Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection | Review Thread

That's 3 of us, I thought it played phenomenally well. There's plenty of crazy opinions floating around on GAF ('The Winter Soldier is the greatest film of all time', 'Knack is a great game' etc), but none are crazier than 'TLOU has bad gameplay'

Ofc TLOU has amazing gameplay :) one of the only single player games where I go back to individual levels to replay combat encounters. I've played through Pittsburgh at least 15 times, probably more!

Excuse me the bolded is actually true though. Winter Soldier should have won the 2014 Best Film Oscar.

Had no idea Jim rated U3 far above U2. I am disappoint.

Yeah, seriously I don't rate the guy himself at all. He's good but he's not great.

Seconded - I do the same with many of Uncharted 2's levels on Crushing. Eg the Blizzard Train Crash Site, the Borneo level. On Crushing there are so many golden bits. Edit: No wait - I think I mean Nepal. The bit with the bus etc. Totally gold. Borneo still decent but basically a tutorial.

Finished Drake's Fortune, now on my Crushing run. Just judging from this game alone, the remaster is stellar. I'm having so much fun replaying the original, and most of my annoyances then are gone now. Plat for U1 is close, can't wait to start the others. You should watch that DigitalFoundry vid linked above to see they went all the way here.

When the OT hits, I'm curious to read impressions from people playing through all 3 games for the first time (in the best possible way)

It's a bit strange that it's Friday for you Americans because it's out Wednesday for us in Europe.

It seems to be a Naughty Dog thing since TLOU's PS3 release.

Though I'm definitely poking around retail stores on Tuesday to see if they put it out with the other games.

That's a scary thought. Personally Winter Soldier was my 54th greatest film of last year out of 64 films I saw. Pretty much your typical overlong action film. I'm not usually fan of the genre though.

TLOU has actually a great gameplay, balanced and enjoyable. I never had any problems with the gameplay in Uncharted either, though of course it's not quite on the level of TLOU.

The demo was slightly disappointing because there was a glitch where I got stuck behind a couch. Too late to fix that, right?

As someone who never played any Uncharted, should I go with this or MGS V? :)

I personally think you should definitely go with Uncharted, especially if you are into some good adventure in Indiana Jones style with memorable and fun characters.

MGS V has been a bit disappointment to me personally, the open world feels empty and barren and the missions are repetitive. This might change when I play more though.

It won't change.

Played up to Chapter 12 of Drake's Fortune today. The aiming is a significant improvement over the original, and the new textures are great. Blue point have done a fantastic job.

Thanks to Simply the best site for Games I'm playing through uncharted 1 now. Unpopular opinion but I still like the first game over the second and third. I think it's due a lot to nostalgia as it was my first PS3 game.

No code sharing for uncharted 4 beta though as it used the disk to verify.

Just played through the demo. If I was on the fence before I'm definitely not now. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed Uncharted. Definitely picking it up after the Battlefront beta ends.

First mystery I can't wait to solve is if they updated the controls in the first game.

I actually played it not too long ago and still find the controls to be, not as good as 2 and 3, but definitely ok.

That said, some previews/reviews have said they were updated, others have said they weren't. I'd definitely prefer if they were. I find it odd that this hasn't been definitively settled.

Anyway, will settle it myself, very soon.

Mine came today, surprised me as I didn't expect it this early. Playing through Drakes Fortune now.

You can tell it's the oldest game in the series but the shooting feels a little better now, thanks to the tweaks they made. The graphics look really good and it feels nice and smooth at 60fps, Bluepoint seem to have done an excellent job. Really looking forward to going through U2 and 3 again now after I finish the 1st one.

Definitely purchase UCC next month. Demo was a lot of fun and I missed them all on PS3.

Well that's great to hear. Thanks for cheering me up as I'm having hard enough time to keep myself interested of playing. :) Well at least the gameplay is great..

It's not really an open world game, so playing with that mindset probably doesn't help. It's more of a 'free infiltration' game, like Far Cry 2. You're given all kinds of tools and all kinds of ways to infiltrate, so if you use your imagination and play with the systems you'll probably get more out of it.

Hope that helps!

I do think this mindset might be helpful, thanks for the tips! I don't generally consider an open world important part of the game. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. Maybe with MGS V they didn't quite get everything out of it. The stealth gameplay has been excellent and I've enjoyed it so far.

Not to go completely OT my Uncharted collection was already shipped and I'm waiting for it to arrive early next week.

Played up to Chapter 10 of Drake's Fortune. Lining up headshots is still an issue. Feels like if the reticule is ever so slightly off centre, you'll miss completely. :/
