"Up All Night" A new sitcom on NBC, Wednesdays @ 8pm

Just watched this yesterday and man it wasn't that great. I really wanted to like this show, but it's not really doing it for me (especially Maya's character). I don't think I've ever seen a sitcom with a baby go over well and I was hoping someone finally figured out how to make it work. Also given the subject it seems like they can only do so much with it. I'll keep watching for a while but I wouldn't be surprised if this gets canceled :/

You mean Running Wilde? I think that would have found its legs eventually.

I had high hopes for this when I saw a very brief clip about them not cussing in front of the baby. I laughed quite a bit at that scene and decided not to watch anymore until it aired. Now that it aired, I'm kinda mixed on it.

I definitely laughed at parts, but it wasn't funny throughout like I had hoped. What was nice was a lot of things in there certainly hit home as having experienced some of it now that we have a new baby of our own. So both of us could definitely relate to the show.

What really surprised me though was at what point they decided to start the show. I was really hoping it would start shortly after birth and season 1 would be pretty much year 1 of the baby. They decided to start a couple months afterward which IMO leaves out some of the funny stuff they could have played with being new parents. Seems like a missed opportunity to me to simply jump in a few months later.

Raising Hope is great. The dad is one of my current favorite tv characters. Excited for season 2!

Thought it was pretty bad. Some of the actual material was okay (like hanging out with a similar stay-at-home dad via Xbox Live) but it just came off so flat. Not a fan of Maya Rudolph, either. I also can't imagine what they're going to do on this show going forward with such bland characters. Just variations on the "we're new parents and it's so hard and different!" theme? Ugh.

Running Wilde actually lost what little legs it had partway through the season up until the last episode when it was kinda alright again. I was amazed that the show became increasingly more tedious to watch

He's happily married to Amy Poehler and they're a fucking awesome duo, for what it's worth.
There needs to be a show thats called "Will and Amy at Dinner" and its just Will and Amy talking over dinner for half an hour every week.
It'd be the funniest thing on television.

That wasn't a very funny episode. Maybe it's because I don't know how to relate. It was too slapstick for me and lacked subtle and smart jokes. Will give it a few more goes simply because of the cast.

I laughed quite a bit at the first episode, but that is probably skewed due to the fact I've got a five week old daughter. Truthfully, I enjoyed it but can't see how it'll evolve or continue forward. I'll give a couple more episodes a try but this really does feel like a doomed series from the start.

Watched on Hulu.

Absolutely terrible. Pure garbage.

Bailed out at minute 20 and was so desperate for any lols I decided to watch one of the episodes of running wilde I had missed, the jack's back episode.

Wasn't amazing, but "a casino fight, aha!" was more funny than the entire 20 minutes I wasted on up all night.

Will needs to do a show co-starring Peter Serafinowicz again.

Just add in some good writers because the two of them could hold a sitcom together.

Tonight's ep was a lot better. They're still not sure exactly what to do with Maya Rudolph's character.

Really?

Though I thought a lot of her stuff in the pilot was better than most. I forgot it's an 8pm show now.

Well, mostly when they're at the TV studio. Outside of that she works fine.

Surprisingly hilarious episode. This definitely has the potential to be a new TV show.

Also, Jorma Taccone in the next episode. Hurray. I hope it does well in its new timeslot. It started to bleed viewers at the end of it half hour last time, so hopefully it stays above a 3.

Liked that this episode handled hipster culture gracefully. Actually mentioned a pretty relevant band without being too in-your-face, the neighbors weren't ridiculous at all. Episode was funny in every part involving Reagan and Chris.
Still so confused as to what the point of Ava is though. Her story doesn't fit with the Brinkley's at all. She's just there acting out the same one joke over and over. I love Maya Rudolph, but she needs to be given some more meat.

Tired story tonight, but good nonetheless. Forte and Jorma were both funny. Applegate and Arnett still showing off some great chemistry.
But I still hate the Ava character.

Haven't seen tonights yet, but I loved the first two.

The shot with both of them sitting on their computers is my wife and myself. We are a couple weeks away from having our first kid, so this show is hitting all the right notes.

But the Macbooks man...I have the Pro, she has the white unibody...and we sit on the couch all the time on our own computers.

Classic.

Sorry. Have to disagree. After not being impressed with the pilot, I thought I'd give the show another shot tonight, and was left unimpressed again. I still think Arnett and Applegate have little chemistry and the story/plotlines are cliche and boring. I doubt I'll turn this show on again unless there is absolutely nothing else on. And Netflix isn't working.

They need to do more with Ava at work. Plus populate her work more with ridiculous characters, ala Pawnee Town Hall. Her and Reagan pulling the electric cables off was hilarious.

Show is growing on me for sure.

EDIT: Also, as long as this doesn't tank tonight (which it probably shouldn't given its ratings + repeat numbers), I expect it'll get a back 9 tomorrow.

Really liked Forte tonight. Will Arnett is the absolute best at saying a line that sounds sarcastic, but he's completely serious.

His "Are you kidding me with this Spanish? How awesome is he!"

Amazing.

Damn it, stole my post.

Come back Rhonda Shear!

She said a while back (via a facebook post) that she's trying to bring the show back as a web series or something.

The bits with Will Forte were gold.

This show is pretty good. Not great, pretty good. Considering that all the other new shows range from mediocre (New Girl) to downright terrible (Whitney), I'll take pretty good :)

I'm actually really liking this show. I like the parts with the couple a lot more than the Ava parts. They seem too different of styles, but I like the show in general a lot. The latest episode with Will Forte and Jorma seemed to have a lot more comedy in it. Pretty funny

Yeah this episode was a step up from the two that preceded it.

What worked here was giving Chris and Ava semi-interesting separate storylines and having Reagan float between. In the last two episodes it was very Chris & Reagan / Ava with some very minor/weak crossover that didn't go anywhere with the characters.

I'm totally digging the show so far. It's certainly not perfect but it seems to be finding its rhythm as it goes along and I'm sure it'll develop into something great. And while Ava is generally intrusive to the flow of the show, I find her/Rudolph hilarious so I don't quite curr.

cancelled soon. will arnett is missing the mark as the comedic lead in 2 for 2.
Nope it won't be, ratings are pretty good. And personally, I think that's because Arnett didn't miss the mark with Chris in this show like he did with Steve in Running Wilde. In that he was pretty weird, not relatable, and not funny enough. Here he's more understated making his jokes funnier and he appeals to a much larger group of people.

Jerry and Terri are great. Just little bursts of them are hilarious.

Fuck, the sound is off by a hair on the LA feed. So annoying.

He's a lot more... normal.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
How has no one mentioned the Married with Children Kelly throwback from last weeks episode?

I want to like this show badly, but so far I am not feeling it.

By the way, were these early episodes filmed while Maya Rudolph was still pregnant?

Liked tonight's episode more than the other so far. Although - for a show about raising a baby there was very little baby in it. Lots of wine drinking and buying vans, but only like 1 scene with Amy.

But at least they are doing the things without the child when the child would be asleep unlike a ton of shows that just forget the baby exists during the day it seems.

Wasn't feeling this episode as much. Agree with the other poster that Reagan talking to strangers while in her BMW was the best part.

Still think anything Maya touches just brings down the show. I like the actress too, but the writing's not there with her character.

Also GAF doesn't really watch this show huh? :/

Have to agree on the Ava character. It's almost painful watching any scene with her in it. Other than that, show is decent.
