Underrated Games That Had Their Sequels Canceled

Star Trek: Birth of the Federation had its sequel cancelled due to Star Trek basically dying after the one-two-three punch of Voyager, Enterprise, and Nemesis.

Ironically, the new game was actually going to show the birth of the Federation, since it started in the Enterprise era. unlike the first game, which was set in the TNG/DS9 era.

God Prey 2 looked amazing, and now it's never coming and it made me sad.
Isn't Arkane Studios actually working on the project right now? I always assumed the cancellation just referred to the Human Head Studios variant. I know Bethesda has denied the involvement of the Dishonored team, but I haven't heard any immediate dismissals after the supposed e-mail leaks stated it was still in secretive development back in August 2013.

Back on topic, I recall there were numerous indications of a successor to the Siren: Blood Curse reboot in production with Sony Asia hosting a "create-a-Shibito" contest as well as a UK PSN questionnaire in October 2008 that inquired customers about their reception toward the alternate timeline, probable new characters, episodic release schedule, graphical appeal, and possibility of increasing gore/combat.

Zone of the Enders 3 receiving the axe was a punch to the gut almost akin to the Mega Man Legends sequel in my view. Hideo Kojima had continuously been stating that a third installment would likely see the light of day sometime in the future over the years. The unveiled concept artwork and ancient civilization render were absolutely intriguing, but they nixed it simply from the mixed reception of the HD Collection which resulted from their own incompetence when they built the remasters around a downgraded 30fps and the small team designated to the sequel was shifted to building the PS3 patch.

Yep. Fucking goddammit this. We need more games like Timesplitters.

So basically Arkane will release Prey 2 by either adding some minor things at the end but keeping most things the same like Gearbox did for Duke Nukem Forever. Or they'll try to change it dramatically, which I see no reason to do if the product was already great, and it probably was considering how it led to all that predatory crap from Bethesda. What a shit show.

In either case, I wonder if Human Head will get credit for their work when the game finally comes out.

Split/ Second.

Despite the incredibly lame rubber-banding, I loved that game so much and got 100% completion in it. The set piece destructible environments looked absolutely phenomenal at full-spec on PC.

I thought it was amazing on the PS3. Hopefully someday we'll get a sequel.

I bet Bethesda feel pretty stupid regarding Prey 2, after all the support it got in the wake of the canceling fiasco. It sucks that Arkane are still stuck with them. I fear for its life as a studio putting out creative games having to work with people like Pete Hines.

MAG 2

It was my favorite FPS of the last generation and one of my top 5 favorite PS3 games. I know Zipper is gone but hopefully someone brings it back.

Disney pls.

Also, having watched much of the Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon, I'm surprised a sequel/remake hasn't already been announced. So much of that cartoon is directly influence from this game, it's pretty obvious that the team that worked on that cartoon loved the game.

Arkane Austin is making a System Shock spiritual sequel on the Cryengine. Bethesda's forcing them to use the Prey licence and nothing from Human Head's game will be carried over.

Higher-ups at Arkane are telling the team to forget that it's called Prey 2 and just treat it like a new System Shock.

I fucking hate you for making me aware this game had a sequel in the making. I hate you so much.

My nom goes to ZombiU and Ryse.

Baten Kaitos DS. A small part of me hopes that the Xenoblade n3DS port is their way of getting ready for Baten Kaitos 3DS.

Too Human. The fact that I'll never get the trilogy still stings.
The sequels were never canned because they never existed. They had a plan of where to take it, but no real work ever started.

Heavenly Sword 2 was also in development, but was subsequently cancelled.
Probably just prototypes.

As painful as it is to not receive a sequel, it's for the best. You do NOT want the Ubisoft of today having anything to do with the franchise, would you?
BGAE2 would be by Ubi Montpellier who seem to be impervious to Ubisoft's nonsense. Just look at their quality output in the last few years

Valiant Hearts
Rayman Legends
ZombiU
Rayman Origins

Whoa. They need to use that studio for like....everything. That's a 4/4 strike rate right there. Just did a quick Wikipedia check, and outside a couple of "average" games, they're actually a pretty solid

Rayman
Rayman 2: The Great Escape
Rayman Arena
Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc
Beyond Good & Evil
Tork: Prehistoric Punk
Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie
Rayman Raving Rabbids
Rabbids Go Home
From Dust
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn
Rayman Origins
ZombiU
Rayman Legends
Valiant Hearts: The Great War

Harpoon 4
The trilogy is incredible, but also incredibly niche. The 4th one looked amazing and thanks to good graphics could have made the audience much bigger. Shame Ubi canceled it :(

Nexus 2
The first Nexus Remains one of the finest games ever when it comes to space tactics, up there with Homeworld, and the sequel looked amazing. The tragedy is that they were trying to gather funds through crowdfunding some time ago, but failed

Freelancer 2
This one is a bit of a stretch. It definitely got underrated when it launched. In decade afterwards people learned to look more warmly at it though, which was helped by surprisingly great mod community. The fact that sequel was supossed to be 360 exclusive was pure idiocy on Microsoft's part and it might have eneded up destroying the game, but I still wished they would have at least tried

Jumpgate Evolution
The first Jumpgate was one of the very few cases of action-based space MMO that actually worked. Cancelation of sequel was a tragedy.

Yeah they single handedly keep me from hating Ubisoft to the core. I mean even the fucking King Kong and Tintin tie-ins were quite good.
