Ultra Street Fighter IV trailer

Now that we know who the characters are though, it might be interesting to start talking about how they are going to fit in the overall meta-game of SFIV especially after the changes to all the characters. I see Hugo being high up on the tiers. My dream is that Elena will be a viable character but SFxT has me worried.

Elena is good in SFxT.
Both Capoeira girls.
Not being repped much is a whole different story.

That's great. It's still laziness.

The word you guys are looking for is "stingy" or "cheap"

as in, Capcom gave Ono enough of a budget to make this particular update.

The rehashed stuff isn't because they're just too lazy to make new assets. That's not how it works.

OK, for those claiming how lazy this is, can you please provide information on how much it costs them to do this update and what kind of margin they're making on it? This is a 4+ year old base game. How much does it cost to pull staff off other projects to make this, test and balance it? Please enlighten us on how busy the team is on other projects and how financially viable such a project is at this point. Please provide an estimate of the financial risk involved.

Yes, they're re-using assets from SFxT, but a ton of people hated SFxT on principle, yet wanted these characters in there. It still takes staff and time (i.e. money) to implement, despite what many people seem to think. Sure, new stages would have been nice, but this is a $15 update. Until you know what's involved in re-visiting a title like this years later, you really should look at the bigger picture here. I think people are grossly underestimating what's involved in updating an old title with any sort of content.

Rebalance patches is something that capcom does a lot and for free.

15 dollars for 5 characters and 5 stages that reuses geometry ?

I'm not sure Super Luigi U is a good comparison to make Capcom look vile here. It is great, but could be called a "level edit" using existing assets with a handful of new textures used sparingly.

The 4 characters imported from SFxT do require a lot of new animations, moves, ultras, and cut scenes to be created for them. Plus testing.

Still 90 "level edits using existing asstes with a handful of new textures used sparingly" ...and Nabbit, physics changes and one old powerup return

I can totaly understand the characters, but if you are going to re-use stages, re-use ALL stages =P

Yup Bison (and Cammy and Rose) have seriously fucked up origins. From what I understand, Rose and Bison were once the same person, but the Bison part decided to go full on evil and force the good part of the soul out of his body, forming Rose. From there Cammy was engineered from Bison's dna in order to be a clone body.

It would seem that he's trying to get back the feminine side of himself that he forced out (Rose) and he subconsciously is creating a female body that he can get back into. So he can be whole? :/

i don't mind the stages being recycled, so long as their improved upon a bit (eg remove the stuff in the foreground from jurassic park stage), and i would say the level transitions are unnecessary.

I still think that's fair, actually. $15 is not much. There's more to just plopping them in and calling it a day.

There was what, one rebalance that didn't come with a new version? and that was because they royally messed it up with AE and they were risking losing interest.

Why do you guys think its Haggar?

Greater chance its the girl from Remember Me than them trying to make lemonade from a Haggar statue model.

This is way way late, but the model people expect them to use as ab ase is the one from SFxTs mad gear hideout stage, not the statue in SF4.

SF must be the only money maker for Capcom these days.

Doubt it. The game isn't exactly Call of Duty, Halo, Forza, Gran Turismo, Madden, etc.

I don't recall the numbers for SSF4 and up or UMVC3 being too great. Anyone have sales numbers on their updates?

Seems like their money makers are Resident Evil, Devil May Cry (4), etc. But I'm sure they have their niche.

Don't forget that they're adding in new game modes and making existing ones work with the Ultra changes. One of my tweeps said he'd judge whether or not the $15 upgrade would be worth it entirely on the strength of those.

Blows my mind when people say they're glad they held off on AE. Didn't that come out mid 2011? Congrats on waiting years for Ultra while everyone else moved onto the more relevant and widely played version.

Well, I didn't buy AE after Super until the 2013 balance, because their balance philosophy on original AE was awful.

Anyone in here have experience getting a Madcatz Fightpad to work on PC? It says USB device not recognized, but my 360 wireless dongle and my fightstick both work on it. My fightpad works on my 360.

I really want to play SF with my laptop on my stomach (no air-conditioning by the Xbox) and the controller behind it, and the 360 controller is so damn awful.

edit: Also, I too am quite sick of the people complaining about this awesome update. ELENA!

Did they ever say if each new character are getting new ultras? Or will they also be ripped from SFxT?

Well, as SSF4 has two ultras and a super combo for every character as opposed to SFxT's one Super Art, they will have to make at least one new ultra and one super per character.

Some of you guys would probably start foaming at the mouth if you knew how much other fighters that use 3D models recycled.

That's fair. If you want to support the fgx tho, the best place to start is buying the games in the first place

They'll also have to place these stages in the real world, won't they? For the map? North America, Pitstop 101, etc.

Wonder where on earth Cosmic Elevator/Research Facility will be 'set'.

That was maybe the only time I passed on a new fighter release, and pretty much the one thing that would turn me away. I just despise the idea of intentionally overpowering characters to give people someone to root against.

Abel wishlist:

Have F.MK-cl.st.HP work on everyone

maybe overbuff falling sky as recompense for it sucking for a long time, maybe even have it auto KO all divekicks

that's it

Maybe I've missed a comment in the last pages, but wouldn't Terry Bogard be a very cool fifth addition? I think he would! Or, could Skullomania count as a debute since he never was in any of the main SF games?

And I know it's pointless to mention this now, but I've always thought that after Super they'd do an Ultra version. It just seemed like the logical thing to do, though I was thrown off a bit by the last few smaller updates.

For me, I'm excited and mostly because I'm curious about the new stages (yeah, I know, nobody else cares, but for me the stages are a big part of the fun), and the fifth character. What I am bummed out about a bit is that the two SFIII characters that I always voted on / wanted, Alex and Oro, are still not in the game despite the fact that most others are by now.

Oh well, the same applies to folks who like R. Mika, Karin, Q or Urien I suppose. Still, I would have like to see Alex in the game complete with a New York-ish scyscraper / alley stage. I mean, he is the friggin face of SFIII! Then again, Terry Bogard with a moving train stage similar to the one in Mark of the Wolves would also be cool!

Edit: just found out about the stages being recycled as well. Yeah...what can I say...nice of them to at least give us something else to look at I guess...and they are new-ish for the people who did not play SFxT...yay...(and chances are that the the fifth character is also recycled from that game, so it's probably a Tekken character)...

During the powerpoint presentation when the DLC was first announced (1st night of EVO), they said that the supers would be new, and the characters would have new animations.

I seriously thought Terry was gonna be the 5th. I was waiting for a "bustar wrof" the entire trailer.

Skullomania is owned by Arika, not Capcom.

You might have missed it, but the stages are six of the SFxT stages.

She probably lost all her cross up dive kicks and unblockables. Welcome back indeed Cammy.

I very much doubt the cross-ups are gone, but the unblockables are going across the board, so many are going to suffer there.

I think this is a fair trade for Cammy and Cammy players.
