Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers [Switch] Confirmed

I can see them definitely adding a few more clones (Decapre, Oni etc.)
For this game? Doubt it. So far the two new chars are just palette swaps, aesthetically. They'd actually have to draw new heads or sprites altogether for Decapre/Oni.

I thinking that since is a new version of SF2, why not throw in some other gameplay changes? EX moves maybe. Wouldn't need to make any new animations.

i just caught a few seconds in the Nintendo presentation.... dang this look nice...

then i go looking at hi res screens. wow, real HD 2D remake, just like everybody on Neogaf is always begging companies to do for every single game ever. ofc game companies don't usually do HD 2D remakes cos they are super pricey to make.

lol and then i come in here, and people bitching it's going to be $40. guess i shoulda seen that coming.

it cost more than that to buy it for SNES on release 20 years ago PRE INFLATION ffs

I wouldn't call it a real HD remake, it's just SSF2T HDR with a few graphical tweaks and gameplay changes. A real HD remake would be to redraw everything.

Inflation rates are only brought up when something is priced too high and you need to pull out some arbitrary crap to justify it.

This isn't a complete remake either, it looks like HDR with a few more modes. Violent Ken and E. Ryu are cool though.

Eh, my hype has cooled off a lot since the unveiling. I thought I might go and pre-order a Switch just based on this, then I saw that the two major additions are E. Ryu and V. Ken. Meh. They're basically palette swaps with some additions. I'll forego pre-ordering the Switch and just hope this is ported to PS4/XBO.

I really wish Violent Ken had his classic stance. I consider that his defining attribute. Otherwise what's the point?

So cool...

Is he riding a horse?

I'm pretty pumped for this (though yes, I do wish it were a bit cheaper and/or they added a SF Alpha 3-like world tour mode). Regardless, really great to see them add a new edition to a game I still play regularly after all these years.

Don't get me wrong, as this is my second most anticipated Switch game...

But this is not a brand new remake.

This is an updated version of a game that was released nearly 10 years ago (2008) for under $20 ($14.99) with some new things.

So while I don't mind the price, is not an easy recommendation for some to spend twice the original price as is.

OK, I was initially very skeptical of this at $40, but it looks like they are actually making an effort. If this has significant new modes, online, pixel perfect 16-bit mode, new characters, and selectable versions, I think it'd easily be worth the asking price.

$40 for a remake / port / remaster of an old-ass game is a joke. If 3rd parties play games like this on all their Switch games they will not take off on the console and they likely will cease making games for it. SFII HD on 360 was, what, $10-20, right?

Have you not seen SSF2T:HD Remix on the 360/PS3 that was released almost a decade ago? They are basically using the same assets from that game and that launched at around $15-$20, of course people are gonna question the price tag.

Anyway, I think a lot people here are interested in a new SF2 but are just hoping to hear what new modes, etc it will get since they want to see if the $40 price point is justified. There's no release date yet so hopefully they can add plenty of stuff to get make it worthwhile like speed changes, ST mode, SFIV mode/mini game/whatever, etc they are planning to add so it can be worth the money.

Wait they did?
Yeah, Justin Wong played and tweeted a lot of it earlier and said they added tech grabs and some other changes. Basically a "new" SF2.

What the fuck is Capcom even doing? Why not third strike or Ultra SF4 at least if you're not going to port the ultra-bomb that is SFV?

Jesus Christ riding a puppy what?
Because SF2 roster is the safe bet that most casual fans know the best. I would think they really want those sales.

I'm interested to see what content they're going to add to this game. I watched the video, and it was surprising that they added the voice to the characters from sf4. Also, what voice did they use for violent ken and evil ryu?

SF4 literally has every SF2 character in it. this might have just been the cheaper/faster option to port over.
I think the reason might be that SF2 is easier to play with one joycon. No mp+mk focus attack, no lp+lk throw, no KKK or PPP inputs for super and no EX moves where you need two punches or kicks.

Gief and t hawk have special moves the require pressing ppp or kkk

This would be fun to take on the go and play on the train, but unfortunately its unplayable on the switch. Good luck with that nonexistent dpad.

New characters? they are palette swaps ffs and just two shoto ones. Selectable versions? online? 10$ 360 port has it all. You know that right.

Nothing about seems worth price, you can buy newest AAA games for 30$ around launch at PC(like Doom,Dishonored2) etc while this game asks you to 40$ for 30 year old game. Such a joke. I wish they ported UMVC3 or Ultra SF4 , that would be better deal , but then again they ported USF4 (which has 100x more content and better gameplay compare to this) and sold for 25$ at launch.

Of course Nintendo/CAPCOM wouldnt want that, why care so much when you can sell SF2 rom for 40$ .

You all still want this for $40-50?? No thanks for me. You can add a brand new character, it won't make a diff for I think it's too much for an old game:

This game HAS NOT been confirmed to be $40 in the west. Just because a physical version translates to roughly $40 from a Japanese site DOESN'T mean that's the final price in the US. Darkstalkers Resurrection, Devil May Cry 4: Special Edition, Strider, Resident Evil REmake, and many other titles were given this exact price point, but turned out to be $20-$25. If Capcom decides to give us a physical version of USF2 then I expect it to be $25-$30. That'd follow the same pattern as their re-release of UMvC3, Dead Rising, and Resident Evil.

I'd buy this for $20. No more, and frankly even $20 is pushing it due to the fact that it seems like it's basically HDR with two new characters. If it's actually $40 it's DOA. And I don't mean the shitty fighting game.

Not sure what this was supposed to mean.
Extra Battle has been cut from Street Fighter V, is now exclusive to Ultra Street Fighter II.

That's a Shadaloo goon from SFV, but it definitely looks like SF4's graphical style and Seth's Super SF4 stage.

If we're still throwing out crazy theories, maybe they finally made that Street Fighter Flashback/Ryu's Journey mode happen

I think this is a pretty neat idea personally. Happy you can switch between the old and new graphical style. The price is a concern but if I can get a physical copy I'll probably bite.

My favorite old school Street art style, I much prefer it to newer versions. I love this happened. I'll buy a digital copy to have it always on me. Everyone knows Street and think they are the best, from coworkers to old friends. We'll see :)

No, it doesn't have everything I listed. Try again.

SF2 has been subsidized by sales enough times to trek the earth. There's little reason for (near) full price.

I'm honestly happy that there is another SF2 variant. I have a soft spot for the GBA one with new backgrounds that seems forgotten.
