Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

So, after finally getting into a stable game that wasn't at 5fps, I enjoyed the beta immensely. Can't wait to put some more playing time into this, really loving it so far.

Is anyone/everyone with the freezing linked with their Facebook account in-game too?
Nope.
Haven't even had any XMB friend pop ups (the few people I have added are EU and they are offline since it's 3 AM so I'm sure of it)

One time it seemed to freeze for 4-5 seconds, then it continued anyways (only happened once) and then it showed that like 5 people had disconnected.

Seems like if the host crashes, everyone gets fucked.

Sounds like everyone is really liking the buddy system.

I thought it might be lame with the "High Fives" but I can see where this will make randoms cooperate more.

From the little I played I wasn't able to check the settings but sensitivity can be changed, right?
Yeah, it's in the option menu.

Played the two maps with no lag what-so-ever. And then played the airfield map and it got stuck into the framerate drop mess - but it's obvious this is just a serious bug and it will be fixed easily.

The multiplayer looks awesome and runs great (when it doesn't get that bug) I don't get all the complaining going on. The one thing I agree on is the Cursed winners mode is really dumb.

After trying coop and TDM for 2 hours, i have yet to complete a match. Mostly due to a steady framerate decline followed by PS3 freezing, but one time on a deathmatch, all the players froze in place, and I just ran around the map, letting the time run out(when it did, it started going negative, so I had to quit).

Anyway, I got to explore the map; on the airfield, can people get up into the watchtower in one corner? I wasn't able to, but just want to know if I should look out for sniper dicks up there.

Lots of freezes and desyncs.
Ill try it in a couple of days.

The Uncharted TV is nuts. NUTS I SAY!!

arne, can we expect custom soundtracks and xmb presence data?

please say yes.

xmb presence - what your friends are doing? I believe so. I think it makes sense to have that.

custom soundtracks - we haven't discussed that in a long time, so I'm leaning towards that isn't going to make it in, if it even was on the books to do so.

What's lame about you and your friend fist bumping over a corpse while talking mad shit about kicking his ass? I LOVE a reason to work with buddies and have fun talking smack online.

The buddy system is insanely clever.
It makes it very easy to 'bond' with that player.

It's a tiny step to fixing the second biggest problem with matchmaking (and why I avoid matchmaking mp games), the anonimity and random people stopping you from ever really getting a community feel.

can't play a single game without freezing and crashing :(

Same. I've tried 3 times now, and the most I've gotten to play is about a minute before it freezes.

I don't have it linked to facebook either.

Well I got in a few games before things went into a framerate downspiral and the PS3 eventually locked up. Gotta say the buddy system was quite fun playing with a friend and most of the gameplay was also enjoyable for the most part. The Marked Men powerplay is good fun, but the cursed one just needs to be removed asap. (as others have been saying).

I usually don't get a chance to play with my friends so I wasn't thinking from that perspective but yeah if you got a friend with you that does sound pretty sweet.

Disagree on this point - loving them!
Eh, I just think their kind of pointless to be honest. In almost every game I played with GAF today, the other team didn't really stand a chance. Even with constant power plays happening after we got a five point lead(lol), we would still win by a lot.

The only kickback that seemed of any use was smoke bomb. The other ones are just, meh in comparison.

So finally got into a game, got to about 9 for 3 (got to 8 for 3 then got stuck because of the FPS plummet). Got the RPG, used it, killed someone, game froze.

Also the buddy system is definitely cool but like many have said, spawning on someone when they're fighting is totally unfair.

Bed time for me, hope an update is pushed to make the game more stable overnight...

I also had a bug where I wasn't allowed to spawn at all... UI completely disappeared. People were still playing and I could view them and other people were still spawning but I had to quit the game.

i played 3 mp matches and tried co-op. I didn't have any lag or framerate issues. The matchmaking didn't take an unreasonable amount of time either...maybe a minute or two. However, for some reason i remember UC2 being a better game.

the gunplay feels loose or something. the game also doesn't look as good as i was expecting. The lighting in particular is really weird on my tv (too much contrast)...especially on the airfield map. the survival mode was also really sloppy. The game started with me standing directly in front of an enemy who was shooting me in the back. melee is total jank. Overall, this beta hasn't made a good impression on me.

I did like the customizations and Uncharted TV though. I'll play some more before writing the beta off though. Is there a 3rd map? How are people getting matches on Yemen?

It's GAF! What did you expect? ;P

Naughty Dog should've taken notes from Epic. Dedicated servers all the way. Plus retarded kickbacks and power plays mean I'll be hanging exclusively in Hardcore.

My impressions after two-ish hours (when I wasn't hard-rebooting my console):

Pros
- The game looks fantastic
- Almost non existent load times from lobby to gameplay
- Satisfying traversal and shooting
- Hardcore mode is as close to U2 MP as we can get in the beta.

Cons (Basically everything else)
- I HATE having to press square to respawn. It makes the game feel needlessly cluttered.
- The slower speed completely changes the game dynamic from U2.
- Melee is literally worthless and needs to be increased. I stopped using it at all when I got in 1v1 confrontations up close because I could just pump bullets into their body and kill them before the 3+ melee attacks it takes to bring someone down got me.
- Powerplays are horrendous. I don't know if they are mandatory and on a timer or if they just happen when a team is blowing out the other team (like Arne said when they were announced), but they serve no purpose but to clutter the gameplay and punish a team for playing well. They will singlehandedly prevent U3 from becoming a solid competitive game IMO.
- Random music cues and voices in the middle of a match. They, like a lot of the new features added in, only serve to clutter up the experience.
- Cutscenes mid match and post match. They do not make the game "epic" or "visceral" like the singleplayer. They only serve to keep me from playing the game and are not enjoyable to watch.
- Map layout. It could just these two maps, but the flow throughout both maps (especially airfield) is very disjointed. In U2, it felt like you could almost run in a path around most maps, but these feel like ares are segmented in such a way that it forces encounters to be disjointed.
- Time it takes to start the match from the lobby. Personally, it should be 5-10secs instead of 20secs.

Then there is the obvious beta stuff.
- Insanely bad framerate that can dip into the single digits are become unplayable.
- Freezes. I have had to manually restart my console 5 times in the past 45 minutes.
- Lag
- Horrible UI in the menus. It feels like it was put together in a weekend and rushed out the gate. Everything feels so needlessly cluttered and the speed of which personal info scrolls on screen is extremely distracting IMO.

Here's to hoping it gets better from here on out, but I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the changes made to the MP thus far.

My rock solid 120GB PS3 slim has crashed multiple times on this, at the beginning, mid-game, near the end, etc.

I get pissed off, shut off the PS3, go to play SOCOM and now it fucking crashed on me and never had it crash on me before. Lovely.

Hopefully that was just a coincidence.

Yeah.
Main reasons that I remember for quitting UC2 was the laggyness and the fact that I could never get used to floaty controller aiming.

People bitching about change: keep playing uc2 then?

Rather have them experiment and totally overhaul MP than just make a clone and be like cod in that they just refresh the same formula every year.

You have to press square to respawn? I'd make this a pro imo. I hated having a teammate not being there when the game starts in U2. My opponent would just kill him over and over again 'til they won the match.
