Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

Btw, the paid booster "Heavy Bullets" which has the description "increases stopping power" doesn't actually increase damage. It just slows the person down who is being shot.

WTF?

Talk about misleading description and title. Wasted 20k first time because I thought something glitched and I didn't get it, then wasted another 20k on it just to confirm.

Wel, I'm not versed in gun lingo, but this wiki entry excerpt kind of supports the current description of the booster:
Stopping power is a colloquial term used to describe the ability of a firearm or other weapon to cause a penetrating ballistic injury to a target, human or animal, sufficient to incapacitate the target where it stands.

The term is not a euphemism for lethality. It refers only to a weapon's ability to incapacitate quickly, regardless of whether death ultimately ensues. Some theories of stopping power involve concepts such as "energy transfer" and "hydrostatic shock," although there is disagreement regarding the importance of these effects.

So what's the latest on people's progress getting wiped out?

I just got home from work. Haven't played all day and looking to get my fix, but I'm worried about losing all my progress if I boot up the beta.

LOL just had the most retarded(and fun) plunder match in Yemen. EVERYONE was blindfiring with the AK47. I ended up with 43 kills, the game went the full distance, ended 3-3 tie game. I'm pretty sure it was a bad idea to buff that weapon up. :P

i don't get it ..i played today and be it team deathmatch , 3 team deathmatch or plunder.. people are still sniping like crazy in YEMEN .

i think this is a great map but why oh god why does so many people just always snipe in this map. i'm not angry because i lost ..( i won actually most of my matches )but i was bored..the same spots , the same paths. by reflex , i throwed a grenade and i got medals that's how predictable some of the players have become on this map .. i'm disapointed

by the way i was in the middle of a cluster grenade and i managed to survive !!!

i got 4 lucky medals in a row . ( i received 2 cheater messages afterwardsbecause not only did i survive but i kill them both ( my ennemies ) but oh well ..there is this nice spot on chateau where i managed to survive ...

Team Objective, man. Seems to be the only mode where camping is kept to a minimal on Yemen.

Whoa, I've been MIA from the Internet all day, and I come to find out peoples ranks have been reset. What's been going on? Do we know why this is happening? Now I'm nervous to play tonight :(

This is the update on the reset.

The GOOD news is that your progress towards those rewards has NOT been lost – we still have all of your detailed play history by game stored safely and ALL games you have played in the past and are playing right now WILL be counted towards your overall progress.

The BAD news is that we won’t be able to update your profile back to your current level, cash and unlocks. Unfortunately, that means all affected players will not be able to check their progress towards the requirements for the Beta rewards. We won’t be able to update your profile or even look up if you had 1,000 XP or 100,000 XP left before hitting level 25 before the Uncharted 3 Beta ends.

Well the good thing is that the data was stored, but it sucks that in the final days of the beta you're stuck with a brand new profile.

I just had the most interesting glitch happen to me. I was playing co-op arena with two randoms for about three whole sessions. In the fourth session, I guess both of them decided to back out when the timer (for the match to begin) was at 1...it ended the match, but this is the best part: It treated it like I had played the 10 rounds and I made 38k out of nowhere. :lol

Those were your stats from the previous game you played.

I was playing split screen at a friends house in sd. I didn't like how it was split but damn the game doesn't compromise the visuals in that mode like other games do. Planning for 3D is something everyone should do.

Things that MUST be fixed in the retail version:

Gameplay Fixes

Climbing
- It's janky as hell and your guy rarely climbs how you intended them to. More specifically, the Airstrip, you seem to float off of things or 'jump push' off of things when trying to climb. Too much sliding going on.

Sticky melee
- You should not be able to fly at me with a superman punch melee to kill me while I'm shooting you with a long gun. Period. Take this shit out of your game.

Stealth kills - I'm trying to level of Cloaked here. I run up behind an enemy who's aiming at another teammate. I press or hold square. I just elbow them and they roll out of the wya....[face_palm]. That should be a stealth kill, period.

Stun recovery - Why the hell is it that if an explosion goes off near me, it takes 3 seconds or more to recover, leaving me TOTALLY vulnerable? But even to that extent it seems inconsistent how long you are stunned. Sometimes you and an enemy will be stunned and they recover very quickly and melee you for the kill why you're still stunned. That's stupid.

Sniping - Now I know some of you may disagree with this but, as someone who loved sniping in UC2, I think it's ridiculous that you don't kill someone in one shot when you shoot them in the chest. That's a death shot. Period. Moreover, I don't like how you're instantly scoped in when sniping. It's VERY limiting and moves VERY slowly when in that state. Then need to make it like UC2 when pressing R3 will scope you in.

M9 - If you aren't going to fix this shitty ass weapon then just take it out of the game all together.

Interface

Invites - Make it like UC2. I need to see a pop up one PSN otherwise I don't realize I have one. I also need to see who's in a party when I join my friends.

Options - I should be able to view records and medals even if I'm in a party or finding a game.

Mainly fix the damn invite system.

Anyway, I actually love playing the Beta. I'm a level 42 with all the treasures obtained and all clothing options unlocked. I just want those smaller things to be fixed so that the retail game is perfect.

I'm pretty sure that you can see who is in a party when you join a friend. How are you not noticing it?

There's also that you can't throw a grenade blindly from a cover, I mean you can, but most of the time, it ends up hitting the cover you are at unlike U2 :\

so where can we see these stats? I'm pretty sure I've played all the modes the correct number of times.

Just played a beyond incredible game of plunder on airstrip

Our team was down 0-4 and we came back and won... other team must've been horrified

I got my first Five Not Alive medal a few games ago. I love the feeling of bullets whizzing past you as you're popping off rounds into the faces of the other team, yet they can't even touch you. When matches turn into head to head gunfights, it's so entertaining. Everyone's duking it out, weaving in and out, and rolling to shrug off shots and evade grenades.

If Naughty Dog tweaks a few things like inconsistent climbing and inconsistent rolling/taking cover, then I think this game is definitely going to be the go to multiplayer game of the PS3 like they were shooting for.

I'm going to miss this beta and the wait for November is going to be rough. With this, Twisted Metal, and Resistance 3 coming out this year and Starhawk coming out next year, my PS3 is going to be seeing tons of playtime. All of these games should be great games and have great multiplayer. It's a great time to be a PS3 owner!

Ok, hip firing with the AK is so much FUN. Please don't change it!

Having some ridiculous fun hip firing it in Plunder and Team Objective matches. Really makes close quarters combat super enjoyable! =D

ak hipfire needs nerfed

Just changed my mind completely about the AK hip fire.

I was having soo much ridiculous fun with it on objective game modes just because of how insanely hectic and chaotic things would get. Especially in king of the hill, turf wars, plunder and treasure hunter.

Switched back to TDM and now it's just annoying. It takes all the skill out of the game. Players don't even need to learn to aim with this, they can just depend completely on spray n' pray.

Definitely needs to be nerfed. Or at least tweaked so that it's only effective at ultra close range. Like 3-4 feet or just outside the range of melee rather than the 6-10 feet that it seems to be effective at now.

From the start of the beta i never took it as meaning anything else than slowing down the person who is being shot at and english isn't even my native language, so i'm not sure how anyone would come to the conclusion that the booster is adding damage to the bullets (which would be pretty lame anyway). Have you ever noticed how you slow down to a crawl when someone is shooting at you with the AK for example? This booster just increases that effect so people have a harder time running up to you blindfiring while you're shooting them directly. Coming from U2 the meaning seemed obvious to me, nothing misleading about the description.

sheeeeit, and i was pleased with myself when i got 22 kills earlier today lol :P

on an unrelated note, i hope they give you the option to change the ambient lighting for real time playing and not just for recording, the game looks so much better with some ambient lighting included.

Hey guys, is there any place where we can see our beta stats?
Unfortunately, no.

Man, I love the sniper rifle. Don't change it, ND. It's so perfect. Team Objective...my god. I love this mode so much. I'm going to miss it a lot next to Three Team Deathmatch. Just remove "Deathmatch" from it and replace it with something else. It doesn't belong there.

I got 100% of the unlockables on the beta. Every character customization and every emblem. :D

all affected players will not be able to check their progress towards the requirements for the Beta rewards

???

why do they say this if there's no actual place to check said progress ??? am I missing something?

Yep, the AK is definitely a beast at close range. The auto aim is crazy.
Blindfire damage needs to be lowered for it. Drastically. However, I've been using the sniper against these cheap players and kill them up close. They get so pissed off. lol

I haven't touched plunder ever since my awful experience in the camp fest that is Yemen and I don't really miss it. I don't get as frustrated with randoms in team objective than with Plunder. Fuck doing all the work.

Powerplays are actually perfect too, with the exception of double damage. That one is still bullshit, but I appreciate all the slight changes that were made. A team can still catch up and the match can still feel fair unlike with how they were before where you'd get cheap victories due to Powerplays.

Generic Hero needs an overhaul. Honestly, the generic hero looks like a villain to me and he has no personality whatsoever. In co-op, I sometimes mistake the generic hero for a villain. He doesn't even talk/grunt that much either. It's just bland and boring. Same for the villains, but having unlocked the outfits, they can look a little bit less generic and have some style. The villains from UC2 that you could select from were much better in style, voice, and personality.

I wouldn't say it's cheap, because getting to close range undetected still requires skill. It's funny, though, how the shotgun is considered a power weapon while the much more effective AK is a starting loadout.

Agreed. At first glance he really looks like one of the villains.

Stopping power is a pretty universal term in games to describe slowing down an enemy when hitting them.

Studio looks for potential four year lifespan instead

Naughty Dog has explained why Uncharted 3's multiplayer won't include dedicated servers.

The studio has responded to a direct fan complaint over Twitter, after revealing that Nathan Drake's third outing will work via peer-to-peer connections.

"We're not going to have dedicated servers, made that decision long time ago + we built the current player host-client architecture," the developer wrote on Twitter.

"Decision for that server architecture was to be better able to support our fans long-term if we can/want.

"The cost delta between dedicated & non-dedicated is huge long term. Eventually someone will say it costs too great + shut them down. My personal hope is that by keeping costs down + strong enough community, we could be in a position to consider 4+ yrs of uptime."

Has ND released any numbers related to how many people have downloaded/played the beta?

CVG's published a video interview with Uncharted 3 developer Naughty Dog, as the studio shares its delight at clearing over one million multiplayer beta sign-ups this weekend.

My guess? Stopping Power perk from Modern Warfare & World at War where it increased bullet damage.

I'm relatively low level at the moment (11) and the only noticeable "overpowered" weapon is the AK, but only when the opponent is using the increased rate of fire perk. That combo gets deadly at close to mid range.

What's the downside of increased rate of fire (if any)? Increased recoil?

how is this news? ;)
Why not provide both?
I also find it funny how dedicated servers are the reason why pc games have such a long lifetime. People are STILL playing counterstrike 1.6 today.

Why not allow customers to buy/rent servers?

Uh, it's right there in the description. It only increases stopping power.

I really hope ND increases the cost of paid boosters so that it is not reasonable to purchased them each round. I bought the Ping booster to test my fears about the return of SA (after some level 42 player kept killing me when they could not reasonably know where I was) and sure enough I get to see through walls for the small cost of $25,000 a round. Making more than that in a round seems pretty easy. Once people have purchased all of the relevant upgrades this booster will probably be abused all the time. Sure, Hardcore is an option, but I prefer objective game modes.

It is already bad that regular boosters only get stronger as you level them up and do not have any counter balance.

Played a game of Plunder last night with Weapons Expert/AK/Para, Back in the Saddle and Speedy-G on Yemen. I didn't even bother aiming down the sights and never stopped moving. I got 3 five not alive medals and ended with 62 kills and 24 deaths. Despite my rampage we only tied (playing with randoms, 2 of which did nothing more than snipe and die a lot) as we were playing against a 5 man party. The other team kept bitching about me lagging, but I only encountered a few moments in the match where lag seemed to be an issue. Blindfire with the AK is obscene and with constant traversal it is easy to get the drop on people.

Weapons definitely need balancing and every buff should come with an equal compromise.

Traversal needs to be tweaked so that you actually grab ledges instead of just bouncing off the walls (Air strip stage 1 is complete crap, if only because of this - well, that section is just garbage regardless of traversal). For a platforming game, the traversal is very weak and a gamble to use in many situations.

Auto aim needs to be nerfed and camera movement speed needs to be increased. Blindfire with shotguns, pistols and AKs are just auto affairs right now and require no skill (see my above score!). However tracking people at close range with the camera and having the gun shoot where the camera is aimed should still be viable.

Bullet lag is garbage - the G-Mal seems to have DtI equipped at all times. I am very tired of getting shot through walls constantly.

Spawing within proximity of an objective should not be allowed, period.

Co-op Hunters - such a garbage, me too, game mode.

Game is o.k. but, imo, it lacks the character of UC2 (beta and early release). I'll be payig attention to this over the next few months, but based on all the feedback ND recieved from UC2 and this beta experience I will be looking for a different MP game this fall. I have no faith that ND is willing to create an experience that deviates from what the gaming industry believes the MW2 generation will eat up.
