me, imagine buu wearing it and you get a good idea.

His debut was so amazing, I was never that excited before that moment. And he was as useless as every other character, aside from Goku. And kid trunks as a character sucks, but I rewatched the tournament fight between trunks and Goten and it was definitely one of the better fights in that whole season. Nobody has plot armor and you get to enjoy a fight where you can see the fists and kicks more.

My biggest problem with Goku is that he keeps showing up even if only for a second to be a ghost or something. Gohan needed to be able to stand up on his own for the movie to mean anything and Goku just shows up (this was fine for Gohan v Cell but Bojack, the other movies and the Buu saga...not really). I remember hearing that fans wanted Goku and that Gohan was supposed to take over but Toriyama decided to listen to the fans. That is why Goku was supposed to stay dead after Cell. I think that was a mistake to listen to the fans and bring him back. It would have been better if Gohan could overcome cell too....
