Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

Anyone else REALLY like the new jumping animations? Specially the long one down. The pose, and the camera angles are just awesome. Very Jason bournish
That's one of the only things I like about the game.

Yeah Uncharted 2 feels a heck of a lot better than this beta, it also looks better. U3 Beta is just rough all around. I don't understand why they messed with perfect gameplay mechanics, ND must enjoy the extra work.
But it's balanced better and everything is awesome and cinematic and epic epic EPIC.

This beta completely convinces me that Uncharted 2's 1.00-1.04 multiplayer was so great, fun, and balanced because it was a FLUKE.

I couldn't give a fuck about graphics in multiplayer beyond frame rate.
Which also is horrible for the time being. I'm hoping it clears up by tomorrow but right now frames were skipping, and the entire thing was playing at about half the normal frame rate. I couldn't take it anymore, it was unplayable.

hey Killzone 3 features 3D and split-screen coop and it looks amazing, even better than KZ2 in SP... so it must be something else, like some filter or whatever, U2 looks a lot more crispier and 'smooth', U3 feels 'heavy' and the airstrip map lighting is atrocious, that map doesn't live up to the ND gfx standards.

Also, the game looks blurry as hell on the menu. As far as I could tell from my 30 seconds of 5-10 FPS gameplay though, it's not as bad during actual matches.

Fucking hell this does not sound good. I mean it is only a beta but all the complaints are really troubling. Guess I'll see later.

Its not nearly as bad as people are making it out, the game is overall slower but the server frame rate issues / freezing / dc will fix itself. I like the game but I do wish it was a bit faster pace.

Wow, people already condemning the beta to be shit and it only came out a few hours ago.

I love how fickle we are.

I say to the people who think it's shit "Don't play it than!". At least the people who are enjoying it can have a better chance to play the beta.

Just downloaded and got into a game and hooooollllyyyyy shiiiiit frame-rate drops.

It's like a slideshow at times.

....and it just froze my ps3 :(

I didn't play much of the U2 retail, but I loved the hell out of the beta. This beta just feels like a one step forwards two steps back compared to it.

smh at graphics feedback. Beta does not equal demo/retail code, that shit is always polished later.

Performance issues are a different story. Someone mentioned dedicated servers, and it is interesting that it doesn't have it.

Not going anywhere near that far. I'll play the beta, and see how I feel about when the full game comes out--I'll have to make a decision between this and ACR, which comes out 2 weeks after.

Completely. After playing U2 today, I'd estimate the health bar is 2x - 3x as large.

If you guys are using AK's, then yes it'll take people more bullets to drop, but you gain an automatic rifle. The 3 burst gun drops people in I believe 4 hits, and if you aim at the head it's a lot faster. Also, playing hardcore team death match the bullets felt perfect on there.

Naughty_Dog
RE: framerate + system freezes: we're looking into this right now it's not consistent or everyone so it's taking a bit of time to track down

I haven't finished downloading it yet but anyone that has good criticism should post in the official beta boards. ND really listened last time and a lot of good changes were made between beta and release.

It's just that to get the weapon damage of U2, they made it so you have to use bullshit boosters and mods to make the weapons what they once were.

I don't get the health complaints. Takes about 3 well placed bursts from the MAL to bring someone down. The health is perfect IMO.

So I'm not the only one who had this game playing in slow motion for them, am I? It was nothing but motion blur the frame rate was so bad. I mean, TERRIBLE. Unplayable.

Yes, yes, it's a beta. But I don't know how they expect us to test anything when we (or at least I) cannot play. I'm sure they'll fix it but I just wanted to be sure that I'm not the only one experiencing like worst slowdown of any online game ever.

Well unlike you I still like Uncharted 2 MP. :P Yeah it's a shame what happened but I adjusted. I figured you might like the beta, considering the increased health was your main complaint in 1.05. :P

oh don't start that shit.

In a way, it's brave that ND has gone down this route. I imagine that won't be the last time we hear that complaint. :P I personally really like the health in the beta.

It's NOT like Killzone 3 where the multiplayer is an unfun piece of shit. U3 beta is good fun when it's not plagued with server issues, it's just very different from U2.

if it was a fluke why did they take 4 patches to 'ruin' it? I guess they gave in to the pressure of the CoD crybabies... too many bullets to kill... maps too big, I want to spawn 2 feet away from my enemy so I can get an easy payback...

lol, now seriously, same as Killzone 2, if not for custom games (7 v 7 with assault class banned) KZ2 standard mode (32 kids rocketing each other while boosting around in a laggy p2p mess) was/is atrocious. The custom variant made it the best online FPS this gen.

I get what you're saying but it just seems so much slower than 2 did. I'm sure once we adjust games will go faster, but at the moment, it seems like it's possible to run away from even the worst type of situations due to the extended health bar.

After playing some more matches, I gotta say I'm liking this more than UC2.

The gameplay feels slower, and more strategy oriented - yet the core shooting and cover elements what made UC2 multiplayer 2 so good are all there.

Playing with a buddy is a definite plus thanks to the increased emphasis on teamwork, buddy medals, and spawn on buddy, which is always how I played UC2 anyways with my friend.

sure, but I take for granted ND is not precisely 'poor'

It wouldn't be that, it would be cost of servers over the long term impacting the cash flow for future projects, things like the break even point, etc.

Also, while I can't speak for what our actual policy will be on when the matchmaking, etc. servers that are necessary will be shut down, it's less likely they will be shutdown because of the expense of keeping them running versus player population. I'd like to think we'd go so far as Halo 2 for example, which had the servers up for nearly 6 years. That becomes less viable if the expenses over time are much larger.

Health is perfect. Plus, once people start unlocking all the BS like better bullets, it will all balance out.

I have no doubt they'll cave to the whiners though.

Touche.

I've adjusted to it as well, but the changes just show me they have no idea what they're doing.

Dedicated servers cost more money to run than P2P correct?

They would be nice, but I doubt that will happen.

But for me personally, I'm liking the beta a lot, I had some performance issues on airstrip and other then the connection issues, it's been fairly smooth for me.

"If it ain't broke don't fix it", is a hard concept to grasp apparently.

They want us to use weapons mods, really not seeing the big deal about this one.

It's been bugging the hell out of me. I think ND must have forgot.

what's with the lighting on the airstrip map. I can't see shit. My brightness settings are fine for every other game. What's going on ND?

Yeah, that's probably the least impressive map in the beta. I think the color vibrance/hue is way too high, feels like the color pallete actually takes away from the map.

On the plus side, I'm loving the layouts and extra climbing. And the vault/jump/climbing transition is quicker and smoother.
to balance out my whining :)

Health is perfect indeed. One of the things that irks me the most about U2 is that you have no room for maneuver. The window of time you get between "oh shit someone's firing at me" and "FUUUUU I'm dead" is so small, you hardly ever have the chance to bail out or look for cover.

In the beta, you have plenty of time to get out of harms way and start planning how to counterattack. Gives cover and actual tactics a meaning they had lost.

The full game will let you post pics, videos, and send invites using Facebook.

Now that I think about it, is Facebook the reason the game is using in game invites instead of the standard PSN invites in U2?
Late, but thanks.

Sending invites through Facebook sounds convenient.

Aw geez, it's frozen on my so many times. It makes the XMB run REALLY slow, which makes arranging to create parties pretty much impossible.

What I actually played though was amazing.

Uncharted: LittleBIGPlanet edition because everything is floaty as hell.

By the way, how does the buddy selection work? When I played with randoms, it would just choose someone for me. Like, I never even high-five'd that person and I'd be their buddy.
