UFC Unveils Its New Uniforms (Made By Reebok)

Seems like a lot of material to get a hold of for a sport that involves so much grappling. Maybe I missed it, but they're not expected to wear it all during a fight are they?

No, unified rules prohibit anybody from wearing a shirt and require a sports bra top for women.

I cant believe the chump change for wearing this. Does this mean their fight payouts have been bumped up, since I would imagine the UFC is pocketing much of the Reebok money?

No banners, no outside sponsors. Everyone but a few are taking a gigantic paycut.

Even chumps like Brendan Shaub were pulling $100k+ in sponsorship money.

Sweet babby jesus, this is horrendous.

UFC increased the minimum fighter pay from 8,000 to 10,000.

edit: Also, technically, UFC is paying more because of the sponsorship deals which are separate from fighter pay. UFC did not pay out sponsorship money before, fighters worked out their own deals. So it can be said (and certainly would while the UFC is trying to look not godawful in this situation) that they're paying up to 40K more per fight. But the reality is that most fighters will be losing a lot more money than that with these new deals since they can't negotiate their own sponsorships for clothes or logos.

What happened?

UFC was supposed to be the biggest thing a few years ago. Now it's all negativity I read about it. :/

The business wizards that run UFC were operating under the impression that a fad never passes, especially not if you flood the market with a substandard product.

Looks awful.

Rousey manages to look cool in the champion's uniform but they're pretty bland.

The regular ones are absolutely horrific.

Some more Twitter fun:

Big Ben Rothwell @RothwellFighter

Yo @Reebok my name is BEC.. only my mother can call me Rebecca

Can someone tweet something positive about Reebok uniforms so my Twitter reactions don't look like I exclusively follow negative assholes?

Josh Samman @JoshSamman
I have really, really enjoyed the MMA media reaction to today's fashion show. Also, I think my tongue is bleeding.

UFC president Dana White spoke with Ariel Helwani after the unveilng of the new Reebok Fight Kit apparel.

"These aren't really my kind of things," acknowledged White, about the fashion show feel of the unveiling. "So I was really happy with this. I actually had a good time."

"At the end of the day, that's all that matters - that the fighters like it," said White. "And everybody is happy with it. So far. The people that have been involved with this love it. They did a great job in the design, and it serves the purpose it's supposed to serve.

"Depending on what type of shorts, if you like the Muay Thai shorts, they have them. If you like the spandex-y type shorts, they have them. If you like the board shorts, they have them. The innovative stuff that they've done for the girls, with the bras and the bottoms. For the first time ever, technology has been put into the fight gear and the training gear for fighters."

"Change always freaks everybody out. Miesha came up to me last night and said 'I didn't realize I would have so much input into what we wore. This is awesome.' Gustafsson leaned over to me and Lorenzo during this thing and said 'This is so cool, thanks for making me a part of this.'

"So there's always a lot of negativity and fear in the unknown,

Everyone loves it. Stop being negative and fearful of the unknown, keyboard warriors.

Here's an interesting thing - people have expressed when seeing physiques like Roy Nelson and CM Punk that they're less likely to buy the UFC events, so it makes sense they'd want to cover them up. Nelson's not the most photogenic guy, but I can see how people feel it would cheapen the experience if everyone isn't looking like GSP, physically.

There's obviously still room for heavyweights, but when you're at a lower weight class, expectations are different. Boxing went through the same issues years ago.

It would be so much better if the "uniforms" were like European football jerseys, with "fake" logos about the fighters and or their styles, oh well.

They're gonna have to do an Xbox one style reversal on all of this eventually right? They pissed off the majority of their fighters with this it's going to hurt them sooner if not later.

These just have no personality. I feel like with this deal at least they could have an official designer to come up with logos the fighters like and have it in the tshirt design. This was a maaajor mistep for the UFC. Hopefully Bellator decides to capitlize on decisions and capture unhappy ufc guys.

How long are most of these fighters players signed for right now? That's how long I give the UFC

Where's the hats!? Can they still bring in 3rd party hats and headphones? And what about sponsors for commercials featuring fighters? They can still make that cash right?
