Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

Yeh, tried this last night and it kept lagging superbad, even though everyone around me is still playing. Got the patch this morning and same issue, and it seems to bog down my entire system, even when I pull up the PS XMB it lags bad.

Man. What a complete and utter waste of time. I downloaded the beta yesterday, installed it, tried to give it a run. Tried 3 differ modes, matchmaking didn't find enough players to start a single game. Total mess. I thought, oh well, I'll try the next day, the US doesn't have the game yet after all. So I decide to give it another spin 10 mins ago, to kill some time before watching Transformers 3 in an hour or so. Oh look, there's a patch! Cool. Patched. Game loads up. ERROR CONNECTING TO SESSION MANAGER. Yeah, whatever. This beta can fuck it.

Exact same experience as myself.

I thought I'd get everything done this morning so I could settle down for a nice afternoon of play. Turns out I should have done it the other way around.

I wish they would get rid of the matchmaking. For me it always puts me in really laggy games after 15-20 minute wait for a match.
I agree. I wish all console games had a server browser like Warhawk.

Is it normal that while it tries to connect, the whole thing freezes and I have to turn the PS3 power off? =(

Actually, the first time it tried to patch, my PS3 rebooted. I didn't mention that because I didn't think it was the game software causing it. But now that you mention it....

Yeah, in that case I'll stay away from the beta until I read that people are having a better time connecting. It's way too buggy, I don't want to end up breaking my PS3 because of this game.

official dedicated servers with an option for users to set their own (Warhawk basically) so the game never dies is the way to go... but they're too cheap to spend extra cash on them, p2p seems to be the only option for devs these days no matter their 'pedigree'. Let Marn download porn in his basement while he hosts some mp game making the room laggy and stuff... and we're almost in 2012 people, wow.

we played some good 3 hours earlier today without a single hiccup, freeze, kick, or disconnect... it's clear ND need to set up additional servers to handle the number of players... unless they're expecting the flood to fade after 2-3 days and they're doing nothing but wait.

I downloaded this yesterday, It took longer than expected to download 1.5gb (about 10 minutes) I got to play it for a couple hours and it was smooth sailing. I liked what I saw and I never lagged once. Then I got on gaf to see what was going on and I saw all the complaints about the lag so when I got on and saw a patch I was expecting the game to run even smoother, but alas, it is giving me an error sign.

This happened to me too. First time, rebooted, second time, downloaded/installed the patch. Got 3 games in before being booted off PSN and freezing upon reconnection.

It's a good thing it's happening to everyone, because then it will definitely get fixed quickly :lol

Maybe arne is not lying when he says its a Beta and not a demo.

It's an actual BETA. I think some people are just used to the 'beta/demo's' we usually get.

Too cheap? are you kidding me?

I think you fail to understand the problem. I'm not complaining about it running poorly. I'm complaining about it not running at all. What good is a BETA when it is completely unplayable? I haven't been able to play a single second of the game so far.

You have to wait longer than usual like 5 - 10 mins.

The way console gamers quickly migrate from game to game, they likely find it not worth setting up dedicated servers when your playerbase is pretty much gauranteed to shrivel up nowadays.

Even on the PC, they often will depend on the playerbase to set up and rent their own servers.

This beta is crazy unstable though. They need to do something about the crashing.

Wait, you have to wait 5-10 minutes to get into a single game? Yeeaaaaaaaaaah. I think I'm going to delete this right not in that case. Lol. Thanks for the warning.

Keyword "I", the beta was very playable on my PS3 on the the PS3 of many others (unless I was playing matchmaking for 3 hours by myself). So its a bit unfair to say that it is "completely unplayable" when I have only seen a handful of people mention them having problems.

I would get your ping checked out if I were you.

It wasn't this way yesterday.

When I play a beta I expect an unpolished, possibly unbalanced experience with the occasional technical hiccup. Not something that literally locks your system up and logs you out of the network for some inexplicable reason.

But thats thing. It actually helps the dev team.
They found issues under server stress.

Maybe as players we dont see anything positive of 'Sesion Manager lol" error messages but im sure its actually productive for ND. (Debug info and logs)

But i understand the frustration though. Imagine if KOFXIII had a beta and didnt work? Oh man...

I've had waits of under a minute every time. *shrugs* Maybe I'm just lucky for once, heh
Same, except yesterday after the session manager issues were solved, where I stayed stuck in matchmaking.

From what I understand, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the session manager error is due to the servers being down.

ITS A BETA?? no kidding..

what does that have to do with it? I played the Reach Beta, Gears Beta and Call of Duty and guess what nothing was as bad as this. I expected a little more from ND since other top tier shooter developers managed it and set expectations.

that's not to say I don't think its fun when it works but right now its a big mess.

Socom on PS2's nailed it. I wish more games had lobbies/server lists.

I never understood why we don't get server lists? Is there some technical reason why the devs don't include it along side matchmaking? It's so much easier to use, it's like they think people don't understand how to use lists anymore or something lol.

I played until 3am east coast time with zero lag and maybe tops of 1-2 minute player search queues. The game's great. From the hip is mad OP in this game.

Hmm, now it won't boot up (I patched it this morning). ERROR: FAILURE INITIALIZING SESSION MANAGER

Anyway to get around this?

Sometimes I get a match within a few seconds or sometimes a few minutes which I waited out till it finds a match. It's random for me everytime I boot up.

No you played the demos, I also played those "betas" and the same problems I had with the betas were present in the final retail game. And on most occasions very little was changed at all in terms of appearance or performance.

:D It was a just a silly example i havent got that error yet. (I only played one match and it froze)

So what's the consensus on game stability after the patch?

I played two games last night: first one was alright with framerate in the 15-30 FPS range, but the second game on the moving plane was a slideshow ending with me having to do a hard reset and calling it quits after that.

I wasn't getting wait times like that at all. 1-2 minutes at max.

While the health is still lower than U2 1.04, it doesn't really matter at all because the maps are actually designed around that problem. There is always an escape route nearby or a piece of cover to hide behind for a bit.

The map design is extremely impressive. I really love both of them and should probably try out FFA just to play the Yemen map.

You guys really should have included custom games along with a map similar to The Stage so that U2GAF could really tell you some of the issues.

Well that is the point of betas, to solve these kinds of problems. Hopefully beta testers are actually reporting all their problems in the proper place and not just going "fuck this" and deleting the beta

COD and Reach Betas were really just glorified demos that were meant to get you to poney up money for a near finished product with little actual changes made at final release.

.

this x 1000

I remember you guys usually gathered to test everything after each patch (and even without the excuse of a new patch), I'm positive your work in just one night is equally if not more valuable than whatever QA staff Naughty Dog is paying for each day.

Apart from that I don't know what was wrong about my 'dedicated servers' comment, I said they could turn them off when the player base no longer justifies the cost and let users set up their own server or activate the p2p code, as in Warhawk, difference being Warhawk still runs both official and custom dedicated servers... for 4 years now...

high health? AK?

I pretty much used the AK exclusively and I'm consistently top 1 or 2 on the scoreboard in TDM/HxC. The three FFA games I've played I've won 15-2, 15-4, 15-8. Again, I say learn to aim.

Agreed. Also, you have a message on PSN :p
