UFC's Polyana Viana says mugging ended in predictable and bloody fashion

The population of Rio de Janeiro is just over 6 million. On Saturday night, an alleged mugger managed to pick out a UFC fighter among those multitudes.

UFC strawweight Polyana Viana says she was waiting for an Uber when she was approached by a man claiming to have a gun. The results weren’t pretty.

“When he saw I saw him, he sat next to me,” Viana told MMAJunkie. “He asked me the time, I said it, and I saw he wasn’t going to leave. So I already moved to put my cell phone in my waist. And then he said, ‘Give me the phone. Don’t try to react, because I’m armed.’ Then he put his hand over [a gun], but I realized it was too soft.

“He was really close to me. So I thought, ‘If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it.’ So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick. He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, ‘Now we’ll wait for the police.’”

Viana posted photos, which later appeared on UFC president Dana White’s Instagram feed, of her bloodied and bruised alleged attacker. She kept him in a hold until police arrived. She says the man’s wounds were treated before he was taken to the station, where Viana filed a police report.

“I was fine,” Viana said. “I was fine because he didn’t even react after. Since he took the punches very quickly, I think he was scared. So he didn’t react anymore. He told me to let him go, like ‘I just asked for the time.’ I said, ‘Asked for the time my ass,’ because he saw I was very angry. I said I wouldn’t let go and that I was going to call the police. He said, ‘Call the police, then’ because he was scared I was going to beat him up more.”

Viana has won 10 of her 12 professional fights, and is known for finishing off opponents quickly. Until a loss on points in August she had won five fights in succession in the first round.

One reason to watch UFC if you're a criminal. Poor sod.

I looked around and didn’t see anyone, so I sat down and started playing Free Fire on my phone.
Great marketing for them.

According to Viana, he had just been released recently after serving three years for armed robbery.
Did not learn his lesson before, I wonder if he'll learn it now.

My friends and I used to play a game where we tried to think of the most deceiving looking fighters in MMA. Like the “drunk guy tries to bully the wrong person at a bar without knowing better and gets an Oh Shit awakening” scenario

Guys like Joe Lauzon for example.

My first pick was always Roy Nelson. Like if you didn’t know better you would just see a sloppy fat guy and if you crossed the line with him you’d be absolutely decimated.

A lot of female fighters fall into that category.

First guy to call Khabib Dumbo was probably the last.

Roy Nelson is top tier for that sorta thing for sure. I remember when he got on the scene and I think Burger King was sponsoring him lol.
I have only been to one UFC event in person but most of the fighters have very imposing bodies. Anthony Johnson was chilling in the crowd but the dude is a monster of a human.

Apparently Duke Roufus was getting some heat at a bar in Milwaukee a few years back from two bodybuilder type guys who didn't know who he was. The three of them walked outside and only Duke came back in.

Yeah that’s a big mistake.

On a kind of side note, it seems like when you see bodybuilder types in street fight videos they often have no idea how to fight and get KO’d

It's always astounding to me how out of shape these people are when they spend so much time in the gym..

Bodybuilders and Strength trainers build strength/bodies, they don't fight. Most people don't know how to fight, so 99% of the time a bodybuilder is massively advantaged by having ~30% greater upper body strength. Problem is the beef cakes get big heads and start engaging in street fights with actual street fighters. In fact they are a primary target of street fighters who approach big guys in clubs and pubs and try to set up hobby fights with some betting on the side. Many freelance lax rules fight clubs exist all over the place.

This girl looks very cute, I do not believe that she could do it.
She is cute and all.
But just looking at her body, she aint the one to mess with.
Not that im planning on robbing anyone, but she would be towards the bottom of my list of possible targets.

Even in the picture above of her from that day it is plainly obvious that she is pretty fit and he... is not. So even if she wasn't a professional fighter he would have been well advised not to try that. He would have probably ended up less damaged if she wasn't a UFC fighter, but he would still have a hard time.

>using the term manlet
It is like you are one of THOSE guys from BB. Talking just like the type of person you are describing in your second post.

I just feel like people here weren't aware of how normative people are starting to appear(granted she is super fit) that train and know how to fight. The amount of people that have training nowadays is massive compared to 10 years ago and way bigger to prior. More people in the past were specialists(focusing on one art) and now people are more well rounded. Especially with the explosion of BJJ. You can easily cross a Roy Nelson or Polyana Viana at the wrong time nowadays.

Cowering thief even begged the Brazilian MMA star to call the cops as he was afraid of another beating after targeting the wrong person.
https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/8135636/ufc-polyana-viana-beats-up-robber/

The Brazilian was waiting for her Uber in Rio de Janeiro when the misguided criminal demanded she hand over her phone. After claiming he had a gun, Viana punched and kicked the would-be-robber before locking him in a rear-naked choke hold.
Viana, 26, kept the man in a submission while she waited for police to arrive. She told MMA Junkie: "When he saw I saw him, he sat next to me. "He asked me the time, I said it, and I saw he wasn’t going to leave. So I already moved to put my cell phone in my waist. And then he said, 'Give me the phone. Don’t try to react, because I’m armed.' "Then he put his hand over [a gun], but I realised it was too soft." The 'gun' turned out to be a cardboard cut-out. Viana added: "He was really close to me. So I thought, ‘If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it.’ So I stood up I threw two punches and a kick.

You guys better watch who you are trying to rob.

Ha ha, no you can't. These are some of the best fighters on the planet. You're more likely to be struck by lightning. Also there's a reason fights have weight classes. If her assailant had been a 300lbs big boi she would have had a really bad time, skills or no skills. But these thieves are broad spectrum opportunists. A 300lbs wanker would have far more options, including assailing 240lbs men.

You never know nowadays, theres a group that comes to my local pub ( two 40+ and one mid 50s) and these guys are a bit chubby and I would've never guessed they were bjj instructors and the older one was a master at kapap.

Never assume.

You missed the point entirely that was made by ignoring the point and taking the last part literal. The guy 2 posts after you got it. No DUH you aren't going to cross a UFC Fighter/Caliber person just walking around lol. You are more likely to run into a movie star randomly.
