Aid trucks have been hit by an air strike near the Syrian city of Aleppo, reports say, hours after the military declared the current cessation of violence was over.

The Syrian Red Crescent said the convoy was making a routine delivery from Aleppo to rural rebel-held areas.

It is not known if there are casualties and the government has not commented.

Red Cross official in #Aleppo says more than 10 people have been killed in aid convoy bombing

#pt: Initial reports suggest 10/20 aid trucks are totally destroyed & all staff are either wounded or dead.

The convoy was to feed 78,000.

Syria had resumed airstrikes in the region declaring the ceasefire over. So it is very likely they did it as the aid was going to people within Aleppo. Reports of at least 10 killed so far.

UN stating 18 of 31 trucks were completely destroyed in the strike. Casualties numbers cannot be confirmed at this time but the UN does state that All parties were well aware of the convoy and where it was going. So it was clearly a deliberate attack. Convoy was hit after it left Syrian Government controlled territory.

they declared the ceasefire to be over before or after the convoy was bombed?

How close is the besieged area to the location of today's ISIS offensive in Aleppo?

Man, it seems that the whole situation in Aleppo is pure chaos and the civilians are caught in the middle of it all.

For reference Assad denied movement of aid to rebel held area during the cease-fire. And given his and Russia's penchant for bombing hospitals and aid stations this was likely a targeted strike by them.

So if I understand correctly one side bombed a shipment of supplies meant for the other side? It sounds horrible and also sounds like every other war.

It was shipment of supplies for the civilians in Aleppo.

Humanitarian chief Stephen O’Brien said in a statement late Monday that a Red Crescent warehouse was also hit and a Red Crescent health clinic was reportedly severely damaged.

If it's the Russians or Syrians do you think they used the US bombing mistake as cover for this? I could imagine them using that as a way of saying "see, everyone makes mistakes in war, we did too".

No they just don't care. They've been deliberately bombing hospitals and other aid structures for years.

The UN and Red Crescent stop all humanitarian aid supplies to Syria for now. Mission accomplished. This was definitely no accident, Russian drones showed the convey and it was announced to all war parties...

Russia's Defense Ministry spokesman says the deadly attack on an aid convoy in Syria the previous night does not appear to have been from an airstrike.

Igor Konashenkov says that the Russian military has "carefully studied the video recordings of the so-called activists from the scene and found no signs that any munitions hit the convoy."

Konashenkov remarks on Tuesday were reported by the state news agency Tass. He denied that Russian warplanes or those of the Syrian government had conducted any airstrikes on the aid convoy.

He says that "everything shown on the video is the direct consequence of the cargo catching fire, and this began in a strange way simultaneously with militants carrying out a massive offensive in Aleppo."
Nope not a airstrike at allll, the trucks just managed to simultaneously catch fire in a strange way.

I like this as well:

“Russian and Syrian warplanes did not carry out any airstrikes on a UN humanitarian aid convoy in the southwest of Aleppo,” Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in a statement Tuesday.

The Russian Center for Reconciliation said that it had used drones to accompany the convoy because its route passed through territory controlled by the rebels, but only to a certain point.

"Around 13:40 Moscow time (10:40 GMT) the aid convoy successfully reached the destination. The Russian side did not monitor the convoy after this and its movements were only known by the militants who were in control of the area,” Konashenkov added.

Edit: From a banned source apparently.

Sad thing is this won't get any retaliation...

"The U.S. killed 80+ Soldiers with their 'mistake;' Why should Russia be punished?"

It's worse how many people will believe that bullshit explanation because they want to believe that the US is the bad guy and Russia the good one.

The U.N., Red Cross and United States had all described it as an air strike, implicitly pinning the blame on Russian or Syrian aircraft that fly in the area for breaking the ceasefire with a strike on a humanitarian target.

But Russia, which denied its aircraft or those of its Syrian government allies were involved, said on Tuesday it believed the convoy was not struck from the air at all but had caught fire because of some incident on the ground.

The Syrian Red Crescent said the head of one of its local offices and "around 20 civilians" had been killed, although other death tolls differed.

This reads like a criminal sitting as a judge for their own trial.

Next update: Was not an attack, but actually spontaneous combustion

That's actually more or less Russia's line here.

After the Russian explanation, the U.N. put out a revised version of an earlier statement, removing wording on "air strikes" and replacing it with references to unspecified "attacks".

U.N. humanitarian spokesman Jens Laerke said the references to air strikes in the original statement, attributed to the top U.N. humanitarian officials in the region and in Syria, were probably the result of a drafting error.
"Drafting error"

Like fucking really.
