Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

Just put about 3 hours in with no problems except for a bit of lag my friend had in our last match. It ran great. Three Team Deathmatch is awesome. Power Plays definitely need some work though. And the G-MAL is lovely.

Hmm, I actually never performed a taunt in U2. I wanted to after the fiver but I didn't know what to do. What's the button to press?

I went into 4 games so far, 2 froze on me causing me to hard reset my Ps3. and 2 is lagging all over the freaking place. Man Uncharted 2 Beta was so fucking good, how the hell do you go from that to this shit... :(

X while standing still. There's also a booster that gives you ammo every time you taunt someone you killed.

I envy you, really I do... I have a feeling this Beta is gonna kill my Ps3 if i keep hard resetting it... :(
 
Not a fan of the aiming in this game, feels too clunky...I got into games with no problems and no framerate issues, but after I quit my PS3 froze. I restarted it, and my friends list is gone... :(

Indeed... love what they did with the G-MAL. Rarely ever used it in U2 but I've been using it primarily so far.
 
Uncharted 3 too hot for PSN to handle.

Seems to be an indication for massive interest in Uncharted at least, ND can't be too unhappy about that. :P

That is what I am afraid of. I already received the message that my PS3 was not shut down properly from doing a hard reset after it crashed. I think I may just delete it and skip out on this one. It's unplayable for me anyway.

It's probably because everyone is PS+ member now. And U3 is a flagship title.

Fucking guy on my team was rampaging us when we got waylaid by the Cursed kickback. It was his first match, but oh boy accidentally grenading him twice in a row was delicious.

Just had 5 matches in a row with no framedrops or freezes (one super laggy host though :( )

I swear if ND 1.5's the health in this game I will rage so hard.
Current health pools invite teamplay and use of the cover system, doing either is greatly rewarded atm because it increases your survivability by a lot.

You can do consistently well and die little by sticking together and playing smart, because you don't constantly die to random stray bullets.

It's still plenty easy to kill people, and it's definitely easier to kill many people in a row like this, you get a chance to dive for cover if you are already next to it, or use smoke or use a grenade to cover your escape around a corner.
You also get to move up from cover to cover if you outnumber the opponent because they won't hail you down on that 0,5 sec you stick your head out.

Watch them shit on the gameplay by lowering health (or boosting damage with higher level perks:\ )

Buddy system and spawns in general (with the exception of the airplane bit) seem great for being able to control some ground and protect eachother's flank.
 
Game finally finished downloading and it froze on my first match after just a couple minutes, didn't even get a kill. Hopefully the fix will be out tomorrow or the next day.

Also, seems like ND is working right now to fix it and it's 21:30 over there..

Oh wow. I can purchase the Call Out mod right now. Not sure what to think about that...
 
So is there a list of gaffers playing the beta yet? I ask mainly for us lonely non-USA players (read: Ausgaf) who don't want to play with randoms - not that there's anything wrong with someone laughing at you in some foreign language.
 
Like 5 or 6 perfect games in a row, then the Beta signs me out of PSN. Sigh.

My initial impressions are that multiplayer with the Uncharted traversal and shooting mechanics is still amazing.

Aside from that, Power Plays seems to be the spawn of Satan, and I already hate them. Being down by 10 KILLS is NOT destroying a team Naughty Dog, ease the hell up. Then I'm punished by being marked, not in a VIP match no in a TEAM DEATHMATCH, because I'm doing well. WTF. Causes me to have to completely change the style of play that GOT ME ON THE STREAK because now everyone's out for my ass with the aid of a visual indicator. I don't like that AT ALL.

Those and some of the kickbacks seem to completely change how this game plays at times. One minute you think you have the drop on someone, the next he pulls an RPG out of his ass, and you lose the skirmish even after assessing the situation.

I like the maps, but I do see the cutscenes getting annoying in the long run. If they couldn't, for example, land the plane without a cutscene interrupting the shootouts, they should've left it out of multiplayer.

IDK, the mechanics are still there, and I love the buddy system, but I feel like they went overboard with this one.

People are already complaining about the high health on the beta forums.

Now, I know someone is going to step in and say "Have better aim" or "Aim at their head," and I'll be the first to admit that sometimes I am spraying a little too much, and it's probably my fault. However, even when I'm at the top of my game, firing in controlled bursts, with my crosshairs perfectly on them, I still feel it takes WAAAAAYYYY too many bullets to kill these humans that are clad only in cloth. Not only that, but they can somehow run, jump, roll, somersault like a botard any time they start getting shot out, thus making it impossible for even the most skilled player to hit them. Which brings me to my next issue.

There should be a cooldown on how much you can roll/jump. It's ridiculous when as soon as my enemy gets hit by my first bullet. They go into this spastic, seizure induced convulsions, and start rolling, jumping, somersaulting around like they have fire ants in their pants, or like they are some olympic athlete in training. It's just ridiculously dumb...

Then there's the guns, which are horrible inaccurate. I won't bother being long-winded about this. I'll just say that they are some of the most inaccurate guns I've ever used since my first time ever playing a game with guns, and I've been playing games for decades now.

Then there's the issue of grenades. If somehow everything comes together for you as a player, and you manage to kill somebody. They will just chuck a grenade at your feet as soon as they realize they are losing. You will have to continue the last few shots on that player (because it takes like 30 bullets to kill someone), and end up having to wait a little too long before you can dive away. Which usually means you get killed. Or you have to dive away before you kill that person, and by the time you get back on target, they have rounded a corner, or regenerated all their health. Either way it's a kill for them right before they die, or it's a "get out of jail free" card.


A combination of the excellent cover system in this game, the enemies ability to dive/roll/somersault around like a buffoon, it taking 6-12 bullets to kill someone, the horribly inaccurate guns, the suicide grenades, etc. All of that combines into a completely unsatisfying multiplayer experience that, more often than not, makes you feel like you are getting robbed of kills unfairly, or you yourself are getting killed unfairly. Or at the very least, gives the illusion that the players on the enemy team are effing impossible to kill...
In the end, maybe what I'm saying is that this game is too defensive. That there are too many ways to survive getting shot at. Too many ways to get safe, and recover your health, or break even with your Kill/Death ratio by dropping a grenade any time you are about to die. It's really a pain in the ass when you are the one doing the shooting. Sure, it's great when you are getting shot at, because then you can spaz out by rolling/jumping like a monkey, and not die. But the game shouldn't so heavily favor the person getting shot at like it does right now, and like it did in Uncharted 2.


If this is a design decision, count me out. I'll rent the game, play the singleplayer story, and send it back, because personally, I feel that those things are terrible things to have in a shooter. Period.
 
Hrmm, that "call out" booster reminds me of MGO... in a good way :D

I imagine its use is pretty limited though, unless the player just sucks at aiming, or its an especially good opposition player.
 
Power Plays = COMPLETELY unnecessary. Why? If you're dominating a team it's because you're better than them, don't need this weird ass shit like turning everyone to skeletons. Come on now.

The GAL feels like a U2 FAL pre-patches and feels soooo good.

Just hit a rough patch of weird lag/dropped games/dropped PSN.

Btw the curse power play is no big deal really, turns out you can still see who is an enemy and who is a friendly by aiming at them (green or red name).
So it doesn't really do anything.
If your team sticks together and doesn't run off like a headless chicken you also know who to expect where.

The marked man thing works really well too, it can just as easily backfire if the team hunting him breaks their defence/ignores covering eachother and rushes for him.

The latter is really more of an ingame dynamic objective with a slight advantage for the losing team, a la section 8.
 
The high health in this beta is NOT an issue. I actually like Uncharted 2 the way it is now, but the health in the Uncharted 3 Beta doesn't annoy me one bit.

You just summed up my feelings in one sentence. Overboard, cluttered, and bloated all describe the multiplayer pretty well IMO. The base is fairly solid (albeit tweaked from UC2), but there is so much extra fluff that is not needed weighing the good down.

Also, I hate the cutscenes and think they have no place in mp whatsoever.

I think it's an issue with the AK-47 being a little weak. The kill times feel perfect with the G-MAL.

At times, Uncharted 3 feels like the Mr. Caffeine of MP shooters. Trying way, way too hard.

There is a hardcore mode where all these extras don't exist if you don't want them.

I don't have any problems with it.
 
I knew this would happen people complained about the lower health for ages after 1.05 and now that its back they don't like it anymore. Ridiculous how indecisive people are.
 
Do ya guys think maybe the cutscenes are there to cover up loading screens? Would it be preferable to sit at a load screen? I think I like the seamless cutscene to gameplay.
