Ubisoft stock drops over 9% after Assassin's Creed Unity launch

Beautiful, hit them in the pockets

Hopefully they have a team working 24/7 to fix this trash, I really was looking forward to playing this

investors think about about the future. they think the AC franchise is on the decline.

I wonder if Far Cry 4 will prop it back up, I am doubtful the crew would

You can bet your ass that this is going to get the attention of a lot of Ubi executives. A 10% drop the day after you launch your biggest annual product is a fucking nightmare for a company.
The stock should be going up not down the following day. They deserve it. Well done ubi you only had one job.

I love how a Metacritic score of 75 out of 100 is considered "critically panned."

I believe it is for a AAA from an established franchise, because it's not usual for a AAA to be scored lower than 70 due to hype, expectations and quality of AAA, marketing, love of that franchise and whatever other reasons. So a 70 is pretty much as rock bottom as a AAA can go in usual cases. The 7-10 scale is a real thing, otherwise you won't be having publishers holding off bonus from devs for not reaching a score of 85 or so on Metacritic.

Oh boy, you're not one to talk. I'll wait until you come up with some actual points in this thread, but that'll be a cold day in hell.

Oh hey it's you again. Guess what this isn't my first post in this thread and i already voiced my opinion on it.

Nice try.

Hopefully a wakeup call for the greedy shits managing that company that you can't rush games and release broken garbage and get rewarded for it. They're losing the publics trust rapidly.

All the people saying stuff like "good", do you ever think of the families of all the 7000 developers that worked crunch hours for weeks for this game?

Yes. I wish their company didn't have such crappy policies, so that things might get better for them.

Sadly, the only way to get change is hit Ubisoft in the only place they understand.

RE: "76 is an average score, not a pan".

Yes, this is true.

However, if you were applying to med school, an average score would feel like a pan, because your point of reference is not an average score for the entire population, but rather an average score for people like you, who plan to apply for med school.

Likewise, here, a 76 is not a notably bad Metacritic, but is is perhaps a notably bad Metacritic for a product expected to sell certainly 5+ million and probably more like 10+ million, given the generally assumed link between product quality (for which Metacritic is a reasonable proxy, which is why companies care about it) and WOM sales spread over time.

On the upside, basically every major current-gen release has gotten unexpectedly low review scores--Destiny mid-70s, Watch_Dogs high 70s/80s, Titanfall mid-80s. I think all of these were titles where the publishers were hoping that, like last gen, they'd be in the high-80s/low-90s ranges. In Watch_Dogs' case, the game was delayed substantially to retool it after bad mock reviews and other discouraging feedback. So it's possible we are entering into an era where, yes, the "med school students" of gaming are getting 70s.

It's also not something that dooms Ubisoft. I understand that Watch_Dogs has done quite well over time. Even AC1 did not perform to expectations critically, but it laid a foundation for iteration later which paid off with the huge growth and success of AC as a series.

Mordor, on the other hand, has gotta be a huge win for WB. Arkham Asylum was an unexpected smash hit and Mordor's high-80s MC is tracking much closer to AA than anything else. I think like AA, Borderlands, and BioShock (all unexpected breakout hits from last gen), Mordor's score/WOM is going to carry it a long way.

Circling back: Yes, 76 is a "bad" MC for AC:U, and yes it's pretty clearly lower than what Ubisoft or Ubisoft investors expected or hoped for. That's possible even if on the overall it's not a bad MC. It's not the end of the world.

Destiny was profitable on day one, and Activision's stock dropped.

Again, the market does not behave the way a lot of people ITT seem to think it does / should.

Ubisoft was great publicher but now they just lie farcry 3 after wach dogs then ac and now more than grafics releasing unfiniched games

I love that they shoved it out the door to appease their shareholders.

And what do they get? A stock nosedive.

Absolutely brilliant.

You know you'd think they'd learn that it's in their best interests to make polished quality games. This isn't the early 90s when you could just shit out any liscensed turd onto the market and nobody will be any the wiser when they go buy it. There's this thing called the Internet where the exchange of information is so rapid that your piece of shit will be outed as such within minutes of hitting the market, and your millions of dollars of investment will burst into flames.

And not a single tear was shed.

Except for Ass Creed fans....

Why would AC fans be sad that Ubi took a financial hit for releasing a bad product?

The silver lining to this cloud is that this disaster might make them think twice about doing it again.

It's kind of insane to me that this broken and glitchy game is one point higher than the repetitive but solid Destiny on Metacritic. At least that game works and performs well.

True, and the market will probably bounce when/if Ubi announces "record breaking sales" on the game (for which the really well priced ACU+AC4 XB1 bundle will definitely help)... But it's good nonetheless to see the market reacting to a problem in quality for a game.

Might (one can hope) make publishers more weary of releasing a faulty product in the future... Maybe?

People make AC:Unity on consoles sound like (pre-patch) Lords of the Fallen on PC. We're back to this level of bald-faced lying again. Shit posters keep posting driveby shit with no actual critique and it constitutes the large majority of the content in Ubi threads right now.

Ubisoft are proven liars, but they're being way outclassed by the hit squad on GAF.
I'm playing the PS4 Version and it is fucking horrible. What are you talking about? Look at my last few posts, all actual experiences.

Good, they're getting what they deserve. They knew exactly how fucked up the game was and tried to hide it with their fucking embargo. I like the game, but I'll sell it as soon as I'm done with it.
I considered getting FC4 too, but there's no way in hell that Ubi will get any more money from me.

Good. Vote with your wallets, people!

Sadly no matter how many people vote with their wallet here, the majority of people outside of these forums don't care.

In fact, with the majority of people outside these kind of forums being the main bash of customers, has voting with are wallets ever worked? Honest question.

I think truthfully, the most effective way to cause change is really scream, bitch, and moan about it. It worked against Xbox One's always online console, it can work here again.

I hope this and the Activision stock drop after releasing AAA games with mediocre reviews serves as a wake-up call to these big pubs but honestly, who am I kidding? They'll still make boat loads of cash by pushing average crap out the door but propping them up with huge marketing budgets and review embargoes. :(

In my six hours playing on PS4, I've noticed two glitches. One of them because I knew how to go out of my way to trigger it from watching a video yesterday. If the game is as glitchy as they say, I must just be reeeeaaaally lucky. Safe to say the vast majority of criticism is coming from people who haven't played the game and never will. I'm not saying the game has no issues. But my god, the extreme hyperbole.

Let's be honest. This is about Ubisoft's shitty PR. People are sick of it and Ubi probably does deserve a paddlin' for it. But goddamn it you fuck heads, Unity is NOWHERE NEAR as bad as the impression given by the shit storm. After six hours I think it's best since AC2. If the game later suddenly becomes a glitch apocalypse, I'll let you know.

Agreed, I did have a lot of glitches on PS4 like major clipping, awful pop in, shadows not rendering, getting stuck in weird spots and others. But Xbox One has been fine, I am glad I switched, I may have just been unlucky on PS4 and got lucky on Xbox One.

I do agree that most people with this ridiculous hyperbole have not played the game or ever plan to.

You have some interesting double standards....which makes your opinion a little hard to take seriously.

Pretty funny, for some reason you and the other guy like to attack only me when there are so many more who share the same opinion on this company and the game but hey go ahead you're one of the biggest Unity defenders here, i'm sure we can take your opinion more serious.

I can't believe a barely functional game stands at 75/76 on metacritic. What the hell are reviewers smoking? If a game doesn't work, it should be given much, much lower scores.

The thing that i hate about reviewers in general is that if you took this game, the exact same game as we got but it WASN'T an Assassins Creed game, it was some new game without much hype behind it etc, reviewers would of panned it and made a huge fuss over the technical flaws.

Its corrupt to the core imo.

Yeah. A 76 is NOT a bad score.

There really is no good context for video game scores. The perception is that these games should get 85+. Anything below that in the world of video games is a disappointment.

It doesn't only have an impact on the current game's sales, but it also has an impact on the overall franchise and brand. These are important intangible sources of value for companies.

Even though game reviewers will say 75 isn't bad. It is bad. When you put numbers out there and allow them to be removed from the context of the review, you are responsible for misinterpretations and comparisons that are easily drawn from objective indicators of quality.

How can someone say the launch was "abysmal" when sales data hasnt even been released

also UBisofts stock droped 5 percent when Watch dogs was released

The most annoying thing about this thread to me is the posts by people who claim they haven't had any glitches or problems with the game, therefore everyone else complaining is full of shit. So juvenile and defensive; if you are lucky enough to not have problems just be glad for that, and keep your judgmental bs to your fucking self. It adds absolutely nothing to the topic at hand.

How does it add nothing? The fact people are able to play the game without the issues everyone is complaining about?

In that case how about all those who haven't even played the game just stop posting because THAT adds absolutely nothing to the topic.

Yeesh.

How does it add nothing?

It adds nothing because the issues are known. Whether an individual has experienced them (yet) is immaterial; we're no longer in a phase where we're questioning/debating/discovering whether the problems exist. The problems are well known. Attempting hand wave them away should really not be welcome.

I think that parity bullshit really bit them in the ass and caused gamers to look at more critically... Agree? Disagree?

Disagree. The internal disorganization and hard deadline that lead to the release of an unfinished product caused gamers to look at it more critically.

Just like Ubisoft, amirite

A little : )

I haven't seen too many people going after Ubi say it's ok for another company to do the same. And no, I haven't been defending Unity at all really.

Like it'll really make a difference. 9% ain't shit to a company like that. They'll make it up with U Play ready microtransaction full Fart Cries 4.

They'll learn nothing from this.
