Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

I have a Slim PS3 with a wired connection. I was able to reach Level 4, and here are some early thoughts...

1) This is very laggy, has framerate issues, sometimes when you get killed nothing happens, and of course horrible freezes. All of that has happened to me, but I did have a chance to play like a handful of decent matches today luckily. Yeah, I know it's a beta, I'm just putting it here so ND knows the extent of these issues.

2) For the love of God, take out sprint and bring back the walking speed from Uncharted 2's multiplayer. The sprint is just annoying and really unneeded. I understand wanting to add some new things to a game, but this shouldn't be one of them. Walking regularly is just so frustrating, and I really don't feel like clicking a damn stick to sprint. Which, by the way, takes you out of the experience completely cause you fricken zoom into your character and then sometimes you can't even control him very well. It's just a mess.

2) I really hope that excessive recoil on the AK47 is a bug/glitch or whatever. It was fine the way it was in Uncharted 2, no need to go crazy with it in this game.

3) Make the bar behind the checkmarks when voting on a map dark black or something. You can hardly tell that the checkmarks are there because it blends in with the map settings of the picture. Just a little thing I noticed which bugged me.

Besides those things I haven't noticed anything else that I would deem "ugh" or "meh" so far so that's a good thing. I've only played Free For All today, though. This is a little thing, but the one thing I really like is that I get to unlock a baseball cap for Drake. Plus, it's even cooler that you have to find a treasure while playing a match to get it. I think that's pretty sweet if you ask me. It would be nice to play more matches without it wanting to break my console, though. That and the annoying walk speed and the inclusion of sprint are the things that are hampering me liking this as much as I want to honestly.
 
I've been in the lobby trying to get in a game for over 30 minutes. I'm lagging in the lobby. I've yet to get in a game. I bet ND didn't realize how many would be playing.

I dont recall it being in U2, but if you press down L3, you get a short speed burst. Also, I really appreciated in U2 how drake realistically skipped several steps when running up stairs. Now he essentially glides up them like a ramp.
Sprint is brand new. I can't wait to try it.

No, I was expecting the servers to be loaded today and make it hard to connect. I was not expecting the game to entirely freeze my PS3 in every single match. I was not expecting this because my PS3 is a slim that has never frozen at all prior to the UC3 beta. Hard locks were not a part of the Halo, CoD4, BC2, or KZ3 betas either.

Hell, I think the last time I've had a console game freeze on me was Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic on Xbox.
 
Absolute garbage. Terrible frame rates, freezing galore, crashing. Maybe this is an issue with phat PS3's because my buddy on a Slim was having no issues whatsoever. Either way, really disappointed. Hopefully this gets fixed. I'd feel bad for anyone who bought InFamous 2 for this beta and is experiencing the same stuff. smh

-Wired connection (Bell DSL)
-80 GB phat (second gen model with no backwards compatibility)

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I think a lot of the problems would be fixed if the sprint was axed and the U2 movement returned. I was left scratching my head as to why it was implemented in the first place and after playing with it, it serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever.

Yeah, the locking up does suck. I had to unplug my PS3 once; I couldn't even power it off.
There are definitely issues; sprinting needs to go,period. We need to give ND some serious feedback on this beta. It has great potential, if they're willing to scrap a few things.
 
Giving pretty much every ps3 owner access to the beta was a huge mistake. Infamous 2 buyers should've been the only ones included for the first week... (or ps+ also but not give it to everyone in the world)

Maybe then some people could actually be having fun right now instead of looking at a slideshow... Can't even get a game started :/

Who would buy I2 just for this beta? That just sounds crazy; I2 can stand on it's own.

If they were planning on opening up the beta to everyone anyway next week, then the current situation is inexcusable.
 
I'm pissed because I finally got Yemen on free for all all it froze 30 seconds into the match....and the excuse that some people are using saying "It's a beta! It's going to have problems!" is pathetic...the point of a beta is to find issues within the game so the developer knows about them. Well when the game is unplayable we can't find these problems so it defeats the purpose.

Haha you just found the problem with the game freezing. Bugs that make a game unplayable are quite big, so it doesn't quite defeat the purpose.

Seems like things that should be stated on the actual Naughty Dog forums. Here, nobody can do shit. I agree with most your points btw. Don't fix what isn't broke.

Jealous. Still have yet to play a single game that didn't freeze. I think I'm done till this is a bit more stable.
 
Surprised to see so many people having issues.

Had a match up and running within moments, played 2 matches without a hitch.

I was a little worried I was going to start having framerate issues right from the get go after flipping through the thread earlier, but the experience was smooth as butter for me.
 
This is so annoying. If it's not the huge lag, frame drops, its the PS3 freezing on me. I can't even finish a single match!

Well, have played 3 games and gotten no experience because the game wigs out at the end.

The most recent one I went 11-10 and it was 47-45 when people just couldn't spawn anymore. The timer reached zero and then...started counting negative. After that I got booted and am still a brand new level 1... damn.

Was fun to play though.

It was for me also until after my 5th match then I started having the same problems. After 4 lockups I decided to give it a rest for tonight.
 
I'm pretty sure I'll be sticking to U2. From what little I did play, I didn't really like it. Slower default speed... why? To justify a sprint button to make fans of more popular shooters more comfortable? In what way was this change needed? It just makes a mess of your control scheme, Naughty Dog.

Seems the team in charge really doesn't get it at all. Oh well.
 
Sad day.

Waited 3 hours to download the file and finally got on the servers. 2 Minutes into a game huge lag spikes and crashes galore.

Probably will wait until some of these issues get resolved. If they ever do, maybe if they last super long they will extend the beta to give us more play time.
 
Wow, finally got into a free for all, 2 seconds of playing and I get a freeze kick. Reason? For killing a team mate... it was free for all...
 
glad I got to play a few silky smooth games before I went to bed last night, cuz now the game is unplayable for me… frame rate in the single digits if I'm lucky, then it'll just either boot me out or freeze completely. Co-op fares a little better but still gets bogged down. Have yet to finish a match this afternoon. Guess I'll try again later. Is anyone actually getting playable games at this time?

I did manage to get Sully stuck in the floor of the chateau though :P
 
I really hope the people involved are realizing the mistakes they've made and aren't just shrugging off peoples' complaints. I doubt they'd swallow their pride and do what needs to be done.
 
Looks like the playlist shuffle unlocked Yemen before schedule, I just played it under the Free For All playlist.
 
It just blows my mind that this is such a rocky experience because this is not ND's first mp beta. UC2 did not have any of these issues and still managed to feel more cohesive and well laid out. What happened?
 
When it runs the game is really fun, the only thing i'd tweak is to make the damage a bit more, takes forever to kill someone.

Finally got a whole, lag free match in and did well.
 
I'm playing solo at the moment and really hate being put into games to fill gaps because every time it has happened, the other team has been up by 8 kills+. It's just infuriating to come into a match already at a disadvantage, and have it end in less than five minutes. Other than that, I've been enjoying myself.

UC2 beta was limited. This beta is open to PSN+ members, which is basically every single PSN user because of the Sony breach.
 
Holy god. The frame rate in this beta is giving me a headache. I really hope this isn't what I have to look forward to in the final product.

Very true. Does anyone know if it is the sudden influx of players that could be causing the insane framerate dips and freezes or if that is something else entirely?

I'm thinking it's related to the traffic. Good test for the launch period and Christmas though.

There's some sort of bug that tanks the frame rate when the server is running under heavy load. It was running much better in the morning when the server load was much smaller.
