9/11 this year will be the 5th anniversary. Makes you wonder if there's a bigger picture. :\

Yes, I'd agree that any little thing triggers the right to violate all kinds of rights to privacy, etc. can be very annoying...

I really don't mind if they enforce these rules, if they do it properly and for the right reasons. I just don't want an abuse of power.

MrSardonic, you really should move out of that bomeshelter and stop wearing tin foil hats you know. Might do you some good. What's you're writing is just disgusting and untrue. It sounds like YOU'RE the one who's scared.

all prefume and alcohol based products have now been banned as carry-on luggage on all flights to the US. No duty free then basically, sucks for the airports.

i agree with sardonic, the government made htis up to control us. but even if they didnt its jsutified by policys that pisses off poor peopel and makes them want to kills themsevles. im for it tho because i want to be in control of all of you when i grow up. like in judge dredd.

Can't wait to see how long it takes them to use the 'M' word. It's like saying the word Voldemort in the Harry Potterverse. They dare not speak its name.

how much damage could a milk bottle sized bomb do?

uh, it could easily blow a hole in the side of the fuselage, which would easily bring a plane down.

Really, how big are the "plastic explosives" that you see them use in movies and such?

Isn't it a bit early to be playing this type of card? Surely later on in November I would realize that they'll exaggerate things like this for political gain, but I don't think anyone made this up.

Sarcasm, man. Sarcasm.

Diablos, I hope one day science can cure your complete lack of common sense and sarcasm detection.

Maybe they will find the gene you are missing.

OMG your so naive! Remember Karl Rove saying he was going to do everything he could to help Jomentum win?? And then this just *happens* to appear out of nowhere the next day?

they didn't make it up but they're sure as hell going to capitalise on it. Reid has been a laughing stock due to all the Home Office scandals and recently had several defeats against judges on whether or not he should be allowed to lock people up even though no evidence or charges have ever been put forward. they'll bring up the topic of ID cards and control orders even though none of those things had anything to do with preventing this attack.

and lol at all the simpletons who fell for the whole "war on terror" hook. it's for your own protection, really...

Dude, there is no "War on Terror." It's all a ruse concocted by the Bush White House, so that he can purse his neoconservative agenda. Move along. Nothing to see here.

Usually I don't agree with MrSardonic, but on this topic he's 100% correct. We saw the whole fear-mongering BS here in Canada recently with the arrest of the so-called "terrorists" just north of Toronto. Funny that sort of thing goes down soon after we get our own Bush-like government in place aka Stephen Harper.

When air travel only over the US was banned for 3 days following 9/11, there was a 1C temperature swing, the largest recorded for some 100 years

There was another choice quote where Sardonic calls the human species the most cataclysmic event to ever happen to Earth. But I can't find it.

Why is it the only thing I can think is that the security is going to be even more retardedly anal on my flight tomorrow.

And honestly, maybe I'm a little delusional from lack of sleep, but the whole thing sounds really stupid. Blowing up planes over the ocean? Thats pretty retarded considering how vicious 9-11 was.

US airports are at code red, which has never happened before in the years since 9/11. So I'd say this was pretty serious. Also, if you're flying today in the US, I'd get to the airport super early.

And i thought Hans and Hajaz were the only 2 ****ed-up lunatics here. Guess I was wrong.

Welcome to the tin hatter club, Sardonic.
Pick up your new tin hat at the door please.

Well I thought those guys in Liberty City Miami was pretty retarded but I don't know if this because it sounds like these guys where weeks away if not days away from getting it done.

Funny how we never hear about those Liberty City people anymore :/

Early reports have been saying that they were planning on blowing up the planes simultaneously. The loss of life may not have been as severe as 9/11, but the emotional impact would have been pretty high.

I didn't say that the current situation is a complete fabrication (or "made up" like the Canary Wharf story Blunket "leaked" to the press) if that is what you are implying. Nor did I ever deny that some attacks have obviously happened.

What I suggested was that the government(s) have intentionally AND unintentionally exaggerated the threat and used this climate of fear and propaganda to excuse fundamental changes to the relationship between the citizenry and the police/government that confer ever greater powers to the police/government and ever fewer rights to the citizenry. The propaganda offensive we have been exposed to over the last week in the UK should be clear enough for anyone with any common sense - worse than Hitler? unimagineable mass murder? threat to our way of life?...are they talking about Stalin? or maybe Satan on earth?

If some people think that this is not the case then I'd ask them to look at little closer. Individual acts of terrorism - whether real, fabricated, or exaggerated (often all 3 at once) - only serve the government's agenda. They are shameless in instantly using these situations for political purposes - and that does not mean simply getting re-elected. It's funny to see people saying this is "tin hat" talk when this is exactly the kind of stuff that has been publically discussed by some politicians, Lords, journalists, historians, anthropologists, and so on, for several years.

Except that the 1C swing following 9/11 was scientifically measured. Hawkings' theories on blackholes look to be incorrect, being an astrophysicist means shit when it comes to the validity of your opinions in other areas, and he has gained mainstream fame as an "Einstein-like genius" (which he is not) largely due to condescending admiration from the press and public.

I never said that "the human species the most cataclysmic event to ever happen to Earth"...what I said, a repetition of many comments from biologists in published scientific articles (which I linked to), is that the actions of human beings over the last century are causing one of the largest mass extinction events known.

Wow, all kinds of things are being banned from flights.
Mostly liquids, but laptops and iPods too! Holy shit!

Have they said if these measures are temporarily for the day/week or for the long-term?

al-Qaeda loves their anniversaries:

Bali bombings - 1 year, 1 month, and 1 day after 9/11
Madrid bombings - 912 days after 9/11
Today - 5 years (minus 1 month and 1 day) since 9/11

there was a bombing today?

yes.

MrSardonic said:

No (not that I know of :)). I was just pointing out how today's date is eerily similar to the days in which al-Qaeda actually DID carry out an attack.

I'm at work (and I've been making stops all over the place) and I just got back in and happened to go to MSNBC.com. I'm still learning what exactly happened today.

While I applaud the successful investigation, interception and apprehension of suspects and the prevention of this attack, I just can't help but wonder at the timing of the announcement itself, coming so quickly on the heels of Lieberman's primary election defeat -- a defeat that occurred because of Lieberman's support for the war in Iraq. It's probably just a coincidence, but I have to admit that my first thought was that it was a warning that people really need to support the war in Iraq and the Bush administration, because they're our only hope against turrists. And it's a great distraction from the Israel/Lebanon mess.

wait, I don't see how any of those are anniversaries. I mean, they look like completely arbitrary amounts of time unless i'm not seeing "the pattern"

On my plane journey next month, they better let me use my laptop. A bored marvelharvey is far more cranky than jihad terrorist, I don't want 12 hours of having to watch shitty 'family' movies on a 6inch screen.

I shouldn't have used "anniversary", and it's not like a "pattern", either. I guess it would be more along the lines of an "allusion to" 9/11.

So wait, some people are happy about this because it allows them to mock people who question the War On Terror? :lol Awesome. So either hat, tin-hat or asshole, always fits!

Why, that's is the most crazy, completely off-the-wall thing I have ever read. It's as if you're speaking another language even.

No, but there damn well could have been in the air

my point was that the police themselves have said that the alleged plot was not planned to occur today or even in the next days/weeks.

Take 1 year (365) 1 month (30) and 1 day (1), add them together and then multiply by 911. Then paste the corresponding letters into Wingdings and you see a series of pictures that strongly resemble the bottom-left quadrant of osama bin laden's beard.

Blowing out a window wont stop a plane.

In fact, although US media didnt report it, a TAM Fokker-100 had to go back to Sao Paulo the other day because its door fell off. This is not the first time TAM has had a door fall off one of their Fokkers.

Fokker fokker fokker.
they should have retired all their goddman fokkers years ago, ****ing cramped planes, I always end up getting one when leaving sao paulo after coming back from the US
