Unpopular Star Wars Opinions

ANH is kind of boring though enjoyable at the same time and Empire is the only truly fantastic thing in the entire Star Wars universe (though I haven't read the Timothy Zahn novels and Empire truly is amazing). Some of the games (like Battlefront, the SNES games, and Force Unleashed) are pretty darn good though, as is RotJ. Also RotS is really flawed but still enjoyable in its own right, it's probably better than the average forgettable action Summer blockbuster film.

Also, the Rogue Squadron games are bad.
I don't like any games focus on controlling space ships in 3D though.

I hate that they made Darth a sith title in the prequels. I always thought it was just Vader's first name, especially how Obi Wan called him just Darth a couple times.

My friends who are huge Star Wars fans feel the same way you do.

And I respect the opposing opinion. It's just not mine :)
It's all good man. I have a friend who loves the original Star Wars Trilogy, but hates Luke and Han. Haha, no idea how you could like it if you hate the two leads, but whatever.

- Return of the Jedi has always been my favorite even though it has some obvious low points, it's high points were always well executed and closed the series pretty well.
- I'm not really bothered by Midichlorians, they are still however rather pointless and don't amount to anything in the long run (as did many things in the prequels).
- All three prequels suck, including Revenge of the Sith. Episode 1 was the best out of the three.
- 3D Clone Wars > 2D Clone Wars and it isn't even close. Both are some of the best outside materials regardless.
- The problem with the prequels has always been it's direction and editing. George had a cast of people that could've put on amazing performances outside of a few like Hayden, but he just didn't direct them right and made them talk in the most monotone and stoic voices making everything feel unnatural. The writing is bad, but bad writing could've been made into something enjoyable and it simply wasn't by anyone in the crew. Basically, the source of the problem with the prequels is primarily George's directorial style.
- George Lucas is overrated as a director. Never been a fan of his previous works that everyone lauds as being underrated classics. THX 1138 is mediocre at best, and the original Star Wars is merely an accident cause everyone around him was pressuring him to make a good movie.

Same. They didn't call the Emperor "Darth" in Return of the Jedi, why the hell did it become a thing?

Out of the 6 movies you liked The Phantom Menace the best and found The Empire Strikes Back awful.

I may enjoy the saga overall....but, whew, you weren't kidding about that thread title OP.

I really don't mind the Ewoks. They didn't really ruin RotJ for me at all, they just felt like more useful versions of Jawas.

Their inclusion certainly wasn't as bad as "I don't like sand."

original trilogy fights were inspired by samurai films with the ferocity and whatever while the prequel trilogy were inspired by wuxia/chinese action films (crouching tiger, hero) with the flips and wacky shit. different styles of fighting so who cares they're both stupid and cool.

I like ghost Hayden in ROTJ a lot.Feels better after a full marathon.

I also liked the prequels.

OT combat sucks ass, stop pretending its exciting , only Luke vs Vader round 2 had feels there. Emotional and Exciting are not the same thing.

Rebels and Clone Wars are both Great.

Force Unleashed deserved to be non canon

Fighting Yoda blew my mind and still is one of my favorite moments on the franchise

the new lightsaber makes sense.

Come. At. Me.

Yeah, the only reason...

star-wars-gif.gif

12 frames of film have ruined my argument. Why didn't I talk about the 1.2 seconds of film that were good? Internet's method of "GIF fights" to "objectively" prove the better movie is beyond me!

I doubt OP is the type to sit down and watch three feature length reviews, no matter how entertaining they may be.

The Phantom Menace is the most important one, though! That movie makes absolutely no sense and Qui-Gon is goddamn terrible from start to finish.

Same. They didn't call the Emperor "Darth" in Return of the Jedi, why the hell did it become a thing?

Lucas needed a way to call the Emperor something that wasn't 'The Emperor' in TPM. So he chose to make Darth a title and gave Palps the name Darth Sidious.

idk it's dumb

People didn't like fighting yoda? Why?

Because it literally goes against everything that Yoda was explained to be in ESB. Sure, let him 'fight', but don't have him fight with a lightsaber.

I guess the whole thing felt phoned in to me. Like Lucas already wrote Return of the Jedi and had to find a stop gap, and tried to make it significant with a nonsensical plot twist.
How can it be a stop-gap when the entire movie is the Rebels getting curbstomped? The point is that it puts the heroes on the back foot so that their victory at the end of Jedi is more satisfying (ie Act 2 of everything ever with a standard 3 act structure).

Out of the 6 released films only two of them are actually worth a damn. The franchise doesn't exactly have a stellar track record.

Going to 2nd this but I'd say 3. Given that said 3 came out so long again (most of the people in this thread probably weren't even alive) its hard to claim this series has critical acclaim anymore. Most of the merchandise is meh/cash-ins and a majority of the added lore (which ironically got all tossed out) was sub-par too save the exception of the Dark Forces rising saga by Timothy Zahn. The bar is pretty damn low for episode 7.

Also some more:

- The original Star Wars scripts fucking sucked. Seriously, read them. They're basically full of random names and terms that make no sense and full of political stuff. George wanted to make the prequels with his original inception of the series but couldn't at the time.
- I don't mind the prequel era fights in terms of how fast they were, but all good fights have to have a good story behind him and the prequels did not achieve this making the fights feel stupid.
- I'm not all hyped for Episode VII.

I hate that they made Darth a sith title in the prequels. I always thought it was just Vader's first name, especially how Obi Wan called him just Darth a couple times.

I was under the impression all the other material did that long before the prequels had a chance to do that... I'm totally not sure though.

i'm fine with the prequels. i mean they certainly had their problems but i felt everything connected pretty brilliantly in the end. and RotS is easily one of the best movies, better than RotJ at least

also i think it's underappreciated how much it expanded the mythos

It looks goofy. For an amazing force master, him jumping around sword fighting and putting so much effort in fighting enemies while his enemies don't is just odd.
I guess. I agree it looks a little goofy but he's also like 2 feet tall so it should look goofy.

The prequels actually had an interesting story going on, but Lucas did a poor job telling it.
Midi-chlorians are fine.
There was absolutely nothing exciting about the EP VII teaser.
KotOR's plot twist was not as clever and/or shocking as people say.
OT had much better lightsaber fights not because the ones in the prequels had no emotion, which is true, but mainly becuse they actually resembled fencing and a proper sword fight rather than something straight out of Cirque du Soleil.
Hayden Christensen did the best he could with poor direction, lack of experience and terrible dialogue. Natalie Portman was a lot worse.

It annoys the hell out of me when people have issues with the movies that make sense to the story. For example, "Han shot first". He's a smuggler, not a cold blooded murderer. He looks like a bigger badass killing Greedo, but it does not fit his character at all. Nowhere else in the films does he even appear to show that much disrespect towards life.

Also those red letter media reviews play off of negative fan emotions rather than make any logical points. I have my own issues with the prequels (mostly aimed at EP. 2), but some of the complaints can be applied to the OT as well.

Return of the Jedi is not all that good aside from the Luke/Vader/Emperor stuff, and nobody should have been surprised by what The Phantom Menace was if they'd looked at RotJ honestly.

The Special Edition music at the end of RotJ is infinitely superior to Yub Nub, which was always awful.

Boba Fett is one of the dumbest popular characters in all of fiction, and I don't know if any other character in history has coasted so far purely on the merit of a cool costume design. Also he's 100% dead until an actual movie says otherwise.

The Phantom Menace, while a disappointment as the first Star Wars movie in 16 years, has actually aged pretty well and is a decent little space fantasy adventure romp if you divorce it from the massive expectations and Jake Lloyd's performance.

The "another" Yoda spoke of in ESB should have been Han, and the implication that Han is Force sensitive is constantly in play during ANH and ESB. It is incredibly obvious that Leia was never intended to be Luke's sister, and while Han being a potential Jedi (unrelated to Luke and Anakin) would have been a stretch, it wouldn't have been quite so much of one.

While I don't like Jar Jar, he's no more annoying than Threepio.

I guess. I agree it looks a little goofy but he's also like 2 feet tall so it should look goofy.

Him fighting with a lightsaber is the main problem. For a character that was built up to be one of the most powerful Jedi ever and to then have him hopping around swinging around a mini lightsaber is downright offensive.

Watch the Anakin/Padmé stuff on a loop and get back to me

Even though it's not the best Star Wars film, and it's full of prequel issues, Revenge of the Sith actually has the greatest level of drama in any Star Wars film.

Nothing about the Luke/Vader conflict is as emotionally wrenching as the fall of Anakin and the death of all the Jedi, even if there are issues with how we arrive at that point.
