Uncharted The Nathan Drake Collection gameplay

This is gonna sound weird to people, but sometimes less is MORE in regards to frame rate.

At 60fps, you will notice more flaws with the animations and the game feels more "gamey" and looks less filmic.

Yes, I am a gamer who prefers 30fps for these types of games.

I understand Call of Duty and Rocket League being 60fps for that arcade-like gameplay, but leave it out of our adventure games.

60fps doesn't look more "realistic" to me… in fact it makes the game look cheesy to me even if the graphics are good.

It could be in part that when I see a game running in 60fps, it reminds me that the graphics are not as good as they could be. They could turn the visuals up higher and give us a better overall presentation and even better physics or destruction at 30fps instead of a watered down 60fps game.

No matter how fast the hardware gets, you can ALWAYS do more with TWICE the amount of render time with 30fps over 60fps. ALWAYS and that's never going to change.

The entire reason they are doing these games at 60 is because they have the leeway, they are 7th gen games after all even enhanced.

What your saying would only apply if they were making a game from ground up built to take full advantage of the PS4's power, in which case we have UC4.

You're kidding right? At 30fps, animation flaws stick out immaculately. At least in 60fps they interblend them together to smooth out frame gaps.

And yet MGSV is now sitting at the top of the metacritic this year. It doesn't matter how good your visuals and features are; there are 3 things you need to keep in mind:

1) Next-gen hardware would always do more than than the previous one, 60fps or not

2) Visuals and or elements are significantly boosted in every generation.

3) The 30fps advantage is approaching diminishing returns every generation. There will come a point where hardware is so powerful that to target 30fps to DOUBLE whatever would no longer be that jump within the gameplay space.
 
Yes, it does sound weird. It's not about it being "realistic" to me. Latency matters a lot to me. 60fps just feels more responsive. This is one of the reasons that I'm primarily a PC gamer so that I can tweak settings to get the performance that I want. I also play console games on a monitor as well.

Some games such as turn based or PnC games don't really benefit from 60fps. However, action games definitely benefit from it. Uncharted IS an action game. It's not an old school tomb raider adventure game.

Also, we are talking about a remaster. A higher framerate should be expected.

Isn't the latency difference between 30fps and 60fps so mi-nute most people can't even react that fast..
it would only matter in games like street fighter where you need to anticipate action.

That's wrong. Regardless of the merits of 60fps, your essentially multiplying what you can do at 30fps in terms of render time on screen. That can be used for anything, both CPU and GPU, and definitely makes a difference in every scenario. There is no diminishing return as long as your pushing your system for something above and beyond.

What I meant to say that there will come a point where a theoretical feature can be so dense that even with the extra render provided by 30fps would be difficult to ascertain. Let's say you can blow up a building with distinctive quality on 60fps, that it looks fairly realistic along with the dust and particles. What exactly is that extra render going to do that makes that look more significant? Now multiply that in every generation and you get the bigger picture.
 
I haven't seen any media for this yet but I did get to try Uncharted 2 at PAX yesterday. While the framerate was great, one thing that stood out the most to me were the ugly shadows which were a horrible, jaggy mess. Hopefully that was just an early build

Hahah, I'm usually pro higher-res over fps, but GODDAMN!!!

Less weird, more downright comical. I wish I could see through your eyes to see what you see, and I really mean that as I find it so odd anyone could actually prefer 30fps which feels so choppy compared to 60fps. I guess it just comes down to what you're used to.

perfect example is tlou remastered. i thought the performance was fine on ps3 but when you toggle between the two settings...night and day. even with locked 30fps...game feels off after you've been playing 60fps
 
Played uncharted 2 at PAX today. The 60fps feels amazing, but for me it was just seeing all that glorious detail throughout the game. Got me super hyped for the collection and UC4.

The biggest takeaway was just how fluid it felt.

Let's say you can blow up a building with distinctive quality on 60fps, that it looks fairly realistic along with the dust and particles. What exactly is that extra render going to do that makes that look more significant? Now multiply that in every generation and you get the bigger picture.

We're absolutely nowhere close to even approaching this rendering singularity you speak of. Get back to me when we have full ray traced lighting with multiple bounces in every game.

Better than I remember, I had no trouble quickly aiming at heads. Going in and out of cover felt a little sticky, but I think that was more so compared to last of us.

When i went from Dark Souls 2 (60fps) to Bloodborne (30fps) the difference in how i played was massive, only due to the increased time it took for my actions to manifest on screen.

In DkS2 i could simply react to what i was seeing on screen, i saw the enemy's arm move, and i dodged.
In BB, it was so slow to perform the action, that i had to basically guess, when the enemy was going to attack, based on how much time had passed from the last one (i did this mostly intuitively, but still).

So yes, 30 to 60 is a big difference, and i expect 120fps would be an even bigger difference.

Also, if the frame rate drops from 60 to 30, it's going to be a much bigger jump than if the frame rate drops from 30fps to 20fps.

Sure, but both are unacceptable and both would ruin the experience for me.

I've been gaming at 30fps for years and with a controller, it's fine. I can see how if you're using a mouse and keyboard, it would feel way too laggy at 30fps, but you don't get that same feeling from a controller in my opinion.

Some 30fps games have the controller response of a 60fps game (such as the Need for Speed Most Wanted reboot).

One more thing. There's nothing that bothers me more than a game where the frame rate fluctuates all over the place from 30-60. That's very bothersome for me. If the game can't handle a constant 60fps, then cap it at 30 so you at least get a consistent experience. When Killzone Shadow Fall and Infamous Second Son got a 30fps option, it made the games more enjoyable for me (even though those games kinda sucked, but at least the frame rates were consistent).
 
Do you think the ps4 will drop to 299$ or 350$ with this game anytime soon? I never played uncharted and I loved tomb raider, so I assume this is my kind of game. I'm just not going to pay 399$ for a console in which I'll only play 2 games.

I had the chance to play Uncharted 2's Nepal area at Fan Expo. The game looks great in-person. It looks really bright and lively. I haven't played the game in years, so I was definitely garbage at it.

Uncharted 2 was already a great-looking game, and bumping it up to PS4 just makes it look even better. I'm hoping Uncharted 1 gets that much of an upgrade as well.

Should be great,I will assume it will have zero tearing as well.

So 1080p 60FPS, new gunplay, motion controls only for grenades as and option and whatever else they will add.
 
Will be picking this up, even though I've played all the games (especially 1 & 2) loads of times, probably more than any other series. I want to replay the trilogy before 4, and this will definitely be the way to do it (especially UC1 could be pretty rough to go back to on the PS3 now). UC4 MP beta access will be a sweet bonus. I hope they really nail it this time, which would basically mean going back to what made UC2 MP 1.0 so great. That was my favorite online shooter ever.
I know right? There's games I absolutely love but beat once or twice and never had a desire to play again, and then there's Uncharted 1 and 2 where it's like "I'm not doing anything, hmmm . . . I can pay through all of Uncharted again!" Uncharted 3 I played twice.
 
In that IGN video, definitely seems to be considerably more load times than the original game...check out 2:07...

Yeah, that loading screen dagger never shows up in a playthrough of Uncharted. Maybe this is a consequence of moving to real time cutscenes....

The dagger loading screen does show up on the PS3 when you replay a chapter (that hasn't been previously cached).

Not that it isn't quite possible that load times will change, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that be one of the optimizations that gets dealt with shortly before release.
 
I keep telling myself I don't need it and that with Tomb Raider this year along with this years other games, and Uncharted 4 next year I won't play them.

But I pretty much know I'll crack. After beating MCC and having got the Gears Ultimate edition I'm feeling super good about collections. Specifically collections of a great series though.
You'll get that UC4 mp beta though, chance to see UC4 in action, that's why I'm probably getting it day 1
