Ultra Street Fighter IV on PS4 is much, much better now. Bless.

What if I am one that never notices stuff like that? What's the input lag on killer instinct on xbone? Mortal kombat?

You wont notice it unless youre an experienced SF4 player. Moreso if you primarily play on the 360 version. Input lag from those other games dont matter because they're not SF4.

I played some of this tonight -

Audio problems still exist , it's like the game is mixed poorly , the announcer before a match and the pre-fight music is 4-5 times the volume of everything else. As well, they need to just leave the announcer off the controller speaker.

Graphics could still be tightened up on level 3 - Adding in the anisiotropic filtering helps quite a bit on distant objects but there's so many jaggies floating around still, it looks like the backgrounds are running at a lower resolution compared to the rest of the game sometimes (they aren't actually) , so let's get some AA turned on there please, There's more than enough ram on a PS4 to do this. Even IF the game is a PS3 port- you're going from a maximum of 512 MB of memory (that ended up resulting in a barely 1280X720 experience) to at least 5 GB of game usable ram(the resolution increase might just use 1GB but we have 5 times that so...) . On that note, there's no excuse not to be using the HIGHEST quality assets available on the PC release- perhaps it's the lack of AA or something else but the texture quality in spots looks lower than it should.

As well, perhaps maybe another sign of this version possible PS3 origins but the colors seem a bit off. The game looks just a bit more pastel than I feel it should (going by 360/pc versions).

Here's the thing about the input lag issue - there really isn't much of an excuse for why it's higher than the PS3 version but I think the best we can realistically hope for is to get it down to the same as Xbox 360's 5-6 frames of delay.

Some of these problems seem like they can be fixed with a simple patch, others feel like they're imbedded within the games core code and it's possible nothing can be done to fix them- the input lag being the big one.

Had sony hired a competent porting studio - they could have taken the current PC version and squeezed that down to a tight little package and perhaps - with sony and capcoms help - rewritten the netcode to be brand new on PS4 instead of using the buggy steam version or the dated XB/GFW live code or the PSN code that the PS3 got. Instead it really does look like they simply ported the ps3 version to ps4 and didn't even play test it.

I put in a good 400 hours into Super Street Fighter 4 (xbox 360) but haven't played the series since. Is this going to feel like a lesser game to me because of all the stupid issues, even after the patch?

you probably wont notice the input lag then tbh. 3 years away from the game is a long time

I think you would notice it. I'm by no means pro, just played the series since I was little. I can feel the frame delay. Other stuff I'm trying to get a refund from Sony as I refuse to support this mess

There's always going to be some degree of input lag. As it stands, there really isn't an issue here as long as your'e using a native PS4 device.

So I played a good 3 hours last night with some 4-3 bar connections. It feels great! This really should be the definitive version of the game.

but there is definitely some input lag and I overall don't care for DS4 for fighters. Hopefully a few more patches and it will be straight. When the connection was good, it did feel a bit better than PS3.

Played about 2 hrs and the net code is still bad. I played a lot of green and yellow and it was a mixed bag but overall definitely harder to hit my links (I think even my plinking is being effected). I believe, for me anyways, the net code was not improved. Here's to hoping that comes in a patch down the line.

PS4 USF4 1.02 input lag tests gave me 4.8f(3.5f for 360). Lag is there but I don't have to adjust much if any. Thumbs up!

Tested on a PS4 TE2 by gilley.

From what I read both gilley are not satisfied with displaylags testing method due to the converter+keyboard setting instead of testing the hardware directly, which is understandable.

EDIT: Sounds like damdai is planning on doing an LED test?

EDIT: Looks like discussion is being moved over to the Patch thread.

Imagine how great the pc and 360 Version feel then?

Im playing right now and it doesnt feel as laggy as it was pre-patch,

Played a bit of PC and PS4 yesterday to see if I noticed any netplay differences, but both seemed equally erratic at times. For me neither one seems any better or worse connection-wise online. Also took some screenshots for comparison:

Obviously the input lag issue is the biggest one, but AF applied to the rest of the stages would be nice. Anything past their feet on PS4 gets blurry fast with lack of AF.
Audio mixing on the PS4 is terrible too
Also a weird screen flash on PS4 when going from charatcer select to the stage select screen.

Disappointed they haven't stated they're going to continue to work on the issues. I would assume the input lag issue is Sony's biggest concern and what would keep it off the Pro Tour. I just wonder if it's going to be moot by the time they fix this with SFV right around the corner.

Thanks. From this information, I definitely won't be picking it up. Appreciate the heads up.

the game feels fundamentally better now imo. look back at my posts in this thread and i could not play this game because of the input delay. the recent patch definitely made improvements in that regard. i haven't run into the numerous glitches before or after the patch so i can't comment on that.

I bought it. As a 'casual' player I will say the following

- I don't see the input lag issue.
- Title and icon menus are laggy.
- Sound mixing is all over the place
- Online seems good to me provided both players are on Green bars.
- Is Kens close H Kick meant to do a 'feint' attack?
- I dont like Ultra Street Fighter 4 being spoken through the PS4 controller on the title screen
- I don't like having to press the Options button to skip stuff as it's a hard press compared to the X button
- 'Press the Start button' needs to be changed

All this can be patched. The audio issues are the number one peeve of mine.

I doubt this game is getting more patches unless something really broken gets discovered. Nobody is communicating anything. Hopefully they release a big patch one day that improves graphics with good AA and max AF.

Notice how it's labeled as "patch 1"?

Strongly implies that they aren't finished.

BTW, the new USF4 patch discussion thread is now here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1056521

Yeah, I saw that. Implied, yes, but I'd like something more direct. After releasing the game they way they did, I'm not content with them implying something. I want a firm statement they're committed to continuing to work on it.

Seriously, it can't be that hard for Gio to go on twitter and say something. The fact that he/they won't just means they don't give a damn, which is disheartening.

I would be more confident if there had been a tweet with something like "please continue giving us feedback so we can address as many problems as possible in the next patch".

The threads about this game seem to have died down, so am I right in thinking that the patch satisfied most people and the outrage is mostly gone? I suppose I shouldn't get my hopes up on them actually delivering on the definitive version promise since the pressure from fans seems to be disappearing, though maybe they'll still attempt to get it ready for future tournaments.

The outrage is certainly quieter.

Sony is investing a lot on the Capcom Pro Tour. So I think the pressure is still there.

They only have to reach 360 input delay or the community will be divisive and some visual and sound issues.

There's also not much to say until the next patch.

Other than the DF comparison article, is there a condensed list of the remaining issues?

It might be worth compiling and tweeting/messaging those in charge so they know fans still want them fixed.

Who knows how hard the input delay thing is to fix, but most of the other stuff seems pretty reasonable for them to address if they truly want to call this the "ultimate version" and want it to be the standard moving forward.

I fear that we won't get a new patch. Hope I'm wrong. :(

Anyway, are there any issues beside these that needs to be addressed? The list is still huge.

- Input Lag fix
- AF on every stage this time.
- Better AA
- Fix the sound mixing issue
- Pixelated icons/menus
- Lack of Prize Code titles and default color #11 and #12

Oh, and for god's sake, fix the press start stuff.

Updated after most recent patch (1.03):

Issues still needing attention:
- AF on every stage this time.
- Better AA
- Fix the sound mixing issue
- Pixelated icons/menus
- Lack of default color #11 and #12
- Still using low-res/low-quality particle effects (hit effects are terribly jagged)
- No workaround for touchpad functions on controllers without them like Ultra SFIV sticks
- Title screen says "Press Start"
- Random crashes

Anyone having problems with this game online? Now thier are days I can't play because the game will not allow me to connect with anyone. It'll say can't join to any room even rooms that have tons of spaces available. But then if I do connect the game will disconnect me within like 20 seconds whether I'm in the lobby waiting my turn or about to fought at load screen...

Played some online. Seems on par gameplay and connection wise as other versions as far as I can tell. Had a couple random crashes though while playing online.

The other thing that is starting to annoy me is the really low-res hit effects/transparencies they are using. Digital Foundry pointed this out, and it's really noticeable and ugly, even in while playing. I'm not sure what they did, perhaps they used some really low-res hit effect assets from the older versions, but surely they can fix this oir replace them with proper effects. There's no reason for this to look so jagged. This is from DF's video and a few other shots.

EDIT: So messing around with the PC settings, apparently the setting that affects those hit sparks is the "Particles" setting. The PS4 seems to be running at the equivalent of those set to 'Middle', not 'High'

PS4 screen shot:

So perhaps there's some engine setting they overlooked, and it's a simple tweak to enable the higher quality setting.

Is Yang suppose to do this? Looks like a bug.

http://youtu.be/ZgBMzpyb9_E

I think he's always been able to do that. My friend is a Yang player and showed this to me a few years ago in the PC version(and it works on all the other version as well). He uses it against players who mash reversals against him. I don't remember what happens, but either you won't get your reversal because you're not inputting them in the right direction or you'll DP and he'll switch side like he does in the video.

Good that you noticed this on particle effects, so maybe the shots I posted of guile's sonic boom's (quality) can be cleaned up afterall.

Another thing I noticed and perhaps have commented on before is that dust effects seem better on the PS4 or at least a bit more pronounced, it certainly seems so in your shots as well.

I actually do hope the devs are taking note of this thread and are currently sorting out another patch to round out all the graphical, audio, online, (even further enhancements to input lag) and crashing errors that still occur with the game.

Remember devs, every graphical feature on this game should be set at max, also please give the PS4 version the graphical filters the PC version has and make sure AA and 16xAF is in for the next patch.

"On par" except for the random bugs that creep out like that Yang video posted up above. Probably will never be tournament-worthy, so i'm not sure if I'd say it's on par with anything.

except he has been able to do that as said by others

AFAIK said "bug" was present in all other versions of Ultra, so it is quite literally on par with the 360 version.
