Ubisoft stock drops over 9% after Assassin's Creed Unity launch

It seems like Watch Dogs has much less to go on as far as sequels. There's no historical value and no various nations with their own architecture. It's going to be U.S. city number 2 doing the exact same things. At least AC games have a decent setting going for them.

Agreed, but still, there's some potential for at least another 2, 3 main line titles. Then comes the inevitable universe building with an AC WD cross over.

Well done Ubisoft

i hear it's running nice and more importantly is fun, on current PCs at least.

But PC is not where the 76 metacritic is coming from. And the fact that the PS4 version runs worse by about 20% and yet has 81 metacritic? Going by that site seems to be fucked because they segregate the versions and have done so in a way that makes the PS4 version seem like it's the better one when it's not, by 20% fps.

Here's another fun fact a person who looks into the game files came to the conclusion that the release is actually a dev branch

Yes, but a website like Yahoo picking up on it might be a good sign, it might get word out that Ubisoft have been on a slide into EA-esque release of half-finished games and repulsive in-your-face microtransactions, and be the start of a trend.

At least, I hope so.

I don't know what you're implying with the EA comparison; EA's stock price is at a 5 year high...

The market doesn't react the way people ITT seem to think that it does.

20fps with lock ups and freezes is barely functional to me. I don't know about you, but I come to Gaf to hear what other people think about games. In this case, it was the vast majority that thought it was a mess. Why should I spend $60 on a game I know it would return and I wouldn't be able to play? You have to learn that people have a right to have an opinion different than yours, and generally will have different bars of tolerance than you do to many things. If you've fallen off a map and was ok with it good for you. But I can't stand that shit. Not for $60.

I have nothing against people having a different opinion than my own. What I am against is people passing there uninformed opinion as fact. Many people who HAVE played the game do not think its barely functional.

I'm just going to stay out of these Ubisoft threads. I'm always on the losing side :/

Meh, I am enjoying the game, Paris is beautiful. I haven't encountered one glitch since returning the PS4 version for the Xbox One version.

I also got it for $44 with tax and all here in Canada because of E3 deals, so I can't complain about the price.

In my six hours playing on PS4, I've noticed two glitches. One of them because I knew how to go out of my way to trigger it from watching a video yesterday. If the game is as glitchy as they say, I must just be reeeeaaaally lucky. Safe to say the vast majority of criticism is coming from people who haven't played the game and never will. I'm not saying the game has no issues. But my god, the extreme hyperbole.

Let's be honest. This is about Ubisoft's shitty PR. People are sick of it and Ubi probably does deserve a paddlin' for it. But goddamn it you fuck heads, Unity is NOWHERE NEAR as bad as the impression given by the shit storm. After six hours I think it's best since AC2. If the game later suddenly becomes a glitch apocalypse, I'll let you know.

They've been averaging 12-13 euro for the last few months. There was a surge near end of Oct which seems pretty normal considering video game release trends. Now they're back at the average they've been hovering at all year. This isn't the huge blow to their stock price as people here seem to think it is.

The fact is that there are enough technical issues that cause some gamers to feel that it is barely functional.

Nobody has ever said the PS4 or XBO versions of AC4 were "barely functional". Because the game ran at 30fps without any real issues. Therefore it is a failure on Ubisoft's part that their latest AC game can even garner those reactions from any gamers at all. Not being 30fps is pretty inexcusable. Cut back NPC's, do SOMETHING. Dips into the teens should not be acceptable in this new generation.

I don't have any issue with the game myself, but so far the locked DLC/companion-app chests really annoyed me. Also died a couple of time because weird lag out of nowhere. I wish I didn't pre-order it and have waited.

Look like the series is getting Star Trek'ed, good entries alternating with disappointment entries.

Not this again. I thought we have learned that when something big gets released, stocks normally falling down because investors selling their shares to get maximum profit. It was the same with Activision and Destiny and has absolutely nothing to do how a game was received.

I wonder if Far Cry 4 will prop it back up, I am doubtful the crew would

you are DR3AM aren't you

you even have a jigglypuff avatar as before

LOL

I sincerely hope Ubisoft learn from this and use the experience to better their products in the future. I hope, but i don't expect.

Its people like YOU I dislike. Quick to want a company to fold but could care less about all of its 2600 employees in the Montreal Studio alone who have families to support and worked hard to try and put this game together. so FUCK YOU buddy.

This debacle rests on the top execs who decided to release the game in its current state.

You look sad, have you by any chance been part of this catastrophe called Unity? If anything, people like YOU are part of this fucking problem. Quick to want to forgive a multimillion company who doesn't even ship half-finished games, Unity is just UNFINISHED! There's nothing to add or detract from that, plain simple as it is. And you don't mind? You want to pay for this? How big of an unbelievably stupid fucking imbecile does one need to be? Might as well just transfer your funds to the execs, because those poor devs wanting to feed their families probably don't get much. Yet there you are, buying their games and then cursing at others who do see Ubisoft have fucked up big time. And even if you don't buy Ubi games, just NOT condemning this kind of behaviour poisons the gaming community as a whole, which I assume you're a part of.

I for one genuinely hope the devs who didn't have a part in Unity can find themselves a better job, but I want Ubisoft as a company to burn to the ground, as a matter of speech.

hope many people did what I did...picked it up and are sitting here holding an unopened package to see if anything is done in a week...if not return the POS....but I HIGHLY DOUBT anything will be fixed technical wise for this game, will probably just return it today to pre-order GTA or Dragon Age
Hopefully more people just don't buy the game unless this shit is fixed, let the game sit on the shelves and hit the bargain bin sooner.

Activison hasn't recovered from that so I'm not exactly sure what your implying.

I'm not suggesting anything about EA's stock, only their behaviour as a company. Of course, being a shit is fine when you're a corporation and people continue to hand over their money anyway. We can only hope that the market at large feels the same way about Unity.

This is awesome.

(not actually the dev branch, because it is the PC branch, but a developer version)

Blacklist was a fantastic game. And the best SC game ever made in my opinion. Everything about it was excellent.

Except the competitive. Can never get those PT days back. I'd even settle for CT. At least this one was a step in that direction. After Double Agen's SvM they could only go back towards PT though so.

Ubisoft had it coming. The AC franchise has been stagnant if not regressing, all the while butchering history along the way.

Yeah, ACIII sold 12M copies, ACIV sold 11M. Almost any other series not named Call of or Battlefield something would kill for that kind of stagnation.

Activison hasn't recovered from that so I'm not exactly sure what your implying.

I can't imagine someone who bought Activision stock in 2012 - most of 2013 being upset with the stock's performance.

All the people saying stuff like "good", do you ever think of the families of all the 7000 developers that worked crunch hours for weeks for this game?

I don't know. On my PC, the game looks gorgeous, and plays well. Is it really that much worse on the consoles?

While I don't doubt that there are some technical issues with the console versions, there are plenty of well regarded console games that have had technical problems. I'm begining to suspect that much of the vehement hatred is coming from people who are angry with Ubisoft for their PR goofs from a few weeks back.

As someone who leads a team of 4 people all working out of different DEV branches and then eventually merging them into MAIN and never having it work the first time this makes me cringe to no end. They had 10 studios working on this thing, forget about my 4 people. They probably tried to merge like 1 week before going gold, it didn't work, and they chose the best branch.

People make AC:Unity on consoles sound like (pre-patch) Lords of the Fallen on PC. We're back to this level of bald-faced lying again. Shit posters keep posting driveby shit with no actual critique and it constitutes the large majority of the content in Ubi threads right now.

Ubisoft are proven liars, but they're being way outclassed by the hit squad on GAF.

I'm playing it on PS4, and I was wondering if the PC version was the one with all of the problems.

With the way Ubi is structured, I doubt anyone will lose jobs since everyone works on everything and the state ACU launched in is on the execs that won't listen to anyone else. It's pretty clear that devs wouldn't want to launch the game as is.

Not only are the reviews coming in poor with a current Metacritic score of 76 on the Xbox One version

I feel like this sentence perfectly summarizes everything wrong with this industry right now in regards to review scores.

Granted, this is when you take this statement out of the context of Ubisoft's plethora of recent screw-ups.
