UK Woman has her Laptop seized by Police over NSFW Skyrim Mods

There is no law which would allow this, I call bullshit
I've been reading the reddit thread and apparently they passed a law against "extreme porn":

Another commenter says the public was basically bamboozled in allowing this law to get passed:

Also on topic it seems the guy tried to seduce the wife and she rejected him and then he reported her:

So he's just a bitch that couldn't deal with rejected.

I was gonna say, what sort of complete fucking idiot calls the cops about this, but apparently it's the same kind of fucking idiot that tries to hook up with someone else's wife at the kind of party where people bring laptops and play videogames.

The state of it, for all involved.

As creepy as it can be, at some point animated, drawn, or whatever artificially created porn just has to be ruled as totally legal. It's just lines on a sheet of paper or pixels on a screen, nothing living is actually harmed, no matter how extreme it may look, barring an attempt to pass it off as a real photo, video, or whatever.

Just look at the violence end of that same spectrum. We have PHOTOREAL games of 100% nonstop dismemberment, beheadings, gibbing, etc but few bat an eye because no one is actually being hurt. same with porn.

The arguments that realistic CG can be used to mask real sex trafficking or snuff films or whatever just seem like reaching to me, I gotta think there is a very select and very sick market for that stuff and it doesn't overlap with spicy VNs, game mods, or stuff like that. It just seems silly to have age and relationship disclaimers on that stuff as if it were an actual acting gig with real people. I dunno, maybe I'm only skimming the froth on top and the well goes much much deeper and I'm just naive. I'm sure Rule 34 is worse than I'm aware and some creators just can't limit themselves.

Maybe they get her laptop not because of mods, but because Skyrim is so damn buged that its against the law.

So not only did our shitty Gov sneak this through but it requires someone sad enough to snitch, and this ended up being that opportunity because he was angry she didn't want to fuck him. 😂

I knew this was bullshit. Who takes a laptop to a "Party"? Even if she did leave it behind how did the friend know the password to get into the laptop?

Honestly I'm thinking of reporting Baldurs Gate III just so I can see them lose the public battle with this legislation. They would have to try and demonise one of the most popular games with critical acclaim played by millions by saying its only played by sexual deviants.

Would love to see then try.

Are we 100% the guy who got rejected and reported her to the police didn't mention something else and not just Skyrim mods? I have a feeling we're missing out some stuff from the story because all of this because of just some Skyrim mods is laughable.

what the actual fuck is going on with the laws in the UK.

Stupid politicians needing to be seen to be doing something, combined with overly broad and/or vague definitions that have always plagued UK law.

For example: obscenity and indecency. Both of those can be illegal depending on the circumstance, but good luck trying to find a solid definition of either in the law as written.

In terms of the law potentially fallen foul of here: in the 80's (IIRC) there were a bunch of convictions of gay men in the BDSM scene. Those convictions were widely viewed as miscarriages of justice for prosecuting people for completely consensual acts, as well as potentially driven by homophobia. When the new "extreme porn" legislation was up for consultation, the government didn't get the memo about them being miscarriages of justice, and instead used them as an example to show that porn containing such acts should be prosecuted.

the UK police are beyond pathetic.

What particularly irritates me about stuff like this is that the police continually complain about lack of resources, which may be a valid complaint, but then they waste time on crap like this. Now, someone might say that they have to follow the law and investigate, but they certainly seem to quickly wash their hands of more day to day crimes like burglary, shoplifting, being stalked by a psycho ex, etc.

This is all intentional, it's called anarcho-tyranny, and it's present all over the west

Just so you know, we had a guy here get banned for saying comic/anime drawings of child porn aren’t as bad as real child porn…

I thought we were talking about beastiality in skyrim? Why you gotta take it to a dark place?

I'm saying if I draw a pic of Mr. Ed the horse railing Lassie while Flipper gives a reach around its pretty twisted but no animals are hurt.

Nevermind, I just took it to a dark place :p

Though i do gotta say some of these AI generated instagram models or whatever are pretty damned realistic, I can see the potential for abuse.

Man so many headlines posted on GAF that make me think that the UK is just inches away from declaring thought crimes as valid reasons to penalize someone. You brits need to get involved in local government and make that shit stop. Words, art, and videogames leading to real life punishment is a scary precedent.

Maybe some of this stuff is misrepresented and overblown, but damn...

sadly it's not overblown. If anything it's underreported. It's a national embarrassment and it makes me want to move to the US.
