Uncharted 3 MP Beta Thread: Cinematic Murder Testing

Plan to avoid mp like the plague until I finish the story. I already know more about the game than I want to know.

With multiplayer launching a full month before the game actually comes out, I think a lot of people are gonna have a hard time waiting for the game to launch before jumping into multi. I know I won't be doing that this time. As much as I want to finish SP before jumping into MP, I know I won't have the willpower to ignore it for a whole month.

Thought it was my connection causing the problem. Glad to see it isn't just me but sucks it is a problem for others. Just keep telling myself 'It's the beta. It is better to deal with all this shit now than in Nov'. Still annoying

It's basically gonna work like this for me:

If friends aren't on, play SP. When they get on and want to do MP, play MP.

There's a good chance they're gonna do more SP than MP at first. Once most/all the SP stuff is out the way then we'll play MP much more.

Oh man, totally forgot about that. I sure hope some of the maps aren't like "Nathan Drake Jr's Bedroom" or "The Place Where Sully Killed Chloe."

General
  • Last place team in Three Team Deathmatch now gets placed into Observer Mode in Sudden Death

Gameplay
  • Disabled the accumulation of medals to stack Medal Kickback activations. Now, if your Medal Kickback is waiting to be activated, you cannot earn more medals that count towards your Medal Kickback counter until you have activated your current Medal Kickback. Players will still be awarded medals
    Disabled the activation of a Power Play after 40 kills have been reached in Team Deathmatch
    Increase the minimum time between Power Plays activating from 30 seconds to 60 seconds

Technical
  • Made updates to reduce the long Matchmaking wait times some players were experiencing
    Fixed an issue where some in-game objects would not be able to be picked up by players
    Fixed an issue where the idol in Plunder would not reset properly. The Plunder idol will now reset to one of the specified idol spawn points
    Fixed an issue in which the team with the least amount of kills could potentially win in Sudden Death even if they finished the game with less kills than the first place team
    Fixed issue with the game timer hitting 0:00 in Co-op Hunter and the match not ending properly
    Fixed instances where some players would take damage through the shield in Co-op matches
    Fixed issues which caused some players to experience trouble connecting to Multiplayer
    Fixed an issue where some PS3 consoles would hard reset under certain circumstances
    Added support for early generation HDTV sets that do not support 720p by enabling 1080i upscaling

User Interface
  • Change “Found Player” notification to reflect the actual player ID in the Matchmaking screen after having completed a match
    Reduce the waiting time before the vote count down after a match from 30 seconds to 15 seconds
    Added an option in the Display menu for disabling Uncharted TV
    Sound from Uncharted TV now plays through TV output instead of the headset
    Enabled Facebook functionality that was temporarily disabled. Players can now use their PS3 linked Facebook accounts to view the online status of their Facebook friends, send invites, and join parties
    Invite notification now appears in the Multiplayer Lobby. Notification will appear as a red asterix in the Invites tab.
    Added an icon in the upper right corner of the screen to indicate that your buddy wants to High Five. Only appears when you and your buddy have created a “buddy kill” situation and the blue “buddy kill” icon appears on your screen.
    New font for in-game text and menus

Server
  • Added additional data tracking to aid analysis of matches, player behavior, and other technical information by Naughty Dog

Wait, seriously? Like you can 'buy' the multiplayer component a full month befpre the retail game comes out? Or do you just mean the availability of the beta?
 
Just started the BETA yesterday.

The melee attacks are NERF so bad. They were kind of abused in the last game so that's understandable I guess. The grenade throwing button has been switched, and that sort of put my KD ratio down the thank since I keep trying to throw grenades with the reload button. Though overall is does feel like it's going in the right direction for balance, but I can't say the implementation is entirely working.

I read somewhere the full multiplayer was going to be out before the SP campaign. Can't remember where I read that. Maybe is a SUBWAY thing again.

You're referring to the Subway promotion.

Subway is doing some promotion for this for the month of October. You'll probably be able to redeem a code to download the full multiplayer experience after buying a foot long sub or something.
 
So Infamous 2 had a SUBWAY promotion and now Uncharted 3?

I don't eat at SUBWAY much. Is the brand awareness for SUBWAY that good for sony to use it as a vehicle to promote their games?

I will go into a Subway sandwich binge if it lets me play Uncharted 3 multiplayer a month early! Subway is generally not too expensive with their items, and that makes it a good fit, I think. I'm sure we'd see a lot more people playing in October with Subway on board than other possible partners.
 
I couldn't update the Beta either, I think it's because I downloaded it from the Asian PSN store, now the region differences are starting to set in.

I loved being able to listen to Uncharted TV inmy headset.. :ó( so sad that it is changed.. can you not make is so that we can chose where the sound is coming from..?

What's wrong with traversal? I'd figure that you were talking about how everything is slower now, but you listed that separately. Are there a few ledges that are kind of glitched?
 
Speedy G is so broken. I only went 23-5 but I mean... come on, I got 49 medals from it:

Use Speedy G with a Micro/Pistole/Magnum/Shotgun and you are nigh unstoppable. Now that the kickbacks work as they should have in the beginning, it'll be less of a problem but it still needs tweaking. It's incredibly difficult to track a zig-zagging Speedster with the sluggish aiming controls.

I said this before, but after playing InFamous 2 (this game takes alot from Ass Creed in traversal tips), it is somewhat infuriating when your character just knees the wall when you know exactly where you want to go.

As a UC veteran I shouldn't be feeling this way.
 
Update isn't up for me

I wonder how this game would work if kickbacks were rewarded to the losing team/players and powerplays were offered to both (i.e. have two marked men)

I don't like this. It will only encourage the use of certain kickbacks.

I said this before, but after playing InFamous 2 (this game takes alot from Ass Creed in traversal tips), it is somewhat infuriating when your character just knees the wall when you know exactly where you want to go.

As a UC veteran I shouldn't be feeling this way.

As a UC2 vet, I'm not having this problem. ;)

What is with game devs and scattered updates?

Is it Sony causing this or just the dev being a pain in the arse because I can't update to 1.02 :/
 
I have sat here for 45 minutes and haven't onnected to ONE game. someone on GAF Add me, I wanna hit up some gamez, thuway2.

I know I was one of the many who originally said kickbacks could be abused for that, but after playing a lot more I'd say that preventing medals from stacking would probably discourage low-requirement kickbacks and encourage higher-requirement ones (like RPG or Creepy Crawler) way too much. Increasing the medal requirements for some kickbacks (like, for example, bringing the smoke bomb to 10) would probably work better.

Agreed. My impressions changed heavily after I got more playtime.
 
I don't think first impressions have impacted the game so far. Reading the patch notes, I see no actual change based on first impressions...they seem like long-term impression fixes.

LOVE the patch, arne. There's so many positive changes IMO made in it.

BTW, you know that glitch in Plunder that was prevalent in Uncharted 2 where players can carry the idol with their hands all glitched which gave them SUPER SPEED? Well it's here again. Jesus. What. People are exploiting it already. :(

Let me say that the higher healths makes Plunder less frustrating that in Uncharted 2. I can pick it up and still escape from death if I'm being shot. That is such a fucking blessing you don't even know how appreciative I am for it. But please, fix that glitch ASAP.
 
The buddy spawn system needs some adjusting. Here is how I believe it should work:

The non-stacking medal kickback thing pretty much gets rid of smokebomb. No point in using something that is an extremely risky escape when you can only use it once. Spamming clusterbomb or rocket (which results in a lot of deaths) is much preferable with the new system.

is ND ever going to get rid of the ridiculous requirment for needing Medals to change loadouts? Why would any sane person be for this? Every other Shooter with a loadout doesn't have some ballbreaking requirement for changing weapons.

Any argument built on "every other game does it this way" only is wrong by default.

A lot of those games don't have weapon pick ups

The goal is likely to get players to explore the map to get the weapons they want, instead of just getting them the first time they respawn.
The trasversal element is pretty important in this series, conforming to other games is what got us 1.05 in Uncharted 2.

I don't recall grenades being on R2.
 
Oh ffs, my PS3 keeps shutting down without any warning when playing the beta, no led light or anything, have to switch it off and on again at the wall :\

3 month old slim as well :'(
