Uncharted 2 multiplayer screens (and trailer!)

ND just joined the dumb arse developers who seem to think these sort of games deserve MP. :'(

Single player experience will now suffer, while MP won't even be good.

They won't find the balance, and this will fucking destroy the game for me.

They had two years to develop both with their engine already one of the best around. They know what they're doing.

The sad thing is that U2 is gonna be nitpicked to hell.
Every single thing or issue will be because 'it has MP'... its gonna be like KZ2 with the CoOp thing :/
REVIEWER: 6/10 'it has MP, the SP would be better without it'

Naughty Dog is one of the most talented developers in the business. They may even be the most talented, actually. I also have the concern that I want the SP experience to be as wonderful as the first game, but ND has never really disappointed in the past. I would be very surprised if they did not deliver given their history.

In terms of tech, yes. In terms of weapon balance, map design, game modes, etc. you know the stuff that actually makes a game fun to play, they are untested.

Yes the multiplayer looks nice, but then I don't think people concerned about its inclusion were worried that it wouldn't. But some nice looking screens don't do anything to alleviate concerns about how it will play, or how it's inclusion will impact other game modes.

I welcome the prospect of co-op and MP but I can't fight the sinking feeling that we are now seeing the early rounds of the Xboxification of Sony franchises.

Co-op being a different storyline is cool. I'm intrigued.. just hope the SP is as good or better than UC1 though. If not, the blame is going to fall on the MP and its affect on the overall focus of the team.

There seems to be a lack of people taking cover in those shots. I hope they aren't going the route of pulling cover out of the MP like so many games seem to do. A Gears style multiplayer game with climbing has potential imo.

Bye guys , enjoy the thread.

I love the fact that the game will have online play! The characters and gameplay that ND created in the first Uncharted were great. Now I can play Uncharted 2 non-stop while we wait for Uncharted 3. I would still be playing the first Uncharted if it had some sort of Mutliplayer. Its my favorite game this generation.

So it's DM and CTF? meh.

But at least the co-op sounds interesting and very similar to the mode found in Resistance 2. Was my favourite part of Resistance 2, too.

Ew, no thanks. Sharp elbows.

That last screen shot irks me for some reason. The treasure looks like a copy and paste job. Surely am not the only bothered by it right ? RIGHT ?

Where does that put the PC then ?

Not the first time they've done MP is it?

No, but it's the first time they've done a multiplayer shooter. It's kind of iffy to assume that because they made a kart racer with online play four years ago, they've proven themselves to be able to make a competitive and cooperative online shooter.

Beaten, but precisely.

So ND should never try to do multiplayer ? Just because they didnt before?
Whats the logic behind that? They would never do anything new isnt ?

It's in threads like this where you can separate the "half-full" crowd from the "half-empty" people. It's disgusting, to be honest.

I'm all for co-op and single player. I'll check multiplayer out but just like most others here, hope that it doesn't ruin or take away from the other modes.

I know a few others who will get this day-1 along with me. I wonder if it would be best to do co-op first or single player first.

Fair point but given what they were able to develop on the PS2 knowing how technically limited the system was, he isn't far
of in assuming they will pull this off on a much powerful system than its predecessor.

ND is a part of Sony, a company with plenty of multiplayer experience between its internal studios and its partners. Worrying about the quality of the multiplayer because it's their first game of the sort is exactly the kind of conservative old fart attitude and lack of faith in ND that we were talking about in the other thread.

Uncharted was the first time they did a realistic shooter. Uncharted was the first time they did a cover shooter. Uncharted was their first PlayStation 3 game.

Can't we just say "I don't if they can do it, but I'm certainly intrigued"? Or is that not the gaf way?

Where did I say that? I think if you've read any post I have ever made in an Uncharted multiplayer thread, my point has always been that they can fuck around with a useless multiplayer mode all they want, but there will be hell to pay if the single-player does not live up to my expectations, which I think is a totally fair argument. :\

This is turning into quite an outstanding package. Really glad they are keeping Co-Op separate from the SP campaign.

Can't wait - the original is one of my favourite games ever.

I knew there would be stealing inspired game modes. :lol

While some are unconvinced, I really need to see some gameplay footage to see how it all pans out.

I'm guessing (not to put words in his mouth) that perhaps he feels it unnecessary to force multiplayer modes into every damn game around, just to pimp the fact that you have an online console.

Anyway, the game is gonna rock.

where do people get these types of thinking? There's a saturation point in programming when throwing too many people at something is worse than having less people on something.

I love how you somehow transformed "they haven't proven they can make a good multiplayer shooter and it's precocious to assume they can before we've seen anything," into "LOL FUCK NAUGHTY DOG THEY SHOULDN'T EVER DO MULTIPLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Nice job!
