Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

I am using the AK most of the game. Maybe that's my problem.

Yeah, there's a reason why CoD games start you off with a burst fire weapon. Maybe UC3 should do the same. Bullets are dead accurate and recoil is a non issue.

Played around 4-5 hours tonight, and here's my main issues from tonight's session:

* Grenades are fucking stupid. You can throw them 900 miles, and they instantly blow up when they touch the ground. These need to be over hauled to not blow up for 3+ seconds once they are on the ground and the length to which they can be chucked across the map shortened by a lot.

* Machine Pistol into melee = broken as fuck. Had 3 games in a row with completely different people on Air Field where this was all anyone on the other team was doing. They'd run around like chickens with their head cut off, hip fire the machine pistol at you and sway back and forth so you miss the majority of your shots, then just punch you once to kill you. It looks like it's 3 bullets from that pistol + a melee = you're dead.

* Melee is broken in general. I've had several instances where I get punched once, and I move 10+ feet back and they melee air and it still connects. At the same time I think it's stupid that if I punch someone first, then they punch back, then I punch again, that it ALWAYS ends in us both dying. This is why dedicated servers are a must for a game like this, or else you get bull shit moments like this non stop. I would change it to make the hit box smaller for character models and you have to be super close for melee, as well as make it so you need 3 melees if it's face to face, and 2 melees if you get one hit behind them.

* Player matching is atrocious. I had a game where it was me at level 14, 3 level 1's, and one level 7 versus an entire time of guys over 25 into their early 30's. It wasn't even close, and while I may have gone positive, the rest of my team had no damn hope. This is not fun.

* The airplane sequence at the start has a bug where if you hang off the side of a truck at the start, for whatever reason your character just auto falls and dies.

* 3 games tonight on Airfield were nothing but an entire team camping in one spot of the map with snipers and the machine pistols. There was nothing our team could really do. We tried to get, or at least I did, the grenade and rocket launcher, but I'd get sniped before I could kill anyone with either. Flanking was a no go, and since my team was just randoms without headsets, pushing together wasn't an option. I'd like to see a playlist for people who aren't with anyone else to get on teams, so I don't get matched up against a group of 5 guys who game together versus my random casual PSN Joe squad.

* The aiming on the sniper even with max sensitivity is too stiff. It needs to be more smooth and less restrictive so I can quickly move the reticule on a moving target.

* Cover system feels cumbersome. I constantly try to just tap O to roll and I go hurling to a wall and get stuck to die. In fact I'd go as far as to say the cover in this game is just there to get in your damn way as an obstacle course rather than be something to incorporate to give you an advantage over someone standing out in the open.

* I also got that one glitch we were supposed to note here when we got it. It was at the end of a co-op on round 9, with 4:16 to go, 3 of us, and it said someone left the game right then, and we got the something string or w/e it's called in the upper right in red. Dropped us out and we got none of the hard earned experience. :(

I think that covers everything from tonight. Overall I liked UC2 better in just pure game play and how it handled moment to moment.

I hope you're submitting your feedback to Naughty Dog and not just to GAF. This is a beta, after all.

Yup. Put it over on their official beat feedback forums as well, so hopefully it helps out in some way to their development.

That Micro SMG + running thing is really overpowered at this point. You can totally dominate after you get it in your launch set up.

Oh and once the end of the round message said "UNKNOWN STRING CALLED!!!!" or something, heh!

I totally agree with all of this, especially close ranged combat and a 'mercenaries' type of playlist for total randoms. I actually got paired up against some gaffers tonight in TDM, and my team of randoms was getting obliterated, especially me lol. Needless to say, it wasn't fun in the slightest.

Close quarters in this game is severely sloppy. Melees seem totally inconsistent, and throwing a melee will drop you to a dead stop so most will just run circles around you all squirrely, and it looks horrendous. I don't know of a better solution, but I do think something needs to be done.

Movement and evasion definitely feels clunky and not very elegant at times. Hopefully in the retail version, when I want to roll away, I'll roll away, and when I want to duck behind cover, I'll duck behind cover. As it is now, it seems like a good thirty to forty percent of the time, my character is doing the exact opposite to what I want to have happen, which is extremely frustrating.

I played some Three Team Deathmatch tonight for the first time and thought it was very enjoyable even playing with randoms. With a friend, it'd be extremely fun I think. Have yet to play FFA, but I don't typically enjoy that in other shooters so we'll see.

I think if ND makes a few slight tweaks to the movement, aiming, and evasion, the game will play better. As others have said, I think the health is just right; not too much and not too little either.

After playing for a decent amount of time, it isn't any better than the 2nd, a piece of dog shit. I swear, damn near every fucking shooter I have played online is poorly made. Do it right or don't do it all. The only shooter that I enjoyed is Lost Planet ( not the 2nd) and Killzone 2.
If you're going to make a bold statement like "a piece of dog shit" then tell us why you think so. Support your opinion.

been havin a blast playin split screen three team on my buddies 70 in. dlp. Thumbs up , theres quirks, but the levels are fun and split screen runs smooth. I also agree something could be done to melee, sometimes I just get screwed and it doesnt feel legit, then i get someone from behind and snap their neck and all is forgiven haha.

Had the weirdest bug happen in a round of Three TDM. People, didn't die. They fell down, but they still had the indicator that they where alive. And if you went down, you didn't get to respawn. You were living dead. Had to quit out when I died due to this.

Also, I hate randoms sometimes. Played some TTDM, and gah! Guy in my team just died. He never, in any match, had any kills. At all.

It just sounds like it's lag to me.

Man, I must have played over 30 matches of 3 Team Deathmatch with a friend and out of those 30 matches, we only lost about three times. That mode is amazing.

Currently level 33. I've also unlocked costume stuff for my characters so picking up the treasure loot has paid off!

I've got the Fedora Hat for Sully, most of the villains gear, and I'm only missing one treasure for Drake's hat and Sully's fishermen hat.

Good games tonight, guys. Sorry I couldn't play much longer, but I'm tired as fuck. GAF always dominates, baby!

I think the plane part should have just been a separate map, maybe make it bigger but making the plane bigger and have more vans. Also add the ability to climb the plane itself such as the wings and on top of the plane.

i posted a lot of stuff too, also pm'd to the 2 mods. gonna repost once more after the beta ends to make sure they get the message. this game could become great, dont wanna see it fall into the pool of mediocrity.

here are my suggestions, i know bug fixing is a priority but leaving out some of the features below will harm the game even more than not fixing some of the bugs. also anybody know why my avatar disappeared

Footsteps
- Can't even hear them, but the groaning of climbers can be heard fine. Should be similar audio level

6v6 Players
- The maps are more than big enough. This also means everyone will get a buddy.
- On the subject of maps, they are too cluttered. Remove some objects to make them more open.

Balance the cargo-plane opening sequence
- Stop anyone from spawning in the plane, both sides start in trucks and fight to get into the plane (might need to add in a few more trucks to widen it out). Once one whole team has made it to the plane the sequence ends and they get some sort of bonus (e.g. 30 second head start in the map to take up positions or grab stuff)
- Or keep it as it is but villians get some sort of turret mounted onto 1 truck to stand a chance
- Or they need to have an RPG, grenade launcher or regular nades placed in a random truck

Gold rush
- Reward the person who captures it with a bonus, and the person who assisted with something too
- Severly penalise silly team mates who kill you to capture it themselves

Re-evaluate powerplays
- Make the score gap for when they kick in larger if you are going to keep them
- Keep the marked man play as it is genuinely fun for both sides
- Cursed is horrible and should only come into play if the score gap is huge
- Double damage and exposed make it very uneven and not exactly fun for one side, i think powerplays should be fun and challenging for both sides in general unless the score gap is getting too big.

Game Mechanics
- Do not adjust health, it is more or less perfect right now. Uncharted is not a twitch shooter like COD, do not conform!
- Melee bug where walking up and attacking misses. The hit window needs to be enlarged slightly.
- Higher sensitivity option, the max setting is still too slow for many people.
- Complete button customisation, should be standard in all games by now.
- Grenade throwback time to increase, very difficult to throwback as of now, its easier just to roll away. Make
chucking it back a viable option

Co-Op
- Longer timer, sometimes you just cant finish because one enemy has decided to hide and make himself some tea.
- If joining a game in progress, spawn next to team mates (would help a lot in siege)
- Fix the difficulty spikes in siege - RPGs, Shotgun Juggernauts and Lethal Snipers come out of nowhere
- Sometimes an enemy becomes immune to melee attacks, only bullets seem to kill them

Increase game speed and remove sprint
- Feels way too sluggish right now, everything from traversing the environment to meleeing.
- Something along the lines of the speedyg kickback are perfect, it feels so much smoother.
- And this would make the sprint redundant which is a good thing. However if you are not going to do this, at least remove the clunky camera angle that sprinting brings on.

Make cash feel like cash
- All there is to buy with it is kickbacks, boosters and mods.
- There needs to be extra content to spend your money on such as clothing.
- Don't get rid of the treasure collection system rewarding you with clothing though, just have an option to buy those same things with cash.

More customisation
- Heroes severly lacking in gear and customisation options
- Bigger colour palette, its too limited right now
- Add in option to edit hairstyles and other features
- More taunts such as t-bag
- Ability to move images in emblems, you can rotate/scale but cannot freely move right now

Statistics and Useful Info and Fun Facts
- Emulate what black ops did with number of players online, amount of cash/medals/kickbacks the community has earned
- Leaderboards which show you worldwide rankings as well as your own and your friends (KD, accuracy, high scores, favourite weapons and kickbacks)

Matchmaking & Invite System
- Needs a lot of work as i'm sure you know, possibly the most important sugggestion in my opinion
- Faster updating, still shows friends in games when they have quit to PSN and even signed offline sometimes
- Notifications for invites either through PSN or via unobtrusive in game message
- Ping in ms of games your searching for, right now it only shows optiimal/close/any which is too vague
- Better indiactor of connection quality, the green bars are not visible enough and you cant even see your own
- Ability to join a friends match in progress by clicking their name
- Private Matches where you can customise game options e.g. turn on/off certain weapons, medals, kickbacks, turrets

Weapon recoil and accuracy
- Too much recoil on the AK47 and sniper rifle, needs tweaking
- Too little recoil on the GMAL, again it needs tweaking
- Blindfire is useless due to the poor accuracy, needs to be bumped a notch or two (mainly the primary weapons such as ak47, micro is already too accurate)
- Increase pistol damage, its lacking quite a bit

Graphics
- For the most part very good, hardly any aliasing on characters
- However some jaggies still appear, and stand out badly against the rest which is fairly smooth

Miscellanous
- Ability to mute individual players in the lobby as well as in the game
- Stop a player from picking up the same treasure multiple times, give them a different one or just cash instead
- Option to turn off uncharted tv completley (it also needs a volume increase)
- Treasure pick-up big (or display bug) where a chest still glows when there is nothing inside OR there is something inside and you cannot pick it up
- Bring back a couple of popular maps from Uncharted 2 (not neccessarily at launch but as a DLC package later on)
- Less feedback from the woman to pickup treasure and use kickbacks (optionally change the voice to a big smooth/deep black guys so it sounds better)

You have alot, ALOT of good points, but this one stands out as bad. This is a big NO. Seriously, the Uncharted 2 Beta Gold Rush was horrible due to this. That's why they changed it. Everyone was just camping around, waiting for somebody else to do the work, so they could just grab the treasure and get the medal.
It was horribly broken. And all that shit would start over again.

I can't use sprint properly, it just feels wierd, on COD I have no problem with sprint, but with this game it feels hard to do and clunky, I think they should have stuck to Uncharted 2 movement, make the walk speed slightly higher like Uncharted 2, and have no sprint.

eh maybe your right, im always the one capturing that shit so feel like i need to be rewarded.

if the team killing shenanigans to get the treasure did start, there should be heavy penalties like your next 3 kills dont count, or you cant spawn for 1-3 minutes, or all treasure you've earned goes to shit. something to stop idiots from even contemplating it

I suck at the game, but it's fun to play. The lag in melee is quite bad sometimes.
I punch a guy in the face and he does the same to me. I die and after I die, he's still getting punched in his face by my invisible fist and dies too.

Yeah, I agree with the Team Killing. But, not the reward for capturing. As it is, with everyone getting the "Captured" medal, it's way better.
Seriously, there was nothing worse than playing Plunder, with most of the team holed up near the chest, just waiting for someone to throw it there, so they could grab it and get the medal. This was basically EVERY Plunder match in the UC2 Beta.

And you would feel even worse than you do now. Since you would fight to get it, try to get it home, then someone from your team just grabs it just as you're close. Thereby erasing all the stuff you did, and giving that person the reward instead.

That's why Naughty Dog changed it to the better.

I dont understand how the melee works. I mash the square button but gets kicked down every time.

i only won once and that was after i unleashed an whole clip in to the other dude.

it takes 2 hits to down someone unless you hit them directly from behind or directly in their face when they are running at you i think

its better to shoot first, and then melee to finish off. you'll only need 1 hit to kill them.

if your in a laggy game, sometimes you get killed in one hit, no idea why

sometimes you'll end up in a melee 1-2 fight where you hit, the other guy hits you hit etc
if you know your gonna die (e.g. you hit him after he hit you), just throw a nade at his feet

I need some U3 buddies! Feel free to add me - my PSN is in my profile.

But fucking hell I HATE airfield. What a shitty map. It should really be aborted from the face of the earth. Bring back the U2 maps! They were ALL good.

At full health it takes 3 punches to take someone out. Never melee someone without pumping a healthy amount of bullets into them first.

Just the take-off sequence needs to go, the hanger is fine.

I love both maps, and even the airplane sequence has grown on me. When I start as the heroes I actually jump out of the plane, the other team doesn't see it coming. :lol It's more fun to play it that way too.

I like the take-off scene, I hope they incorporate more split scene maps into the MP, its really a cool premise to switch things up like that in the middle of a match. Plus it adds a sort of cinematic feel to it.

My only complaint about take-off scene is how hit-or-miss the jumping from truck to truck is. I can't count the number of times I've fallen to my death on what was clearly a good jump.

Maybe they could give money for the meters you draw it towards your base? Even throws would count. And as for medals on the case:

carry it certain meters towards the capture chest = medal

dying while carrying it = medal

No medal or anythign for being the one who puts it there.

Or maybe they could make it so the person who carried it longer gets a medal.

Agreed.
Also, sometimes grenades act weird when you throw them from the trucks towards the side doors of the plane.
I really need to put out a revised list of impressions.

Regarding the plane sequence, anyone else thinks the take-off alarm counter is too short? 3 seconds don't change anything. 5 seconds should be more suitable and add more thrill to the "get on plane or be left behind" scenario.

Huh? Where you end up only depends on if you are a hero or villain. Not if you are winning or losing or on the plane or not.

Trevelyon said:

The take off sequence is the only good part. The airfield it self is terrible.

The best thing about the U2 maps were their simplicity. Much like in Gears of War, they were simple, yet solid maps to play on.

I find the take-off annoyingly predictable, for villains and heroes. Oh this thing again, okay, I'll cover the left rear door, you guys take the front and for the most part we've held the plane. For villains, I know the rhythm of the trucks, the platforming is mostly procedural, kind of annoying and there's a only a certain amounts of ways you can really approach either taking or defending the plane.

Maybe it's because of the repetition of the maps, idk, still think I'll be down on it when it hits full retail.

You know what would be good; moving the "Records" part into the Customisation menu. At least the Treasures. That way, I won't have to back out of Matchmaking or anything to just look at the Treasures sets I have, and what's missing. Do it Naughty Dog!
A Treasure Perk would be cool too.

Also, maybe something with more stats. I want to see how many games I've completed in the various modes, etc. Would make it easier. Specially when going for the "play X amount of matches in all gamemodes"-challenges.

I know, but if the take-off sequence ends with you on board you get a medal called "Drakes on a Plane" + $500 cash, you receive these as soon as the hanger part starts.

gogo said:

No, you get that medal if you're the winning team when the airplane sequence ends.

Man what is with the melee in this game? I can never get it to work properly...

Any tips?

Hopefully it's fixed for the full release.

So you know those guys that grab you from behind and strangle you in co-op? It tells you to bash triangle but it doesn't seem to do anything and I always require someone to come help me. Is this a bug or intended?

It only delays your inevitable death unless someone saves your ass.

you know what would be nice? giving you all the statistics, the scores, and your kills, medals etc right on the replay menu so I don't have to watch them all to know which ones are the good ones, thank you.

speaking of which, I uploaded a replay of mine....where exactly did I upload it to? :P

Y'know what? I don't like the inclusion of loadouts.

Actually, I think they ruin a the balance of finding weapons in the game, and I'd like to see them removed from Hardcore completely. Being able to start with a Sniper, a G-Mal, and/or a Micro makes traveling around map to gather these things pointless, and is now reducing every match of Chateau into a game of "Who can get lucky with the Micro and hold the upper section longest?" No one is using the turrets anymore, and no one bothers with the courtyard area. The Para 9 Pistol is useless in these situations as is using cover.

The starting backup weapon in particular is an issue here. It should not be another fully automatic gun. I'll even deal with starting with a G-Mal, but the back up NEEDS to be semi-auto, or the game just turns into a spray + melee fest.

Top Bottom
